Commissar - LW2

Description
Fear me! But follow!

Requires Long War 2 and Primary Swords!

The COMMISSAR!

A title that strikes fear in the hearts of any guardsman, be they seasoned veterans or green recruits. These men make excellent officers and, while their own offensive capabilities are limited, inspire their men to greater heights.

Entering battles with only a sword and pistol, they prefer to stand behind their men and point out critical targets or utilize support grenades and their booming voice to improve squad effectiveness. Some Commissars will lead their men from the front, killing xeno and heretic with blade and pistol at CLOSE RANGE. While impressive, these bold men rarely live long lives.

In actual gameplay, these guys will mostly be kept at mid to long ranges from enemies. They have squadsight, so they don't personally have to see enemies to holotarget them and their weapons simply don't pack much point until much later. Ideally you'll train them in the Officer school and the AWC, as they start with Quick Study, reducing the time it takes for them to train. Despite low damage, they do have decent aim and high will, making "Lead by example" an excellent pick up.

If you prefer having your Commissars fight, going into the "Strength" branch is the ideal. Combat Fitness gives mobility and some extra health while Swordmaster and Commissar's Strength give damage so you can bring the pain. Commissar's Strength also gives Serial. While Serial does take 2 actions to activate, it functions almost identically to reaper, but the penalties to damage should only apply once. Activate it when it's time to finish off a large number of weakened foes!

If focused on the "Valor" branch and given 2-3 officer and awc perks, they make excellent haven leaders, since they act as force multipliers with the rebels and, as rebels are replacable, Commissars can shoot them without worries to give huge buffs. Just remember, you can't shoot anyone without a pistol!

Weapons: Sword, Holotargeter (Highly recommended utility item: Pistol)

Custom Perks: Swordmaster - Deal 2 more damage with an extra 10% chance to hit when using swords

Hold The Line! - Give your allies a defensive bonus for 2 turns, granting nearby allies 10 defense and 50 dodge.

Hidden Creed - Grant all units concealment for 2 turns. During the turn the ability is used, allies may only take movement actions.

Inspire - Your mere presence inspires your men, granting them cumulative bonuses to aim, will, and dodge at a rate of 1 per turn, to a maximum of 10.

Death Before Dishonor - Shoot a panicked, unconcious, stunned, or disoriented ally, killing them and giving the rest of your squad +50 aim, 50 crit, 200 will, and 5 mobility.

Charge! - Give the command for your allies to charge, granting them 5 mobility, 20 aim, and 20 crit for 2 turns.

Commissar's Strength - Display near superhuman strength and agility as you massacre your enemies with your blade. Passively gain +2 sword damage and access to the ability Serial.

Support Munitions - Always prepared, you now carry additional free support grenades to save your idiotic men. +1 flashbang and smoke grenade.

The Perk Tree

Strength - Precision - Valor
Squaddie: Knife Fighter
LCPL: Combat Fitness - Rapid Targeting - Rapid Deployment
CPL: Cutthroat - HiDef Holo - Sting Grenades
SGT: Shadowstep - Independent Tracking - Dense Smoke
SSGT: Swordmaster - Vital Point Targeting - Support Munitions
TSGT: Coup De Grace - Multi Targeting - Hold the Line
GSGT: Whirlwind - Tradecraft - Charge!
MSGT: Commissar's Strength - Hidden Creed - Inspire

Credits: Long War 2, because half the perks come from there and this wouldn't work without it

Trooper Class Mod, because its "Spread out" ability was the foundation for "Charge!" and "Hold the Line!"

Rogue Class Mod, because Hidden Creed wouldn't exist without it and Inspire would've taken me much longer to implement.

Necromancer Class Mod, because I couldn't figure out how to kill my own soldiers without it.

Again, I obviously own nothing here. If anyone from above has a problem with this mod, contact me and I'll take it down. This was 5% for my own use and 95% FOR THE EMPEROR!

Recommendations: Mina's Guardsmen - Because it has the HAT!

Definitely a conflict

The final tier of skills, master sergeant, doesn't populate the icons for the skills. I'm not sure if it's a mod conflict or not but it's annoying to see the alert telling me i have to spend his last skill point when there is no skill icons to select

The imperial guard voice pack conflicts with this mod's custom skills. Just thought everyone should know.

Scouts definitely don't count, totally different model. They may still be space marines in a broader sense but if you have to pick 3 core typologies of "the space marine," they're never making the cut.
