It's not possible to make it stay updated indefinitely but I might be able to get it to stay updated for the 2.x version cycle.
I know it's been ages since I've updated any of my mods and to everybody who has complained (and those who silently grumbled to themselves), I apologize. Things are starting to settle down for me and I'm going to try and slot in some time to at least update version numbers this week.
As a side note though, could you please update the mod so that it is valid for all release versions? I keep getting the "outdated mods" notification when I know this mod could never really be outdated, and I have seen some old mods that are like "1.2+" and still aren't flagged as "outdated" by the launcher so it is possible to set the release version value as "all versions beyond this point".
To go above 10 is a lot of code, whereas this was originally just a texture replacement.
