If you jump the moment you touch the balloons in Glittering Grove, you will shoot off in the direction you made contact, but you'll also complete your jump the moment you lose your momentum. If you take a run at the balloon before making contact, you'll keep your momentum and you can make some really ridiculous jumps.
To bypass the area to access Glittering Grove, inside the little cove with the mushrooms on bottom and the balloons on the left, if you make contact with the upper-right portion of the upper balloon and jump the moment you touch it (I was double jumping - not sure if that works off balloons) you will shoot off to the right and then ascend high enough you can climb the right wall or hook left and land on the platform above you. Sorry if this is already covered in the videos in your guide (they lock up my Steam overlay if I try to watch videos), but I didn't see it written anywhere.
Also a huge thanks to the developers who see things like this and don't rush to try and "fix" these, but instead embrace the glitches and exploits.
the "trial of skill" requires you to master all these techniques. which is crazy, because that means that the devs knew about these tricks when they made the game but kept them secret but then designed a challenge room that you have to know these tricks to get through it.
thats just sneaky...
