Description

As American Exploration System's enemies build their fleets up and increase their ships' size and power, AES warships increasingly find themselves engaged with massive cruisers and dreadnoughts that they are unprepared to deal with. Upon realizing this, rather then divert even more huge sums of money and resources away from the exploration focus of the organization, in order to construct equally large cruisers, AES leadership commissioned a small craft that would be able to surprise enemy warships with dedicated anti-armor firepower and punch holes in their hulls before their turrets could swing around to retaliate. The result was the Pantera Anti-Capital Bomber (ACB), a large two-man strike craft armed with a custom rocket bombardment system.

Despite being built on the Torino fighter's platform, the Pantera is a strictly anti-armor ship, and has almost no anti-fighter capabilities, bar two gatling guns. It also lacks the maneuverability to deal with other small craft. As a result, it should be accompanied by a fighter escort during bombing runs.

The ACB's claim to fame is its two-mode reloadable rocket launcher system. Two large pods of four launchers each are mounted on rotors to allow them to face either forward, for pinpoint strikes on weak points, or downward, for high-speed carpet-bombing passes.

  • Dry Mass: 61,175kg
  • Environment: Vacuum
  • No mods/pistons, 2 rotors; survival ready

  • 2 gatling guns
  • 8 reloadable rocket launchers (sequenced)

  • 3 batteries

  • 14 small cargo containers
  • 1 medium cargo container (intended strictly for missile storage)

  • 2 oxygen generators

  • Repair Projector
Projects a hologram of the ship in line with the actual craft to facilitate repairs.
  • ACMS-DM8
Anti-Capital Missile System sporting eight reloadable rocket launchers, dual operation modes, and fire sequencing.

Usage Notes:
  • When switching launcher orientation, the launchers themselves are disabled for the duration of the process, which is about 4 seconds. Each cockpit has a green indicator that will stay lit when the launchers are able to be fired. These indicators are sensor controlled, which means that they will remain accurate if a bug or other issue causes the rotation to take longer.
  • While the Pantera can be operated adequately by one person, it is useful to bring a gunner along to manage the ACMS-DM8 and top-mounted missile turret, while the pilot focuses on flying only. Additionally, the gunner has access to a downward-facing targeting camera, allowing for more precise carpet-bombing runs.
