Before you attempt the weld
1: All credits go to the YouTuber Slim Jax. Here's a link to his page:
http://www.youtube.com/user/oikeemato?feature=watch
I would very much appreciate it if you subscribed and I'm sure he'd appreciate it too.

2: You have to have the developer console enabled. I don't know if it's on by default, and I'm
assuming that most if not all of you have it enabled already, but it has to be on.

3: When you spawn your npc, open the developer console and type in ai_disable
This will disable their artificial intellegence. It is helpful because hostile npcs won't shoot at you
and friendly npcs won't move around. When you want to turn the AI back on, just type
ai_disable in again. NOTE: It only works if you type it in AFTER you spawn the npc.

OTHER THAN THAT, ENJOY OR DIE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The Weld
STEP 1:

Spawn an npc. Any Npc. For this example, I will be using a combine soldier.

STEP 2:

Point at your npc and open the developer console (by pressing the ` key)

STEP 3:

type in:
ent_setname any name you want - and then press enter
(the example here is ent_setname madperson)
You should get a message in the console that says "Set the name of npc_(whatever npc you spawned) to (whatever name you typed in)"
This example should be "Set the name of npc_combine_s to madperson"

STEP 4:

Spawn whatever you want to weld to the npc. In this example, I will be using an ordinary crate.

STEP 5:

Position whatever you spawned in the way that you would like it welded to the npc.

STEP 6:

Point at whatever you want to weld onto the npc and open the developer console.

STEP 7:

Type in ent_fire !picker setparent (whatever name you chose for your npc) and press enter.
In this example, ent_fire !picker setparent madperson

Then it should be welded! Try moving your npc around. The welded object will stick to it (or should stick to it)

This is great for roleplay if you want to attach different sets of armor or helmets etc. to an npc.
It also works with cameras, so it's great for machinimas.

This needs a Workshop item. I'm a little surprised there isn't after like 15 years of GMod.
