Instructions
NOTE: results may vary from hardware to hardware, it is not guaranteed to work for everyone.

Tested resolution: 2560x1440
PC specification
  • i7 6700
  • GTX 980Ti in 2-way SLI. (Driver version 384.76 WHQL)
  • 32GB DDR4 3000MHz RAM
  • Windows 10 Pro, version 1703

Let's get started.

1. After installing Stalingrad, start the game and go to Options > Settings > Video and set the resolution to '640x480x32' apply & exit the game.

2. Go to game directory: by default it is located in C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Stalingrad, you can also do it from your game library by right clicking on 'Stalingrad > Properties > Local Files > Browse Local Files...'.

3. From the game directory backup the file called 'config.cfg'.

4. Open the file 'config.cfg' with a text editor, I recommend using 'Notepad++', you can also open it with default Windows Notepad.

5. In the file, hit 'ctrl+f' and search for 640x480.

6. Now change the value as the resolution you want to play, i.e., 1920x1080, 2560x1440, etc.

Note: do not change the other value 'Type="8"><Var>1024x768x32', as it will likely make the game crash.

7. Save & exit.

8. Right click on 'config.cfg' > Properties > set the file to 'Read-only'.

9. Launch the game & play.

Note: game menu will appear low resolution, but once the map is loaded the game should be running on high resolution or the resolution you've set in the 'config.cfg' file.

Here's an example of the game running at a glorious 2560x1440 resolution.

Good luck.

Good workaround, thanks!

If you're having trouble - make sure to actually start a mission etc. (the menu was still not HD for me).

can confirm - it doesn't work.
sad this is the only way to do it. maybe some specs do like this change and some don't.
edit: changing resolution within the "defconf.cfg" actually works fine.

Alt Tabbing, Clicking on it, it opens shortly, I hear sound than minimize, with a lot of trial and error, I got it one time to open op properly but then the right monitor had problems with other Programms open like Browser. DxWnd is a good call, iirc I had this programm in the past. il give it a try later

Haven't had that issue, it sounds stupid maybe but have you tried alt-tabbing and if it maximizes again? Perhaps try running the game windowed with DxWnd and see if it will solve the issue.

I have the Problem on Windows 10, that I can not run it. The game starts, but minimize itself. Any Idea?

I haven't seen this not working in many systems I've tried over the years. Make sure you are not missing anything.
