The Deal
Alright I'll keep it brief since we all need to get back to grinding.
During your adventures in the Reik, you've no doubt run into the situation where you find yourself or a team member utterly alone and in danger from any of the following:
  • Hordes
  • Specials
  • Stupidity Bosses

The obvious answer to this problem is to simply stick with the group and not to stray far. But sometimes this isn't easily done as we can't drag everone with us wherever we go. So instead I've devised a system so brilliant and yet so remarkably simple that I've no choice but to teach it to other heroes of the Reik.
Behold the buddy system
When you see another player going alone towards a book or objective, catch up to them and ensure their safety by catching specials, providing protection from ambient foes, or even by assisting them in keeping the horde away.
This can even be applied during battle itself, if you ever catch yourself surrounded by rats or northlanders, seek out the nearest player and stay with them. Certain characters such as Sienna have difficulty with melee so make them your primary buddy when a horde comes to keep enemies away from them as they focus down specials and elites.
Don't be afraid to ask another player to come with you should you need to split off from the group, after all, a distant downed teammate helps no one.

Things to keep in mind while applying the system:
  • Maintain awareness of where your buddy is at all times, a stray shot of your own can be just as dangerous to a wounded ally as an enemy.
  • Tagging enemies, ammunition, and healing is always a good idea, in the absence of voice communication it can mean the difference between life and death.
  • Take turns checking each others back, vermin and northlanders alike love to take the last sliver of health from behind when you're least aware.
  • If your ally is a squishier career (Slayer, Pyromancer etc.) consider taking the brunt of an attack that they can't see coming, even if they don't notice your sacrifice you can be sure they appreciate the effort.
And above all
If you ever leave your buddy?
THAT'S A GRUDGIN'

thank you for recommending teamwork in a co-op game! it seems most people only focus on getting all the bubbles and forget that most would rather they not have the 'taken most damaged' in leiu of staying alive.

amazing guide this needs to be preached at every turn in this game such a huge difference in success when played as a conscience team. I find myself doing the buddy system without even realzing it seems like a lot of common sense but sometimes people need to be reminded of the basic/ common tactics.

Well i just pick one of the group as the leader for myself and then stupidly follow him no matter what..... i guess that behaviour is due to my German heriatge ^^

I like the name. I'm sure a lot of people would've named it "How not to be a retarded teammate", but "The Buddy System" certainly sounds nicer

I wish more people had read this. This is great! Great job SuperPylon.
I often find myself trying to get a teammember to my location for a heal or supplies, because they just barge forward on the map at half hp without percieving what's around them.
As a result of this, I spend a significant amount of my attention during a game, actively trying to heal my team and give them usefull stuff. This I dont really mind very much, since I enjoy looking out for the team. But it shouldn't really be needed right?
Anyway, how would one encourage random people from quick games to "slow down" notice the environment and look for supplies and tagged things?
