Welcome
if you're here you are most likely here to see what this game is about and what it can offer you. now let's begin with the basics.

- Making a Character

When you decide to make your first character you're allowed to customize them to your liking, you can change their colors, clothing and gender but this doesn't effect anything other than visual appeal so take as long as you like

- Creating a World
When you are done with your character press on to create a world, you can choose between Small, Medium, or Large. I personally prefer to stick with small since it's much easier to locate everything.

- Choosing a World Evil
Now this isn't all that much important but it depends if you want to have gigantic death pits or a much easier to traverse path (im joking) Corruption was originally the default world evil and could never be changed until they added Crimson, which behaves differently than Corruption. Corruption likes to have numerous Pits and is usually dangerous to travel in without proper equipment, and Crimson is mostly flat with cave mouths leading into a giant central hub with split off paths. each World Evil contains a boss unique to it, along with some unique drops and enemies.

In the Corruption you can fight the Eater of Worlds, a gigantic worm

Or you can choose to fight the Brain of Cthulu, a giant brain

- What to do immediately on your first arrival
From the moment you set foot in your world, you should spawn near a bunch of trees, chop them down for wood so you can begin making a home for you and your guide, this will ensure that you are safe before nighttime.

Remember a house must be at least tall enough and wide enough for the guide to move in or any npc for that matter, and must include a table and a chair and some torches. (torches you can gain from killing slimes)

- When nighttime comes
Take the time to collect yourself and your thoughts and plan out what you'll do tomorrow, you can either mine, collect supplies, build more of your town, or just explore the world to see what's there.
(quick tip, if you see snow, then the jungle is to the opposite side of which you found it on, and if you find the jungle, then the dungeon is on the opposite side of which you found it on also)

- How to Increase HP and Mana
Somewhere randomly below the surface lie Heart Crystals which turn into Life Crystals upon Breaking them, it's capable of giving you 20 additional HP, using 15 of them grants you 400 HP the max amount of HP before Hardmode.
(when you have obtained the proper gear, search the jungle for them, the wide open space makes it easier to find)

Randomly at night shooting stars will fall down onto your world, allowing you to pick them up, in order to make a Mana Crystal you need to have at least 3 stars, and then craft it by hand. you'll need 9 Mana Crystals for a max Mana of 200

Classes
Terraria has 5 Different types of Classes, they are as listed below

- Melee
- Magic
- Ranged
- Summoner
- Throwing

4 of the 5 classes are viable for hardmode, but if you're just starting out, use whatever you can to make it a lot more easier on yourself, being strictly one class is really tough in the beginning and I wouldn't reccomend it.

Melee is pretty straight forward, mage uses mana in order to attack, summoner also uses mana to summon minions which stay until death, ranged and throwing are also pretty straight forward.
World Evil
Depending on which World Evil you've chosen you can read the corresponding one.

note: you can only choose a world evil once you've gotten to hardmode.

Corruption: The corruption can be spotted by the purple grass and the grey trees it inhabits, you can also tell when the sky turns noticably dark, it's best to stay away from building your town near this area. Aside from having a boss unique to it, in order to summon the boss for this biome you need to smash 3 Shadow Orbs hidden down in the underground corruption which you can easily enter with some rope, But you're gonna need bombs or Dynamite to blow up the paths to the Orbs, seeing as any obtainable pickaxe except the one from the boss can't break ebonstone, you'll also need a hammer to smash the orbs which just requires any workbench. upon smashing them you'll gain unique loot which can range from weapons or accessories. but be wary, breaking three of them will summon the boss effectively making you lose a chance to fight the boss in the first place.

Crimson: The crimson is the same case except it's red grass and grey trees as well, it also makes the sky turn dark as well. again stay away from this as much as you can. unlike the corruption there are cave mouths leading into a larger cave which eventually leads into a gigantic room with corridors leading to hearts (similar to shadow orbs) and upon breaking them you'll recieve unique loot, and again breaking 3 will summon the boss so be careful.

Both bosses are relatively easy, and you can fight off the Corruption and Crimson with a particular hardmode item. but this is the problem, as you progress into hardmode your world evil and a new biome will literally 'infect' your world. the corruption or crimson will spread at a rapid rate, and the hollow will surge through your world as well, but by the time you reach hardmode you'll learn to understand all of that as well.

