Intro: The power-ups
/|\ DO NOTE THIS GUIDE IS CREATED BY A RANDOM PLAYER, THIS IS ONLY HERE TO GIVE TIPS. DON'T HATE PLS /|\

Now before you start reading this part, please consider if you have already played the game and know how to get power-ups and "Sort of" know what they do, skip the intro part

First of all lets start by how to get a power up, sometimes a magical box appears out of thin air which can be moved by walking into it, the box explodes into a thousand pieces when a fireball touches is, and after that dropping a random power up.

Second, some general tips with the box: It's risky to try and move the box towards fireballs, because a player might move the box out of the way and letting the fireball hit you in the process. So try to leave a box up to chance to see if it breaks. And don't camp around it, it usually results in death. Once the box has been broken don't instantly rush for the power up, because it might work against your favor.

Now let us get to the power-ups of the game
Power Ups:

01- Speed Up
02- Shot Destroyer
03- One Orb Only
04- Orb Blocker
05- Color Shuffle
06- Teleport
07- Orb Magnet
08- Confusion
09- Upside-Down Stage
10- Lightning Bolt
11- Free Shield
12- Shot Speed Up
13- Shot Speed Down
14- Shot pause
Situations
Each power-up affects the game in a different way, (ofcourse)

but let's get to 3 situations I sometimes use with certain power-ups

1. Most of the fireballs are yours
2. There is an even amount of fireballs from all players
3. Most of the fireballs are NOT yours (how did you let this happen?)

These are the 3 situations we shall use.

Also there are 15 stages.

and you bet your fluffy butt I will talk in detail about every single power up!
0. Getting power-ups, or prevent others from getting power-ups
Now when a power-up drops, you'd want to sometimes get it. Not always, but we will get to that when we talk about singular power-ups,

Alright, let's get to a situation where a power-up dropped

So you see a power-up, now the first thing you'd want to do is to try and go for it (if it's a powerup you need)
so let's get to the 3 situations

I will also use 3 Sub-situations only for this section

Situation 1- most of the fireballs are yours
-Sub 1: You are the closest, you don't have to shield to get it (most of the time)

-Sub 2: You are NOT the closest, Try to run towards it. and maybe shield to shock others who are
also going for it. But if it's a powerup another player wants, give up.

-Sub 3: You and the other playera are "around" the same distace away, It's best to shield so you
can block others, if another person breaks your shield and you have another orb, shield
again

Situation 2- There's an even amount of fireballs
-Sub 1: You are the closest, look around you if there's an enemy fireball near you shield otherwise
don't, it will be a waste

-Sub 2: You are NOT the closest, it might not be a good idea to go for it, but it's kinda the same
as: Situation.1- Sub.2

-Sub 3: You and the other players are "around" the same distace away, Shield. just shield and rush
for it

Situation 3- Most of the fireballs are NOT yours
-Sub 1: You are the closest, Shield and go for it

-Sub 2: You are NOT the closest, just pray to your lord and saviour it's not a power up that works
against your favor, shielding is advised.

-Sub 3: You and the other players are "around" the same distace away, shield and rush, and don't
forget to keep mashing the shield button

Alright so a powerup dropped that if picked up will work greatly against your favour. Here's how to respond to those situations:

-Sub 1: You are the closest, Great the only thing you need to do is to position yourself correct so
you can shoot down all players who try and get it, in the worst case scenario the powerup
will still be picked up, but I'll get to how to respond to it when I talk about the indvidual
power-ups. but atleast all the players have the effect (if it effects the arena).

-Sub 2: Shield, there is nothing you can do otherwise.

-Sub 3: Shield to get to it asap, and shoot fireballs at the players who come near.
1. Speed Up

The Speed Up item does what the name says (as nearly all items do)

It speeds you up to a certain exted, BUT DO NOTE:
- This item can greatly work against your favor because most of the time it leads to certain death.

NEVER GO FOR THIS ITEM.

