How the system of castles, forts, relics, gems, dragon gates and dragon wishes seems to work in Champions of Regnum as at 6 Apr 2013. The developers have not yet updated the wiki or game rules description, so this is purely a guide done by a player, based on what I observe to be the case. Please comment if you have any feedback :P

Part One: Gathering up the Relics
Inventory of forts, castles and gates for each of the Realms

There are three Realms: Alsius, Syrtis and Ignis. Each Realm has two Forts, one main Castle and one Main Gate. The names of Alisus's Forts and Castles are respectively Aggersborg, Trelleborg and Imperia. The names for Syrtis's fortifications are Herbred, Algaros and Eferias. The names for Ignis's fortifications are Samal, Menirah and Shanaarid. All Forts have the same layout, but each Castle has a different layout. You will need to become familiar with these layouts, so explore the Castles while you can. I will now call all Forts and Castles “fortifications”.

The Relics of each Realm

Each fortification has a Relic which is resident to that fortification. This Relic is stored inside a caged pedestal. The location of this pedestal is the same in every Fort, but is slightly different in each Castle. Each fortification has three upgrade levels costing 100,000 gp each, which is paid into a chest located in the fortification. The third upgrade buys a Guard Captain or GC, which is a very strong NPC champion, as well as iron gates. When bought., the GC appears at the front gate of every Fort, and inside the GC room next to the Castle's Relic pedestal in each Castle. Each Fort also has an two-way escape hatch which can be used anytime by the Realm possessing the Fort. Castles do not have an escape hatch.

All nine Relics are always visible on the Main Map. Each Relic has a different appearance. The Relics of Ignis are all skulls. Those of Alsius are supposed to be treasures like coins, and those of Syrtis are crowns.

How to capture a fortification

To capture a fortification, you must break any gate and kill any GC. Where no GC is present, a capture Flag is visible inside each Fort and Castle. When you click on the Flag, a roughly thirty second timer will start. If no enemy clicks on the Flag before the expiry of that timer, your Realm will have captured that fortification. If an enemy does click on that Flag, then the timer will reset and your capture is cancelled. A Hunter or player in CamouFlage or Stalker Surroundings can click on that Flag, but I believe he loses invisibility whenever he does so.

How to capture relics from the fortification

Once you have captured the fortification, a thirty minute timer will begin. Provided your Realm holds that fortification for thirty minutes, then the pedestal holding the resident Relic for that fortification will open. I believe anyone can click on that tiny little golden Relic on the velvet red pad to take it. Usually the Realm possessing the fortification takes it. I believe that if you take it while mounted, you can always ride or dismount with it. However, if you take it while dismounted, then you can never ride with it. While this is my belief, there may be slightly different scripted rules applying for this. The carrier of the Relic can fight and benefit from invisibility spells like CamouFlage or Stalker Surroundings while holding the Relic. While holding the Relic, a golden beam of light extends above him or her so everyone will know where he is. This beam is visible for some distance away from him or her.

Relics from an enemy realm may already be deposited at the Castle. These are located on a separate pedestal to the resident Relic of the Castle. This pedestal is located near the three guards who try to protect the Flag for the Castle. Like the resident Relic, these relics cannot be taken from their pedestal until the thirty minute timer has elapsed since the Castle changed hands.

The Relic may be deposited at the Realm’s Castle

The Relic carrier can then take the Relic and deposit it at her or his Realm's Castle. However, this can only be done if the Castle has no enemy Relics in it, or already has some enemy Relics from the Realm whose Relic he is being deposited. This prevents a Realm from invading two Realms at once.

Where the Relic carrier does not deposit the Relic into the Relic carrier's Realm Castle within a further thirty minute time period, commencing from the time the Relic was taken from its home fortification, then the carrier of the Relic will instantly die, and the Relic returned to its home fortification. This means the Relic carrier cannot run around indefinitely while holding the Relic.

