Lara will always move relative to her own direction, regardless of the direction the camera is facing. This is not a glitch and the pannable camera allows you to observe your surroundings and plan your routes when traversing terrain.


This is the same camera mechanic used in Prince of Persia series and early Assassins Creed games (Notably the Altair and Ezio Arc)

When in doubt try to position the camera behind Lara (not always possible) to get an idea of which direction she will move / jump
