This series of guides will teach you how to obtain the Aperture Science achievement in Portal. Before you're able to achieve this you need to have finished the game first for the Bonus Challenges to unlock.



This guide will show you how to get Gold on all of the Least Steps Challenges. If you've already completed Least Steps you can find my guides for Least Portals and Least Time below.

When you throw the cube out of the Portal at the beginning make sure you give it some momentum by swinging it slightly before you let go. If you land on the cube you will end up taking unnecessary steps. Be sure you create your final Portal right next to the exit elevator also as one extra step could cause you to get Silver instead of Gold.

• Bronze: 30
  
• Silver: 20
  
• Gold: 10

Test Chamber 14 is very easy to complete. Use the large drop to give you momentum to land on the exit elevator. If you crouch jump you're able to trim out a few steps also.

• Bronze: 55
  
• Silver: 20
  
• Gold: 10

This test chamber is easy if you've mastered the art of balancing between Portals. Creep in just enough so you can see the opposite colored Portal to the one you just entered before placing another. Don't move in too far or you will end up falling out. If you do this correctly you'll end up smashing the target for Gold.

• Bronze: 75
  
• Silver: 65
  
• Gold: 55

Test Chamber 16 can take some time to complete. I would suggest quick saving as much as possible on this one as the there is a large possibility of death. It can take several attempts to place the Portals in the correct spots to kill the turrets. If you end up missing one of the turrets at the 1 minute mark in my video, you'll need to restart the challenge.

• Bronze: 70
  
• Silver: 55
  
• Gold: 40

This is the hardest challenge in the Least Steps category. If you crouch jump by hitting space followed by control you're able to cut out a few steps on the long stretch. Ideally you want to be at around 80-85 steps before you hit the main chamber, any higher then that and you run the risk of being just over by the end.

• Bronze: 215
  
• Silver: 175
  
• Gold: 150

Test Chamber 18 is very generous with the amount of steps it gives you to complete it. Use the cube as a shield in the turret chamber and try to avoid getting hit as it pushes you back and causes you to take steps.

• Bronze: 150
  
• Silver: 120
  
• Gold: 85