Unless you want to annoy other players with constantly shielding and shocking,
because if you pick this up shield as soon as possible and don't do anything else

Now you have picked it up (why did you do it?)
-Situation 1, Most of the fireballs are your: Great, just be careful and watch your step

-Situation 2, Most of the fireballs are NOT yours; You're foxed... just shield and try to avoid everything... There is only little hope left.

on certain maps it sorta helps.
-Pawcific Ocean: it speeds up to near the regular walk speed, but this could throw you off real good

-Wolphone: this works when walking against the direction the music notes are going. but when
walking back, DON'T MOVE! shielding is highly adviced.

-Gailes: This item does the same thing as it sorta does on Wolphone, the only difference is that the
wind sometimes stops, and this will backfire hard.
2. Shot Destroyer

This items fires a laser beam in 2 straight lines from where it was picked up,
-One line goes vertical.
-The other line goes horizontal.

When a shot touches the beam (wich does not interact with the players) the fireball gets destroyed.

Alright the 3 situations on this because they are super important, especially with this one.
-Situation 1. Most of the fireballs are yours. Great, just try to do everything in your power to prevent
others from getting it

-Situation 2. There is an even amount of fireballs from all players, This is to consider,
If there are fireballs of players who are already out of the game go for it, otherwise it
might be a gamble with sometimes a bad outcome

-Situation 3, Most of the fireballs are NOT yours. Get this power-up, this could sometimes work in
your favor

Also, be a bit patient with picking this up, because if most of your fireballs are near they could get destroyed, but if there are opposing fireballs near, you're free to get it

Now when it comes to maps there is only 1 stage that this power-up has a small to no effect
-Flare House, The fire pillars do the same thing as the lazer beam, it destroys the fireballs.
3. One orb only

This is one of the most broken power-ups in the game,
For 3 fireballs and/or shields you only need 1 orb.

This power-up lasts for 3 shots or shields, so use it wisely

This power-up is really usefull, especially when you're kinda lacking behind when it comes to fireballs.

When it comes to the situations there isn't much to talk about.
Because if most fireballs are yours, you can just decide what you do with it, either get more fireballs or annoy other players by shield shocking them,

But if there are a balanced amount or most of them are not yours, you'd want to use this as a way to throw more fireballs into the arena.

Also when it comes to maps, there is nothing to talk about.
4. Orb blocker

The orb blocker power up does what the name says, it blocks all your opponents from orbs, this power-up is also used to get the "Cruel King achievement". it also prevents you from shielding or shooting fireballs

"In a 4-player round, all your foes were blocked by the Orb Blocker when they died" - Cruel King Achievement

Now when it comes down to wether or not picking up the orb blocker, always go for it. Even shield if needed, coming to think of it, always just shield when going for the power-ups (unless your super close to them...)

But when it gets picked up by your opponent, there is nothing much you can do, since you can't use anything... it's best to just practice dodging fireballs to be honest.

There is also nothing much to talk about when it comes down to maps.
5. Color shuffle

The color shuffle does what the name suggets, all the fireballs that are on the field get shuffled.
Now the colors only shuffle to players that are alive, for instance:
If there is a three player match, between: Gilles, Roma, Anders. and there are 5 fireballs of each, but Roma gets hit by a fireball. making it so that Gilles and Anders are only alive. if the 'Color shuffle' gets picked up, the color shall only become either Gray, or Red.

Also the power does not have a specific patern, it just randomizes the fireballs. so if you pick it up it might work in your favour, or just make it impossible for you to survive (speaking out of experience here...)

Now let's get to the situations

Situation 1- Most of the fireballs are yours; Do not... I repeat do not go for this power up!
This could work greatly against you.

Situation 2- The fireballs are balanced; It's a pretty big gamble, but it's a good idea to pick it up if
there are fireballs of players who are not in the game.

Situation 3- Most of the fireballs are not yours; Go for it, what bad could it do? It might just work in
your favour and completely turn the game around.

And ofcourse there are three possible outcomes (well there are more than that but three main ones)

Outcome 1- Most of the fireballs become yours; You're set, just watch out for other fireballs.

Outcome 2- It becomes balanced; just continue playing the game as you'd normally play.

