[Guide] Posing in Source Filmmaker
By Capt Fuzzy
A little guide I decided to do to try and help people new to SFM learn to pose their models realistically.

A little info...
One of the most common mistakes that people new to SFM make is to make a first poster and then think that it's the best thing since sliced bread, only to post it online and have someone more experienced come along and tell them that their posing needs work.
This can sometimes bring you down, but don't let it keep you down. Remember one thing, the more experienced user started out just like you once. They had little or no experience at that time either, but with practice and perserverance, they got better.., and you will too, so long as you don't give up, that is.
Posing can be done a couple of different ways:
  1. Realistic
  2. Comedic (cartooney)
The methods to do either of these are nearly identical, the outcomes, however, are not.

Doing a realistic pose means that your pose is mimicking something that you would most likely see in real life. A man sitting on a park bench feeding pigeons, or a woman jogging by. These are just a couple of examples, but hopefully you get the idea.
Realistic posing takes into account anatomy, how a real, flesh and bone, living creature would move, and thus pose.
This poster was done using a photo of the actual event as a guide:

A comedic pose, on the other hand, is meant to be funny, or fake, if you will.
Think of the most common poses that you would see a character like Mickey Mouse in. Those are comedic/cartoon poses.
You generally will not find real people standing around like that... lol

This image is more along the lines of what I'd call 'cartooney' or comedic posing:

None of the posing in this image is what I'd consider realistic.

Anyway, I hope this, and the following video can help you improve your posing skills...
