An Old Friend

How to trigger it

When you kill an enemy there's a random chance it will drop a golden coin that will stay on the screen for a couple seconds. If you manage to catch it before it disappears you will fight An Old Friend after beating the next boss. Finding the golden coin might be hard, but it's also surprisingly easy to collect it by accident while playing.

How to beat it

Old Friend will always start by rotating in circle around the screen while scattering blue static projectiles around the screen while spraying intermittently purple shots in your direction. Just stay on the left side of the screen away from the blue projectiles and strafe up and down to avoid the purple shots.

After a while he will switch to another pattern where he moves to a position of the screen and then spreads green bullets in a circular pattern around him that will explode in a small blue shot in the same direction the green bullet was thrown. This pattern is also very easy to predict and dodge. He will alternate between the first two patterns automatically until he's low enough on health.

When the health is low enough the boss will automatically switch to the 3rd and final pattern. Old Friend will go up and down in a straight line while shooting purple bullets in a horizontal line and scattering blue projectiles that this time will go all the way to the border of the screen. He will also randomly move left and right, but won't shoot while doing that. Since the purple shots are easy to predict, focus instead on avoiding the big blue projectiles that are thrown at random. Shoot him a little more and he's done. This is probably the easiest of the six secret boss fights.

Beating this boss will award you with the Ticket to the Great Adventure achievement.

Trivia: boss and achievement are both a tribute to The Great Paper Adventure[team-monique.itch.io], the first shooter game created by one of Steredenn's devs (Valryon).
The Red Baron

How to trigger it

The Red Baron will appear if you manage to reach stage 4 without taking any damage. If you did, you will fight him immediately after beating the Destroyer. This makes the Red Baron one of the hardest secret bosses to trigger (though at least it doesn't rely on RNG). My advice is to use the Fury as it's the fastest ship available; ignore obviously the perks that deal damage to enemies when you take it and get rather perks to upgrade survivability (+2 HP, light armor, self-regenerating shield...) and/or firepower, as it can be a pretty tough boss fight with low HP ship.

How to beat it

The boss fight will usually start with the Red Baron shooting small barrages of bullets in a horizontal line. It might look easy to avoid, but you'll soon realize that the Baron will actually follow your vertical ship movement no matter how fast it is! And don't even think of going behind him, he will just squash you to the right side of the screen. The best strategy here is to rhythmically go up and down to dodge bullets while spraying him with your own ones.

After this phase, the Baron will randomly go into one of the other three modes he has:

Grenade launcher: the ship "muzzle" will bend on an upward angle and the Baron will start lobbing grenades with an arcing trajectory that will explode after a small travel time. Just stay below him or far from him on the left and you will be completely safe, but if he goes on the bottom-left side go to the top-right side right away or you'll take a lot of damage.

Spread shot: the Red Baron will move around the screen while shooting two barrage of small bullets on each side of the ship and big bullets in a horizontal line. This won't be an issue as long as you stay on the left side of the screen far away from him. Be careful though because he can also move in the bottom left/right corners of the screen and put you in the trajectory of the small bullets.

Laser: here comes the problem... the Baron can start shooting intermittently a big horizontal laser that reaches up to the left border of the screen and will deal massive damage to you if you touch it. Since the Baron's ship will float anywhere from the middle to the border of the screen and will follow your movement, avoiding it won't really be easy. My suggestion is to try and stay on the side of the screen opposite of the vertical direction he's moving into and either wait for the laser to stop and move to the other side or try to go behind him. You will never get to shoot him straight in this phase, so bots are probably your best bet here if you still want to do damage to him.

The Baron will alternate between all the four phases (including the first one) randomly until the end. Because of the laser, beware of NEVER, EVER stand still in front of him after he's done shooting any of the other phases, or you can get destroyed instantly! This is a pretty tough fight so as I said make sure you have strong weapons and improved survivability before entering it.

Beating this boss will award you with the Ace of Aces achievement and will also unlock the Red Baron as a playable ship in the other game modes. As a playable ship, Red Baron comes equipped with the three weapons you see in the latter phases (spread, grenade and laser) and he can move faster indefinitely by holding the special ability button, but he will not be able to pick any other weapons at all.

Trivia: an obvious reference to Manfred von Richthofen, the legendary German WWI pilot that acquired the same monicker.
Garbage Collector

How to trigger it

The Garbage Collector will appear after the next boss if you let two consecutive cargo ships pass by without destroying them. This is likely the easiest secret boss to trigger.

How to beat it

The Garbage Collector will cycle through three patterns in a set rotation. It will always start by shooting five big blue bullets that become spinning green crosses moving slowly towards the left side of the screen. These can be tricky to avoid, so if you don't feel like dodging you can sit behind the boss. Beware because it will still be throwing debris from the rear of the ship.

In the second phase the Garbage Collector will start spitting out space debris on the top and bottom side of the screen. These won't hurt you but will hinder your movement in the other sequences if you don't destroy them. In this phase it will also always spit out a weapon you can pick up - luckily you didn't give up on those cargos in vain!

Finally in the third phase the boss will spread a barrage of small blue bullets in a circular pattern around him followed by five purple bullets aimed directly at you (not shown here on the screenshot). Pay very close attention to the small bullets because it can be tricky to navigate through them.

Beating this boss will award you with the Space Dumpster achievement.
Alien Threat

How to trigger it

Ancient Power is an upgrade that sometimes drops as an extra 6th upgrade after beating a boss. If you pick it up, the next level an enemy ship could be replaced by a blue oval alien ship going straight through the middle of the screen. Just stick to it with ancient power and you will eventually blow it up, triggering the secret boss at the beginning of the next level.
If you're having issue finding Ancient Power, here's a seed that spawns it after the 2nd boss and makes the blue ship appear right after: 513195487.

