Introduction
This guide will outline simple steps for you to follow to help you maximize your profits when trading with other players on Warframe, and to take full advantage of the game's lack of any official auction house or any other means to set global prices.
Things to know before getting into price gouging
Warframe has a huge amount of players but it has no official auction house. So there is always someone willing to pay, and the lack of an auction house is pretty much a thumbs up from Digital Extremes (DE) to everyone to do some serious price gouging! There are some obnoxious player-made websites that try to act as auction houses to undermine your profit margins, but luckily, because they are made by players and anyone can post any item on them at any price without any consequences, they are not very reliable. You could even use this to your advantage by posting a bunch of fake orders with your buddies!
Step 1: Look for people who do not appear to be knowledgeable
This is important as many people who use those annoying third party websites are usually not the easiest to gouge. Telltale signs to look for are low mastery rank and bad English. How nice of DE to put a good indicator of knowledge like the mastery rank into the game for you to take full advantage of!
Step 2: Always ask for more than the item is actually worth
For example, if the item is "worth" 250 platinum, ask for at least 350 platinum or more. This way sometimes people who do not know any better will just pay you the "extra," thus an easy profit for you! Remember; the one who asks is not stupid, but the one who pays is!
Step 3: Always sell the item for more that it is actually worth
As people very rarely are willing to pay you your asking price, you should write down or memorize the minimum price you are willing to sell your item for. This minimum price must always be more than it is actually "worth" on those pesky sites that work so hard to sabotage your profits. For example, for an item "worth" 250 platinum, the minimum price should be around 300 platinum.
Step 4: Never pay the asking price for any item
For example, if the seller wants 250 platinum for their item, you should only offer them at most 150 platinum, preferably less. This way you get to keep the maximum amount of your hard-earned platinum! When you do this people might call you with silly names such as "low-baller" and the sort but remember, it's only the profits that matter, not their opinion!
I can't hold all this platinum!
At this point if you have followed the steps closely you should have huge amounts of platinum, most likely so much that you do not even know what to do with all of it. One good way to use it is to buy stuff for cheap and later sell it for a profit. What a great way to repeat these steps for higher and higher profits! Another good way to spend your legitimately earned platinum is to spend it on some rare goods such as vaulted items, or maybe you could even build a swimming pool full of platinum!