Outcome 3- Most of the fireballs are no longer your collor; You're screwed.
6. Teleport

The teleport item once it's picked up by a player, it teleports them to a random location in the arena.
This could sometimes be helpfull but sometimes just completely fail. By that I mean that it teleports you 3 pixels away from your original location.

Now when it comes to situations or maps the only place I highly advise you to NOT pick it up, is in Wolphone. Because of the map's nature to have a moving conveyor.
There is a certain strategy in that map I like to use, is to shoot fireballs vertically, sometimes creating an ocean tide of gray fireballs (since I use Gilles most of the time).

It's sometimes helpfull to put you out of tight situations, and it does give you a small invincibility period to not get hit the moment you spawn back on the field. but prepare yourself to sometimes to act out quickly after spawning.
7. Orb Magnet
Not a ladies magnet, but an orb magnet.

The orb magnet does it says, it pulls orbs in a certain radius towards you for a few secconds
This is one of the few power-ups that could change the game in an instant.

When it comes down to situations there are only two things to look out for.

Situation 1- Most of the fireballs are yours; Just keep shooting more
Situation 2- Try to shield as much as possible, and if you have a shield with three orbs you want to try and get three more orbs, after that you want to shoot, then after that collect three orbs and shield again
8. Confusion

Confusion is the thing you really want to go for.

What does the Confusion Power-up do:
It swaps around the players controlls

UP becomes RIGHT
DOWN becomes LEFT
LEFT becomes DOWN
RIGHT becomes UP
(or it differs, this is just my observation)

Now if you got the power up, Great there is nothing you need to do,
BUT if someone else got the power-up, Here's what you need to do:

1. If most of the fireballs are yours:
-Great, just pay a bit of attention going across the field, it might be a good idea to shield, but not always-

2. if there's an even amount of yours and your opponents fireballs:
-First check your surroundings, if you're surrounded by most of your own fireballs go back to 1.
But if you are surrounded by a mix of fireballs, it's a really good idea to shield, moving is not advised-

3. If most of the fireballs are not yours:
-SOUND THE ALARMS, SHIELD AS SOON AS POSSIBLE, And... Don't... Move... at all... -

now when it comes to stages there isn't really much to say about what this is the best in, this really just depends on the amount of fireballs, but some stages are to consider:

- Moon Estate: Be carefull when you are the confused, it's always a good idea to shield here.

- Hound Airways: The same things apply as in Moon Estate.

- Wolphone, STOP MOVING AND SHIELD, even if things are in your favour.

- Gailes, if the wind blows SHIELD ASAP, but if it's quiet apply the rule of the 3 situations.

- Pawcific Ocean, Because shots move slow it differs: if there are around 10 shots, it might be a
good idea to shield but not always, if there are 50 shots SHIELD ASAP.
9. Upside down stage

Don't always go for this power-up,
Take the 3 Situations into consideration before getting this power-up.

What does this do:
This power-up flips the stage upside down, and inverts the controlls,

UP <-> DOWN
RIGHT <-> LEFT

Now let's get to when to get the power up and when not to

1. Most of the fireballs are yours
- Get the powerup.

2. There is an even amount of fireballs
- The choice here is hard, but it still might be a good idea to get it, and remember to shield.

3. Most of the fireballs are not yours
- Do not, and I repeat, Do not get this power up. This will give the others an advantage.

Now, so the someone grabbed the power-up, here is what to do in certain situations.
- You are not yet used to the controls: Stand still, and shield if a fireball is even remotely close to you.

-You're sort of used to the controls: move a little to avoid them, shielding is still advised.

- You're used to the controls: move around, but it's never a bad idea to shield.

Also when it comes to maps there are only a few you need to worry about

- Wolphone: Stop moving and shield, when you get to the non-moving section of the map then you
should try to avoid most fireballs

-Gailes: when the wind is blowing, stop moving and shield, even when the wind is no longer there, but
you can move if there is no wind

- Pawcific ocean: Don't mind the upside down, just pay attention to where you're moving, unless the
fireballs are moving at regular speed (for instance the game went on for long
enough, or someone got the shot speed up item) then moving is not advised and
shield asap

- Tails tiles: Just shield, that is all I can say
10. Lightning
Lighting, strike down your opponents.