Preventing Spread: As you may already know, your world evil can spread over specific blocks, this includes.. Dirt, Sand, Ice, Stone are some common examples. If you want to stop it from spreading you'll have to obtain the Dryad which is an NPC you can obtain after defeating 1 of 4 major bosses.

She can sell you Sunflowers and Purification Powder (which blows mind you) Purification is a pathetically short ranged consumeable that throws a few sparkles in front of you which cleanses any world evil that gets touched by it, you can have a 999 stack but cleansing your world of corruption completely.. is legitmately impossible considering it's short range cant reach blocks deep inside walls, until you get the world evil's corresponding pickaxe then it is possible it would take an enourmously long amount of time and it isnt really worth it. Sunflowers on the other hand are unique and are not only cheap but extremely useful. There needs to not be any backwall but you should be placing them on the surface near world evil it will prevent it from spreading onto already purified grass.
Ores & Tools
As you first start out the game you should notice that you start out with a Copper Shortsword, a Copper Pickaxe and a Copper Axe. Note that all 3 of these can start with either good prefixes or bad prefixes. What's a pre-fix you might be asking? Well a Pre-fix is a modifier of sorts that can either add bonuses or give you a disadvantage.

Now you're probably thinking that you'll want some better gear soon and you're right, you do and as soon as possible as well. When you first create a world you can have 1 of 2 types of ore for 4 ores this would include

Copper or Tin
Silver or Tungsten
Lead or Iron
Gold or Platinum
Demonite or Crimtane (World Evil Ores, Requires Corresponding-Boss Material to craft Tools & Armor)

Meteorite can be obtained from Meteors which fall after breaking a Shadow Orb or Crimson Heart. (stepping on it will burn you)

Obsidian is created after dumping water onto lava, or from guiding water from underground caverns into hell. (susceptible to lava)

Hellstone can only be found in the Underworld, usually underneath ash blocks. (Mining it spawns lava so be careful)

You're going to want to progressively get better gear, as certain things cannot be mined with lower tier gear. You need to have a Demonite or Crimtane Pickaxe in order to Mine Obsidian and Hellstone.

Obtainable NPC's
There are a Total of 16 Unlockable NPC's before Hardmode, This Includes...

Guide: Gives Tips and Offers a crafting 'guide'

Merchant: After obtaining 50 Silver, or if all players on a server accumulate 50 silver then he'll spawn, selling some useful things

Nurse: After gaining more than 100 HP, the Nurse will move in healing and ridding of debuffs, for cash

Demolitionist: Bomb guy, sells bombs, badda bing badda boom. (have a bomb in your inventory and a open room for him to move into)

Dye Trader: Collect any sort of Dye Material, Such as the Red Husk or Blueberries

Dryad: Defeat any of the 4 main bosses (Eye of Cthulu, Eater of Worlds, Skeletron, Brain of Cthlulu)

Witch Doctor: After defeating the Queen Bee, he will move in, allowing you to have a new brewing station

Goblin Tinkerer: After defeating a Goblin Army, the tinkerer has a chance to spawn randomly underground or even in the dungeon, allowing you to combine certain items for added effects

Mechanic: Found in the Dungeon randomly after defeating Skeletron

Party Girl: after 13 NPC's are in your home she will have a 1/40 chance to spawn

Traveling Merchant: Appears randomly near your household, upon each visit he will sell a random set of items, selling more unique items when you're in hardmode

Building an Arena
welcome to the section on Arena's, it's a very straightfoward concept that i wont spend too much time on, but i'll provide some basic information and some tips.

here's a basic arena

well i suppose we should turn the lights on

there we go

now you should see 3 different types of light sources on the left of this screenshot. each providing a unique buff.

This is a Heart Lantern, when in it's vicinity, you'll gain a slight Health Regeneration buff.

(Created using a Heart Crystal, and some chains)

A Star in a Bottle, provides a slightly faster Mana Regeneration buff.

(Created using Stars and a bottle)

Lastly, these are campfires, they also provide a Health Regeneration buff, which can stack with the Heart Lantern's unique buff. (you can also cook marshmallows over these!)

(Created using wood and torches)

(The range on the campfires is a 99-tile by 87-tile rectangular region centered on the campfire)

A basic arena can consist of just campfires if you'd like, they should be a few levels, and should have plenty of room so that there's enough room to dodge oncoming attacks. You can also use a grappling hook to get to and fro on these platforms.

