Alright, so right off the bat, a good amount of CS players know that you can apply a stretched resolution to the game to make everyone and everything wider and easier to hit.

Aspect ratio stretching, in a nutshell, is taking a resolution with an aspect ratio different from your monitors native and then stretching it to fill the entire screen. When done right, this can give the illusion of enemies becoming wider, therefore making them easier to hit. This is widely used by pros and casual players alike.


The answer is rather simple on the surface, but this trick also has its cons which may prevent you from wanting to use it.

You SHOULD use it because:

• It makes enemies easier to hit,
  
• It can provide a solid framerate boost.

A solid framerate boost may not seem that useful to people with computers that can already run the game with max settings, but more fps will also make your mouse's input more precise. This is due to the increased framerate and lowered frametimes. This effect is across all games.

You SHOULD NOT use it, cause:

• Your field-of-view will narrow greatly,
  
• Moving can be clunky at first,
  
• Screen distortion may feel weird,
  
• It is not that graphically pleasing.

The biggest con with this tweak is definitely the reduction of FOV. You also have to adjust to the new movement, since you your left-right movements will be a lot quicker now.
But as with everything this guide, it's only an illusion.


It ranges from really powerful to just powerful, depending on what aspect ratio you have decided to stretch.

DISCLAIMER: This tutorial focuses heavily on the NVIDIA side of things. I lack an AMD card, so i cannot recreate the steps required to help you get stretching work if you are on an AMD card. But even so, this tutorial can help you nevertheless.

Stretching the resolutions out is rather easy, and as long as you are planning to do a 5:4 or a 4:3 stretch, you only need to take two steps. 1:1 is a bit more difficult with 4 steps.

The first step is to set the image type to "stretch" in your nvidia control panel.


For 4:3 and 5:4, you're done now. Exept that you havent applied mouse yaw compensation.

Why is this important?
Because aspect ratio stretching makes everything wider horizontally, your mouse movement will also be more sensitive horizontally. I have a fix for this.

Copy & paste everything after the - into your console.
For 5:4 - m_yaw "0.01749"
For 4:3 - m_yaw "0.01837"
For 1:1 - see below.

Great, your stretched resolution is working now.

For 1:1 though, the process is more complicated. You need to set the resolution manually through the games launch options, and you need to make the resolution aswell.

So, step one would be making the resolution.


Do note that on some computers you need to set the 1:1 resolution as your desktop resolution to make it work properly. It's not guaranteed that it will happen, but if you still face problems it's required to do.

Okay, now that that is done, it is time to go into the games launch options and enable the resolution.


ATTENTION
We are going to have to mouse compensate for this stretching aswell.

Now, for 1:1 you need to add the same horizontal mouse movement compensation as before.

Just as before, copy and paste into the console.
m_yaw "0.01309"

Aaand you're set!

Now go clean all the occurences of virtual terrorism in your warped vision of reality.
