What are grenades?
The grenades I will be going through are the hand grenades. They are throwables that deal damage in the area in which they landed. They are often times the first thing you unlock in the game after the starter rifles, and are therefore often the first thing new players buy.

To be able to effectively use grenades, you need to learn their place in the game to use them to their highest potential. Grenades might seem annoying in the game, but they are an important part of the game, and knowing how to properly use grenades will benefit you tons in the game.
The different grenades in the game
All 3 factions have access to the same 4 grenades. The Mk II, The M24, The RGD-33, and the M24 Frag Sleeve.

The Mk II

The Mk. II has the shortest throwing distance out of any of the available grenades, but does much more damage to targets within its blast radius. Its greater damage makes this grenade an extremely potent and deadly room clearer. Its low equip cost makes the Mk. II a fine choice to complement any standard offensive kit.
The Cost per Unit thrown is 154 Credits or 2 Gold.

The M24
The M24 has the greatest throwing distance out of any of the available grenades, but sacrifices power to do so. Due to its greater range, this weapon is capable of assaulting entrenched enemy positions where other grenades would fall short. The low equip cost makes the M24 a fine choice to complement any standard offensive kit.

The RGD-33
The RGD-33 is the standard anti-personnel stick grenade of the Red Army. Its great balance between damage and range makes it a fine compromise between the Mk. II and Stielhandgranate 24. Its low equip cost makes the RGD-33 a fine choice to complement any standard offensive kit. It is also somewhat cheaper to resupply compared to the American and German grenades

The M24 Frag Sleeve
The frag sleeve variant of the M24 has greater effective killing power than basic M24 grenades(the highest raw damage of all frag grenades in the game), although their lethal(killzone) and blast(partial damage) radius are smaller and the refill cost is higher.
How to get the different grenades
The first grenade you will unlock is the Mk II hand grenade. It is unlocked at infantry assault level 3.
This can be be achieved very easily and quickly with the starting rifle.

The next two grenades (RGD-33, Stielhandgranate 24) are unlocked at explosives level 5. This is achieved by using the Mk II hand grenade effectively, as well as using other explosives to blow up vehicles and kill people.

The last hand grenade, the M24 Frag Sleeve is unlocked at explosives level 7. It's yet again unlocked by using explosives to kill people and blow up vehicles.
How to actually use the grenades
Before this section starts, there's one VERY important thing to grenades that a LOT of beginners miss. I shouldn't even have to mention this, but grenades do NOT to armor damage. Throwing grenades against an APC, Kubelwagen or a Tank will not do any damage to the car. The only thing you're doing is wasting your own money and putting your teammates at risk. Do NOT ever throw a grenade with the intent of destroying a vehicle. It will NOT work.

When throwing grenades, always make sure you're not throwing in the general direction of a teammate. Grenades do just as much damage to yourself and your teammates as they do to enemies. Nothing's more frustrating than getting killed by your own teammate, because they were to inattentive to notice that they're throwing grenades at you. Don't be that guy.

What you might see other people do a lot is spam grenades. This is never something you should do. The most annoying thing in this game is arguably taking a ♥♥♥♥ at someone and having tons of grenades lobbed at you rendering you useless for a couple of seconds. This isn't a good way to use grenades. To just lob them whenever you see opponents will yield bad results. Grenades aren't super cheap. If you throw them around just like that, you're gonna have a hard time getting positive credits.

The most important thing is to throw grenades only when you have to. The biggest mistake people do is they just don't know this. People will lob grenades around, but for the best results you have to be a bit more selective with your throws. That's the first tip. Really think before you throw. "Is this really something I wanna spend 150 credits on?" should be running through your head everytime you're about to throw a grenade.

Grenades can be used not only to cause damage, but also to force someone out of a position. Let's see a person is in a corner, and you both know where the other one is, but you don't want to peek as to not get ambushed by the enemy. What you can do is lob a grenade at him, not only to cause damage, but to force him to peek. Then you can take your shot without ever having to peeking.

One other way you can use grenades is to level the distance between you and the enemy. If you're being shot from behind and you turn a corner, you can quickly throw a grenade behind you so the enemy can't push you. This might not kill the enemy, but will certainly buy yourself some time to get some health or try to repeek.
Conclusion
Pick a grenade that fits your playstyle.
Do not try to blow up things with grenades.
Do not spam your grenades.
Do not throw grenades against your teammates.
Do use the grenades to the best of your ability without it being a hazard to your teammates.