I'd suggest making a 25 block wide platform base, and then continously go up as much as you wish.

If you want even more bang for your buck, you can create a pool of honey below the platforms to drop into really quickly, this will also provide a unique health regen buff that will stack with the other two. (You can use your grappling hook to get out of this faster!)

I should also state that standing still does allow you to regenerate health faster also, you can also stack this with a Regeneration Band, and Crimson Armor.

I should also mention that you probably wouldn't want walls on t he sides of the platforms, because they can block your way and would prevent you from being able to drop off the side and be able to just hook to a platform below really quickly to avoid an attack.

Bosses
As you've already figured out there's bosses in this game which are the means to progression in your game, Some can just flat out spawn, and others you may to do something to activate them. Here are all the 7 Bosses you can Fight before Hardmode

Core Bosses

Eye of Cthulu

This is the Eye of Cthulu, it has 2,800 HP and it should be one of the first bosses you encounter. If you have more than 200 HP it will have a 1/3 chance to spawn each night or alternatively, you must have 3 NPC's and over 10 Defense When Cthulu's HP reaches 1,400 it will transform into it's 2nd phase, which will charge at you occasionally. You can summon the Eye of Cthulu with the Suspicious Looking Eye
HP: 2,800

Eater of Worlds

The Eater of Worlds is a Gigantic worm that rests in the Corruption ''The Eater of Worlds is not a single target, but a string of 50 segments (1 head, 48 body, 1 tail) with individual life counters. When any inner segment is destroyed, it splits into multiple smaller worms, each with their own head and tail. Each section of the Eater must be killed in order to defeat the entire boss.'' -Terraria Gamepedia
That's right you have to kill all segments in order for it count as a kill, but this is realitively easy if you have grenades and a platform high above the surface. You can summon the Eater of Worlds with the Worm Food
HP: 7,485

Brain of Cthulu

Now if you've got Crimson in your world, this is who you're going to have to face, The Brain of Cthulu also has 2 phases, in the beginning phase you'll have to destroy multiple Creepers in order to open up the brain to actually begin hurting it, during phase 2 the brain will teleport in front of the player or near him or her constantly, but it will always be vunerable to damage during this so attack it while it's vunerable. You can summon the Brain of Cthulu with the Bloody Spine
HP: 1,000

Skeletron

If you happen to stumble across the dungeon, you might notice a person standing around near the entrance, this is the boss itself, at night you will be able to curse him which summons him. It's best to run to your arena by the time you curse him. Skeletron will attempt to attack you with his hands and then attack with his head, he will spin for a few seconds towards the player, but during this he has 0 Defense. You can destroy his arms making the fight a tad more easier but it wont kill him, you'll need to destroy his head if you want to slay him. Defeating him will allow the Clothier NPC to move in. You can summon Skeletron with the Clother Voodoo Doll.
HP: 4,400 (Head) 600 (Hands)

Wall of Flesh

Once you've gained the proper gear and built a long runway, added campfires and or heart lanterns and stars in bottles, then you're probably ready to fight the final boss before Hardmode. When summoned the Wall will sweep all of Hell until it reaches the end, it will continue to sweep hell even after the player is killed, giving the player a chance to use a hellavator to get back down, if you fall behind the wall, it will grab you and drop you in front of it. Defeating the wall will begin Hardmode, in which I hope you were prepared for. You can summon the Wall of Flesh using a Guide Voodoo Doll which drops from Voodoo Demons in Hell (they can be seen carrying it) drop it into lava to summon it.

Queen Bee

Findable in Bee Hives in the Jungle, upon smashing the Larva in the Hive, you will summon her, she will constantly charge left and right, usually off-screen and then come back to spawn some minions, be sure to have some kind of melee weapon prepared for that, she will also stand still during it so having a weapon with piercing helps. You can summon the Queen Bee with the Abeemination
HP: 3,400

King Slime

If it happens to be raining slime and you just so happen to kill more than 150 during it, then near the end the King Slime will spawn, it doesn't offer any kind of advancements in your quest but it does give some unique drops that may be useful. The boss is really easy to kill, just use terrarain to your advantage but if the King Slime doesn't attack you for an extended period of time it will just teleport to you instead so be wary of that. You can Summon the King Slime with the Slime Crown
HP: 2,000

The Goblin Army
It's as simple as it sounds, it's an army of goblins.

