Dynamic Faction Names - BETA

Description
Mod Description

This is a quick mod I made that adds several tiers of faction names for nearly every faction in the grand campaign except for those that cannot settle, based on the amount of regions they hold. This includes emergent factions. The only two non-nomadic factions that I did not include in this mod are the Sassanid Empire and the Tanukhids, the former because it is already an Empire and isn't divided like Rome and the latter because they are already re-named as Empire of the Sands upon settling.

For all of the supported factions except for the Western and Eastern Roman Empires and four Arabian factions, there are three tiers of faction name. The first, which they all start off with, is their standard faction name. Using the Ostrogoths as an example, their first faction name will be "Ostrogoths". Then, upon conquering six regions, they will become the Ostrogothic Kingdom, and upon conquering 18 regions, they will become the Ostrogothic Empire. Do note that it is possible to be demoted in rank if a faction loses regions and goes below the threshold.

Also, this mod is purely cosmetic, and does not actually affect gameplay with effects or anything like that.

Special Cases

As mentioned above, the two halves of the Roman Empire and the Arabian factions are exempt from the standard dynsmic faction name progression. These are their special cases.

Arabian Empire

The four Arabian factions: the Ghassanids, Himyar, Mazun, and the Lakhmids can all form the Arabian Empire. While they still are able to use the standard 3 "ranks", for example Himyar becoming Himyar, the Himyarite Kingdom, and the Himyarite Empire respectively, they can also form the Arabian Empire by being an Empire and controlling all 6 Arabian regions.

Roman Empire

If one half of the Roman Empire is destroyed, then the remaining faction will become the sole Roman Empire and have its name promptly changed to it. The two Roman factions are immune to downgrading in "rank", and will always be empires, even if reduced to just one city.

Q&A

Q: Are there any plans for additional faction names?

Yes! I might add a feature whereas if the Western Roman Empire is dead, a faction that controls its de jure regions (the regions it started with in 395 AD) will be able to become the Western Roman Empire. From there, I might even let that faction become the sole Roman Empire if the Eastern Roman Empire is dead!

Q: Does this mod affect the AI factions as well?

A: Yes, AI factions will have their names changed if they grow big enough.

Q: I have six regions (or 18) and my faction name isn't kingdom (or empire)!

A: You either need to wait a turn for it to process or save your game and reload it to fix that issue.

Q: What about compatibility?

A: This mod isn't compatible with any mods which modify att_start.lua or scripting.lua, which sadly includes all of my other script-based mods. This might include Radious too, but I'm not sure since I don't use his mods.

Q: What languages are supported?

A: Right now only English. If you'd like to do a translation for the faction names, let me know or just go ahead and do it!

Q: Will there be support in the future for The Last Roman and Age of Charlemagne?

A: Yes, probably soon. However, for Age of Charlemagne I need to find a way to make it work or interface with the existing kingdoms script that Creative Assembly made.

Please report any bugs or issues you find with my mod! Thanks!

I like the idea of this, but am wondering if it could be done for cities. That place names change depending on ownership etc.

Hi :) I found a small bug:

in campaigns/main_attila/factionnames/dfn_lists.lua

att_fact_gaul should be att_fact_gallia.

Is there any possibility for you to fix it? :) If no then can I have permission to use your work in my own mod and fix it by myself?
