Skill Point Jumpstart

Description
Last updated: 14th July 2021

Quick overview:
  • Lords gain 2 skill points instead of 1 on level 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9 and 10
  • Lords will be able to gain a maximum of 48 skill points instead of 39 (9 more)
  • Heroes gain 2 skill points instead of 1 on level 2, 3, 4 and 5
  • Heroes will be able to gain a maximum of 43 skill points instead of 39 (4 more)
  • Integrated skill point dump for characters who have reached rank 40 which also supports heroes and lords from many other popular mods

The higher skill point gain on lower levels noticeably improves freshly recruited lords and heroes, especially spell-dependent casters. This makes '+x levels for recruited lords/heroes' bonuses more valuable, but does not increase snowballing potential later on, due to being strictly limited to only the early levels.

Works with both the Vortex and the Mortal Empires campaign

A skill point dump feature has been added to the mod. It works like this:

Includes built-in support for new lords and heroes from many mods, such as:

FAQ:
1. Help, this mod doesn't work!
The mod itself does work very well, but there is a chance that the new launcher does not load this mod for you correctly because... reasons. I can't fix this, but I can give you two different workarounds:
  • Use Kaedrin's Mod Manager available at https://github.com/Kaedrin/warhammer-mod-manager/releases/ to manage your mods. In the program, click on the GAME tab, set the game to Warhammer II and then tick the file @_skill_point_jumpstart.pack (that's this mod's file)
This launcher can also check for potential mod conflicts.
  • Find and delete the mod's mail file called @_skill_point_jumpstart.pack in ...\Steam\steamapps\workshop\content\594570\1170046515 and/or ...\Steam\steamapps\common\Total War WARHAMMER II\data and let Steam redownload it. This usually happens when you launch the TW: WH II launcher.

    OR
  • Switch to the launcher_release_candidate BETA. To do this, right-click Total War: Warhammer II in your Steam library, click on the BETAS tab and then select launcher_release_candidate from the dropdown menu. This doesn't seem to work for all people, so Kaedrin's Mod Manager is my first recommendation.

2. Is this mod compatible with ... ?
Most likely yes. It is designed to overwrite skill point changes of other mods, so you can still use bigger overhauls such as Radious or SFO: Grimhammer II and get this mod's skill points system together with all of the content of the other mod.
This mod has built-in support for many popular mods that add characters. The worst thing that can happen is that you don't get the skill point dump for every single character in your campaign, only for most of them. Write me a comment with a link to the mod so I can try to add compatibility.

3. Is this mod save game compatible?
Somewhat. New level ups gained with the mod active will correctly reward 2 points on the appropriate levels.
However, skill points can't be added retroactively. So your characters will not gain additional points for level ups gained in the past while the mod was not installed.

@Zorander

Thank you! I have the program that sets it up to look at it, but I wasn't able to find it. Just really want to be able to have more skill points and a little inpatient since the workshop isn't even set up yet. So was thinking of trying to do it myself

@Gibby: You mean the data table? It's character_experience_skill_tiers in WH I and II. Haven't checked WH III yet.

Hey, figured I'd try this question here, Zorander what data pack do you actually edit to give characters more skill points?
Zorander  [author] 8 Jan, 2022 @ 6:55pm
@Ancient_SpaceMan: I thought about adding a 1% hit points bonus or a flat bonus. I'm very busy at the moment, but I'll be revising this mod anyway next month when TW : WH III launches

Would it be possible to convert the skill point dump into a general light buff? For example +1 Melee Defense. Would be sick

This mod doesn't work with Settra, first time I have an issue with it!
Kaviel 1 Aug, 2021 @ 1:39pm
@zorander thanks man will do some testing with my friend see if we can get it working! let us pray it isn't a hard fix
Zorander  [author] 1 Aug, 2021 @ 1:18pm
@Kaviel: I just started a multiplayer campaign with a friend and we didn't get any errors when using just this mod, so it does not break multiplayer.
Check that both of you are using the same version or try deleting the mod's main file called @_skill_point_jumpstart.pack and letting Steam redownload it.
Steam Workshop usually chooses ...\Steam\steamapps\workshop\content\594570\1170046515 as the installation directory for this mod, but it also likes placing things in ...\Steam\steamapps\common\Total War WARHAMMER II\data .
Sometimes, CA's launcher does not actually do what you tell it to do in terms of mod selection. It also may have cached an incorrect version of the mod.
You can try Kaedrin's Mod Manager [github.com] as well.
There's nothing I can really do about the launcher or Steam Workshop. Hope you can find the issue tho, good luck.