This is what you'll need in order for them to spawn in

- It must be daytime.
- At least one Shadow Orb or Crimson Heart must have been destroyed.
- At least one player must have 200 health or more. (If this is not met the Goblin Battle Standard will not work)
- There must be no Goblin Invasion already in progress.

Once all of this is met, you will have a 1/3 chance everyday to have a Goblin Army spawn.

After this first encounter it will be set to a 1/30 chance everyday and when you get into hardmore,
it'll be a 1/60 chance instead.

I should also mention that The size of the army is based on the number of players currently in the world, and their health capacity.

If you're playing alone, there will be 120 base goblins
(Singleplayer)
There will be an additional 40 goblins for every player that has a maximum health of 200 or more.
(Multiplayer)

For example if you're playing with 2 people, you'll both face 160 Goblins

The Goblin Army consists of 6 total mobs, each with varying spawn chances and the sort, the information below provides some basic info.

Goblin Peon | 60 HP, 12 Damage, 4 Defense, (Contact)

Goblin Warrior | 110 HP, 25 Damage, 12 Defense, (Contact)

Goblin Thief | 80 HP, 20 Damage, 6 Defense, (Contact)

Goblin Sorcerer | 40 HP, 20 Damage, 2 Defense, (Ranged)

Goblin Archer | 80 HP, 20-22 Damage, 6 Defense, (Ranged)

Goblin Summoner | 2000 HP, 80 Damage, 26 Defense, (Ranged), (Hardmode Only)

Notable Item Drops..

From all Goblins except the Goblin Summoner

Spiky Ball | 49.75% chance to drop, 1-5, with 15 throwing damage

Harpoon | 0.5% chance to drop, 25 Damage (Ranged), Best Modifier is Godly

Drops only from the Goblin Summoner

Shadowflame Bow | 16.7% chance to drop, 47 Damage (Ranged), Best Modifier is Unreal

Shadowflame Knife | 16.7% chance to drop, 38 damage (Melee), Best Modifier is Godly

Shadowflame Hex Doll | 16.7% chance to drop, 40 Damage (Magic), Best Modifier is Mythical

If you ever want to fight them again you'll need 10 tattered cloths and 5 wood to make a Goblin Battle Standard

(Goblin Scout)
The Tattered Cloth is a crafting material dropped by Goblin Scouts, which can be found at the edges of your world.

However you must have the following..

It must be daytime.
At least one Shadow Orb or Crimson Heart must have been destroyed.
At least one player must have 200 health or more. (If this is not met the Goblin Battle Standard will not work)
There must be no Goblin Invasion already in progress.

Upon their defeat you'll gain the Goblin Punter Achievement.

Armor Bonuses and Classes
alright im going to keep this breif but there are armor sets in this game, if that wasn't obvious enough

at early game there are only a few sets that cater towards certain classes, for example, gem robes will be more magic based and probably the only way to be magic based before hardmode

When any full set of armor is equipped you will gain a set bonus, some having special abilities.

although i would say not to limit yourself to any particular set, since being more open to all weapons, leaves you with more versatility rather than being stuck using 1 certain type of weapon, which might need ammo or depend on mana, where as if you have all 3, you can switch between at any given time.

Melee is basically the strongest in terms of taking contact damage (hah), but they can be pretty strong, if given the right chance, they can dish out the pain, but unfortunately, you're prone to taking a lot of pot shots

Mage is pretty straightfoward, you use Mana for all of your attacks, most being range related, some weapons from this class can be pretty broken if you have the knowledge to use them right, definitely one of the more advanced classes with how you have to manage dodging and mana consumption

Rangers are also pretty straightforward, they're gun people, they shoot numerous weapons, which are also pretty easily obtainable, along with ammo ALSO being pretty easy to obtain, they're pretty safe to newcomers and can provide a safe journey. (until near end-game) a beginner wouldn't be off bad picking this as their primary class

then there's Summoners, honestly they dont do much besides offer some extra damage and have a lot of minions, but it isn't really that strong unless you dedicate nearly all of your accessories into being able to dish more damage which is unfortunate, then again their weapons are extremely rare in early game so it's more of a HM class rather than a PHM class

but if you generally want an easier time, then don't limit yourself to any
I guess this is where we say goodbye
thanks for reading
