Outdoors
1. Use your binoculars like crazy. As soon as you enter a new area. use it and scout the area out. it'll mark any enemies on your radar and let you keep track of them as a battle goes.

2. Hide in the grass. Enemies have a hard time finding you if you shoot them from the grass. I can consistently take out three or so enemies in a row with zero problems if I hide in the grass.

3. Use the Night Vision. It lets you see enemies' thermal outline when they're roaming around in the jungle. It can mean the difference between being killed or living in certain situations, so use it often.

4. Take the highest route whenever you can. This makes it harder for the AI to pinpoint where you are and gives you a better view of an area. High areas with grass are even better.

5. Stay as far away as possible. The further away you are, the harder it is for the AI to find you. Use scoped weapons like the G36, OICW and Sniper Rifle to make long ranged shooting easier.

6. Take out snipers first. They're usually on towers, and later on in the game, elevated areas. They can easily kill you if let them live. Some in later levels will have Rocket Launchers, so its even more important to take them out before the fighting starts getting heavy.

7. Listen for enemy footsteps. You can easily take out enemies trying to flank you if you listen for them walking around. If you hear them and think they're close, use either the binocs or night vision to pinpoint where they are.

8. Leaning is a good idea if you have adequate cover. use it to peek around corners in places like bases when you're in them and wiping out any survivors from your initial attack.

9. Keep the starting Pistol with you. it lets you move faster than every weapon except the Machete, but unlike the Machete, you can effectively use it against enemies just in case one of them surprises you.

10. At higher difficulties, go for headshots. Enemies are more resistant in harder difficulties, but a headshot will always take them down in one hit.

11. Burst fire is your friend. Going full auto at range makes it nearly impossible to hit enemies. Instead, fire two to three shots at a time. If you're using the tips I gave earlier, then the brief downtime between bursts shouldn't make you vulnerable at all.
Indoors tips
Indoors

1. Leaning is very, very useful. As soon as you enter a new hallway, lean and see what's down the hall.

2. Grenades are your best friend. The Frag and Flashbang grenades are very useful for softening up or killing enemies. Just toss one, then pop out and shoot as soon as it goes off.

3. Use rocks to lure enemies out. If an enemy is being a ♥♥♥♥ and just sitting there, toss a rock. It'll alert them and make them check the sound out.

4. The P90, Shotgun and M249 machine gun are your best friends in close quarters. The P90 and machine gun have a good enough rate of fire and damage per bullet to decimate enemies in seconds, while the Shotgun's good damage and ROF can tear up enemies in a hurry.

5. Use night vision to scout out an area. It allows you to easily see enemies and where they are without the bionoc's zoom effect.
Trigen tips
1. Stay away from them at all costs. They're extremely deadly when you're close to them, so do anything to put some distance between you and them. Even something as simple as going to another floor or closing a door on them can be a big help.

2. Don't try and take Trigens on if they're fighting enemy soldiers. Instead either cut though the soldiers while they're distracted. If you have to kill a Trigen, let the soldiers weaken the Trigen, then finish it off when the soldiers are dead.

3. Rapid fire weapons, like the assault rifles and P90, work best against Trigens. The Shotgun is also good, but is only recommended for when you're facing a Trigen indoors and you can't get far away from it.

4. You can dodge the rockets that the large Trigens shoot by either strafing or jumping over them.

5. Headshots aren't very effective against the large Trigens. Instead, aim for the body.

6. As soon as you enter the Archives level, some Trigens will have the ability to cloak. Use your night vision to easily find them.

Does Night Vision work for you when HDR rendering enabled? It just makes the guys grey.

Very great guide, however some steps are a little vague. You should be a little more specific in what kind of shrubbery you can use to hide from enemies. You constantly say “grass” can be used to hide from enemies but this is not true. You have to look out for dense bushes, only that will hide you from the enemy AI.

Very good advices on this guide. If anyone is struggling to finish this game in realism difficulty I am doing a playthrough no death run, here is the first part : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5qnSbI4_P4I

You need to change "leaning" to "laying" :-)

These are good tips! I will add this: if you use the binoculars and scroll in, then put the enemy dead center, then hit B and shoot, I can often hit the enemy even when I cannot see him at all. This allows me to clear an area from a long distance out, even with just the pistol.

don't forget that enemies can see you through tents which is annoying

Anyone know how to get across the lava rivers towards the end of Far Cry 1. I cannot seem to jump to the other side from the rock outcrop?

Nice guide. I plyaed this game in 2004 to 2007, several times through all difficulties. No i cant find my DVD so i bought a steam version and downgrade it to ver. 1.3 64 bit.

I learn that i bring with me the sniperrifle after i first get my hand on it. I drop it often inside were there are small rooms and pick it up before i leave the level. My weapons all the time (M4, AG36) OICW, P90 and sniper rifle and for a lot of maps the rocket launcher, espessially the last one were have blown up 3 scrambles masts, and i think the last 5 or 6. Often i pick up shotgun inside after dropping sniper and rocket L. When you set the nuke, you need explosives. When you defend her, you need grenadlauncher, rocket L and M249. That helped me get through the levels with a lot of soldiers with shields. And for best survivel i use cars to get around. You also can just drive to the point of the map youre supposed to go to an stop for nothing on the way.
