Introduction information
Warning:

There has been reports of this being "bugged" for some characters. This site may help determine if your bugged: https://trewq.pl/wurm/mealcheck/

*Each affinity and each food ingredient along with the buff they give is different for each person.*

Reminders:

My examples purely are modeled off the very basics of what can be done while doing this.

Also, I only used normal items with no rarity at all. The only tools I used were a pottery bowl and an oven. The ingredients consisted of diced meat and chopped veggies. But the same concepts described will apply for spices as well.

Feel free to experiment on your own after trying the basics I have provided below. Some more advanced steps may be using a frying pan, forge, salt, nuts and the other possible methods to increase difficulty. I just highly suggest starting with the basics and going from there.

Lastly, I found the information on the forums by Galatyn at: https://forum.wurmonline.com/index.php?/topic/152361-easy-process-to-make-affinity-food/
Basic Understanding and Requirements
To get started you want to have a normal non rare oven and a normal non rare pottery bowl to cook in.

**Note: All Meat will be diced and Veggies will be chopped for the discussion and examples**

Meat types

Next, I suggest you start by figuring out what value you will get for each type of meat. Meaning to throw your diced meat into the pottery bowl and let it turn into a breakfast. Only make a breakfast with ONE MEAT only!, because ideally what we are doing it breaking it into sections to determine what each ingredient offers for your character.

Then once your breakfast is done, just simply taste it to determine what benefits you will receive from that dish. You will want to pay attention to the skill.

Now you just need to look up the skill in the table below. Once you found the skill then look at the corresponding number next to the skill. This is your numeric value for that certain type meat.
I suggest writing down the number because it will help later. The number you get from the table is what will be known as the your "Base Value" used later in the formula.

Discovering new ingredients:

After discovering all your numeric values for each type of meat. Its now time to start adding other ingredients.

Now in order to start figuring out other ingredient's numbers. You want to pick one type of your base meats, JUST ONE type. This way you keep your "Base Value"(the numeric value of that meat) the same while determining all the other ingredients.

For example: If I have humanoid meat and it gives me 50 numerical. Then I take note of this and start adding 1 humanoid meat and one veggie or spice. Ending up only using the 1 humanoid meat and 1 other ingredients within the creation of the breakfast.

Ideally what this does is the creation of breakfasts with only 2 ingredients while keep the meat the same throughout the whole experimental process. Thus allowing the discovery of the newly added ingredients.

For example: Insect meat (51) + Garlic = 21
So the Garlic must have a numerical value of -30. Thus figuring out that Garlic is now -30 numeric value.
21 = Weaponsmithing, so upon creation of this breakfast I will be able to gain an affinity in Weaponsmithing.
The Formula
This formula is intended for only two ingredients.

Total Number - Base Number = Actual Number

This formula will help determine what each item's number is for your character since each character has different numbers.

The "Total Number" is the combined number of the two ingredients.(Meat + Ingredient = Total Number). This number is told to you by tasting the finished breakfast then you simply look up the skill name and use the number next to it as the "Total Number" in the formula.

The "Base Number" is the item you already know the number of(The Meat). I suggest starting off with figuring out the meat first. Just cook the meat alone in a normal non rare oven inside a normal non rare pottery bowl.

To determine what number you get for the meat, you just simply look up the skill and use the number beside it.

The "Actual Number" is the numeric value of the new ingredient.

pfft, if it really counts that much crap then the entire system is just nuts to say the least >_<
Trogmoor 24 May, 2023 @ 3:04am
@Cocytus But tools you use also count. In example Oven adds 40 points and simple plate adds 69. When you use baking stone in a forge you get 63 points for stone and 42 for forge. Roasting dish is 65 additional points and sauce pan 74. So when you roast horse meat at oven you get 40+65+23 points, when you roast 2 meats into one mela you will get 40+65+23+23. Every steep and tool counts. Fun starts when you are trying to create pizza. You will use oven, stone, some ingrediends will by whole and some chopped. Chopping ingrediends adds aditional 16 points per ingredient. Without calculator and list of all point values its hard to hit specific skill.

if horse meat wwould be 23, the 1 horse meat would be 23 and 2 horse meats would be 46, not 94 and 117, that's the point i was trying to make there, i mean both meals were made in the same dish at the same campfire so something definitely isn't adding up or are you telling me that a campfire adds 71 right off the bat?
Trogmoor 15 May, 2023 @ 10:58am
@Cocytus Its because calculation takes into consideration where you preapare meal (Oven/Furnace etc.) and how you prepared every ingredient (is it chopped, minced, smoked - every process has additional recipe value for each ingredient). And yes, hosre meat is 23. Best way to create specific meal is to make one base meal. In my case its sandwitch (fat one): Plate with 2 bread slices, bison butter, chease, pork sausage, letuce, pea pods and tommato. It gave me "Carving Knife" bonnus. So next time i added additional Tommato to get "Normal Figtning" or Carrot to get "Aggressive fighting".

kinda funny since those numbers don't really seem to apply in any senseful way when using the same ingredient twice, like horse meat in my example gives fishing affinity (94) but using 2 horse meats will give me praying (117) so 1 meat = 94, 2 meats = 94+23...
so how on earth did the 23 came to be? O_o
Monoxide 27 Nov, 2017 @ 10:49am
@Klober - it works on modular values. Each cycle brings it back to 0. If that doesn't clear up anything, then the easiest answer is "because math" =p

:O , thanks! fixing it! and I assume because programmers start counting at 0 xD
Klober 22 Oct, 2017 @ 9:41pm
why is this number 0-137 instead of 1-138 just curious
Klober 22 Oct, 2017 @ 9:35pm
76 is saw missing on this list