How to beat it

Prepare for a long and annoying fight. In the first pattern, the alien ship will spread blue fireballs that stop after a short travel time alternated with a spread of purple fireballs aimed in your direction.

After doing this, the boss will shoot a straight laser that crosses the entire screen horizontally. It will shoot it twice in a row, then pause and shoot again twice, rinse and repeat until it got bored with it.

Oh boy, it's bullet hell time. Blue and purple bullets will fill the entire screen except for a small corridor you can follow if you want to be safe.

You destroyed the ship, you won! Well, actually no... and here you'll understand why this boss is annoying. Every time you destroy a part it will split into more smaller parts that will attack you at the same time. Yikes! After the first split, the front of the ship will shoot two spinning green crosses moving in your direction (like the Garbage Collector does), while the back of the ship will alternate between shooting lasers and spreads of small purple shots aimed in your direction.

When you destroyed the front of the ship it will split in two more parts, one of which will shoot purple small bullets in four directions around it (one of which will always be aimed at you) while the other one will shoot short horizontal barrages of small blue bullets.

Destroying the rear of the ship will instead spawn a ship that spits out small hardly visible stun mines (the ones dropped by the "spy" enemy in the regular game) and another ship that shoots a green ball that explodes into three spreads of purple bullets.

Finally, destroying any of these parts will spawn four small ships that won't shoot, but will follow you and hurt you if you touch them. Luckily for you they don't have much health.

The easier way to clear this boss is to proceed methodically by fully destroying one part before splitting the other one in two. Start going for the rear of the ship to get rid of those lasers and purple bullets, the destroy the part that shoots exploding green bullets if you can, if not destroy the one that drops stun mines then the other one. Try to destroy the four small ships before killing the other part. When you fully cleared the rear of the ship it's start to attack the front. Once you're done with the cross guy, go for the part that shoots purple bullets and you'll be left with the relatively harmless blue bullet guy. You're done, oof!

Beating this boss will award you with the Attracted to You achievement.
Asteroworm

How to trigger it

While playing the game you will notice there are occasionally some unusual asteroids with tentacles flying around the map. If you destroy enough of them (exact number is currently unknown), the Asteroworm boss fight will trigger after beating the next regular boss. It is unknown if destroying the rocks with the green blob on it count for the boss too.
If you're not getting lucky, the following seed spawns a ton of tentacle asteroids throughout the first 3 levels: 696096153.

How to beat it

This boss is pretty hard because you'll have to fight the entire time in an asteroid belt where you can get randomly take damage from the environment hazard at any time. His first attack is a barrage of green bullets that will go arcing down to the bottom part of the screen while slightly tracking you. Only the bullet itself will hurt you, not the [wave behind it]. This phase will usually last pretty long every time and it's probably the hardest one.

In the second phase he will spit lines of bullets in a circle around him. The line will stop before hitting you, then bobble back in the other direction and go out of the screen. This part is pretty easy as long as you keep track of the lines going behind him.

His third attack sees him spitting rocks with green blob on it and tossing them in your direction. The rocks will explode before reaching the left side of the screen and being caught in the radius of the explosion will deal a lot of damage to you. By staying on the far left side of the screen you will likely avoid being hit by any of these.

Beating this boss will award you with the Daddy's Not Happy achievement.

Trivia: This boss was formerly known as Verdukul, which in French means "butt worm".
Super Chabal

How to trigger it

The Chabal ships are a common enemy you fill find throughout the game. These are tanky ships with a pirate skull on their side that will commonly charge straight in your direction after a waiting couple seconds, then slowly go back to the middle of the screen. If you destroy enough of them (at least 5 - maybe more), the secret boss Super Chabal will appear after beating the next boss.

How to beat it

Super Chabal has three attacks. The first attack is a spread of slightly tracking big purple shots that are pretty slow and can be easily dodged. He seems to use it every time you try to sit too close to him or behind him.

During its second and main attack, the screen will start shaking and Super Chabal will charge towards the left side of it and go out of bounds. He will come back charging again from the right side of the screen several times with a red warning marker to tell you the average direction of his charge. After he did that a few times, he will rest on the left side of the screen for a little, then proceed with another sequence of charges, this time going from left to right. If he hits you with the charge he will push you all the way to the side of the screen. Although the charges hurt (both yourself and the boss), the boss itself is pretty straightforward to beat. If you're really lazy you can just take the Fortress and tank through his charges while he kills himself!

Finally, Super Chabal has another way more rare attack (its appearance is pure RNG as confirmed by the devs). Here the skull on his side will open its mouth and spawn a rotating whirl of blue bullets around him, followed after a while by a single bullet that will explode into a barrage of purple bullets that will track your position. Just stay far away from the boss and wait for the purple bullets to dodge them.

Beating this boss will award you with the SUPERCHABAL achievement.

Trivia: Both enemy ship and boss are named after Sébastian Chabal, famous former French rugby player who was known for his aggressive tackles, reflected in the way Chabal ships charge at you.

I found 147893436 to be a pretty nice one - Homing missiles on first stage, quite easy with fury, only took me 30 mins.

Welp. Answered my own question. For future use, Seed 478323932 will spawn 7 Chabals by Wave 3.

Don't suppose anyone's got a Seed for Super Chabal? I rarely ever see 3 Chabals in a run, let alone 5+.