Lightning does the same thing a shield does when it hits a player, it stuns them, It also breaks the shields of others.

When this power up drops you only need to look at a few sub situations

Sub 1- You are the closest to it; Be patient, wait for the right moment and pick it up, if a player is shielding, you need to wait maybe a little bit extra for the shield to run out

Sub 2- You are not the closest; Shield asap, and keep shielding, either: untill it is used, or it despawns.
11. Free Shield
It's a free shield, who doesn't like free shields?

This power-up gives the person who picked it up a free shield with the equivilant of 3 orbs
There is nothing much to say when it comes down to the situations. But, there are some things you need to keep in mind

When you have picked up the item, try to go for those who do not have orbs or who are shooting a fireball, since you can easily shock them. it's also best to stay around your fireballs so that if someone breaks your shield they'll get hit

But, when your opponent has picked up the free shield, try to counter it by shielding with one orb, this breaks his shield, now keep in mind; this also breaks your shield, so do it in a place where there are not many opposing fireballs.
12. Shot speed up
This power-up speeds up all the fireballs in the arena.
Now normally the fireballs in the game slowly speed up, but with the shot speed up it instantly speeds up to a certain point. I do not know how much they speed up, but I'd say they speed up by 50%

Now when it comes down to the situations, they could be critical.

Situation 1, Most of the fireballs are yours; Pick up this item as soon as you can, this gives you a bigger chance for the others to get hit, be sure to not get hit by other fireballs that are close.

Situation 2, The fireballs are balanced; Now this depends, if it's a two player match, go for it. BUT if there are three or four players, be very carefull if you or someone else picks it up. It's also best to stay a bit patient with picking it up, since this could either end in you getting hit, or others getting a fireball to the face.

Situation 3, most of the fireballs are NOT yours; Do not... I repeat... Do not go for this power-up, unless your opponent is around a few of your fireballs, then be very, very carefull with picking it up
13. Shot Speed Down
Shot speed down slows down all the shots by around 50% This is one of the few power-ups you'd want to grab even if most of the fireballs are yours.

You want to pick up this item because it slows down all the shots, this can give you quite a lot of breathing room to try and collect more orbs, for some reason many people start to get a bit reckless as soon as an shot slowdown has been picked up, so my tip is, stay aware of your surroundings like the fireballs are still at their regular speed.

14. Shot pause
This powerup stops all the fireballs for a few seconds.
When this powerup is picked up, listen very, very careful to the ticking that is heard in the background as many players get hit after they start going again. Also the fireballs are sped up a little bit after the shots are paused since the speed up ticker is still going

When this powerup has been picked up no one gets hit by fireballs, you can walk straight through them, but then again, be careful and listen to the ticking sound. The sound shall tick faster the closer it gets to the end of the timer.

Also when this has been picked up, try to shoot a few fireballs in the walls so they'll bounce off when the timer runs out, this throws people off quite a bit

Now when this powerup has been activated you'd be wanting to collect as many orbs and shoot as many fireballs as possible, and try to prevent others from collecting orbs as this could work greatly against your favour.

When it comes down to who has the most fireballs you still want to pick it up as it doesn't do much destruction wise.

And try to shock players as the timer is nearly run out so they'll have less time to respond or no time to respond at all and usually result in them running into a fireball
And finaly
This section has no more information about the game, but this is just me ranting on how hard it was to create and just a place to thank Mike Ventnor for giving me the images on all the items.

Mike gave me the image as one line up of all the power ups but I needed them individual, so I had to hop on GIMP and CUT... OUT... ALL... OF... THE... POWER... UPS... (Love you Mike)

And still, writing this was amazing, I was able to ramble on something I love while still helping others.
While it was a real pain in the fluff butt to write all of this, I'm still happy with the outcome of it.

Now on to many great Lupinball games!

May the Awoo be ever in your favour.