If the Relic carrier is killed or suicides while carrying the Relic, anyone else can pick up the dropped Relic. If the Relic carrier suicides by jumping into an impossible location, usually underwater or off a cliff, the game is usually scripted to return the Relic to the nearest reachable location. For example, this could be the riverbank.

How to summon the Realm Dragon for invasion

Provided a Realm's three Relics are all taken to one Castle, then the Realm whose Castle that is instantly summons a Realm dragon to help in the invasion of the Realm whose Relics were gathered. The name of the Alsius dragon is Alasthor, the name of the Ignis dragon is Tenax and the name of the Syrtis dragon is Vesper. All three dragons are of equal strength and all three when summoned for invasion are largely invincible and will one-hit kill anything in the range of its flame and stomp weapons.

The dragon is summoned for a maximum of one hour. The dragon takes about 5 minutes to fly from the Castle of the invading Realm to the gate of the Realm being invaded. During that hour, the Main Gate of the Realm being invaded will become vulnerable to damage by anyone.
Part Two: Invading the Main Gate and grabbing the Gems
The Main Gate of the Realm

Each Realm has a Main Gate which has two doors and a Flag inside the gate. The dragon will station itself at a fixed location outside this Main Gate. This makes it hard for any player of any Realm other than the Realm of the dragon to enter or exit the Main Gate. However, every Main Gate also has two two-way escape hatches which are stationed far away on each of the two walls next to the Main Gate. These escape hatches are always useable by the defending Realm, even if no invasion is underway. There are also two mini-gates useable by the Realm holding the Main Gate on each side of the Main Gate. Players use these four access pathways to get inside to defend the Main Gate or the Gems of their Realm. An invading Realm can break the first gate and click on the Flag to capture the Main Gate. They can also break the second gate to gain access to the inner Realm. At the moment, many Realms prefer to break just the first gate, then jump over the inner walls of the Main Gate. This means you do not break the inner gate of the Main Gate because it is easier to then break it while trying to exit the defending Realm with any captured Gems. I believe capturing the Flag of the Main Gate restores the gates of the Main Gate.

How to capture the Gems of the Realms

Each Realm has two Gems. These Gems are situated at two widely spread locations in the inner zone of each Realm, behind their Main Gate. You should learn the location of these Gems by invading with veteran players, and learn the location of these Gems in your home Realm so that you can ride to defend them if the need so arises. I believe anyone can pick up these Gems, though I am not sure if the defending Realm can pick them up to move them to a safer location. A Gem carrier gains a very big boost in HP but he or she cannot fight or ride and can only run. The Gem carrier can benefit from buffs such as stalker surroundings or speed boosts. The Gem appears as a coloured Gem icon moving on the Main Map. The depicted location is deliberately designed to be slightly slow in updating. The Gem icon only appears on the map when it is not in its home pedestal or socketed at the Dragon Gate.

How to kill the NPC noble and General of each Realm

Each Realm also has an NPC noble who is the General of the Realm. He is located in the main city of each Realm. The main city of Alsius is Montsognir, of Ignis is Altaruk and of Syrtis is Fisgael. Provided you have obtained the quest to kill nobles from the general of your own Realm beforehand, you will receive 10,000 warmaster coins, if you complete killing one noble General of each enemy Realm. Once dead, the General of each enemy Realm respawns in about 20 to 25 minutes.

How to take the Gem back to your Realm

The Gem carrier's objective is to run with the Gem all the way home to his or her own Realm, and then to the Dragon Gate of his or her own Realm. Each Dragon Gate has six sockets. The Realm's players need to socket in two Gems from each enemy Realm and also take the Realm's own two Gems from their home pedestals and socket them in, for a total of six Gems. Once all Gems are socketed, the dragon gate will open. For a short period, anyone can then enter the dragon gate.

How to make a Dragon Wish

Once inside the dragon gate, the Realm dragon will appear (oddly, this could mean two identical dragons or maybe even three appear on the map at the same time) and offer a Dragon Wish. These wishes range from warmaster coins for all in the dragon gate to bonus xp for one week. There is also one wish for a Draconic Gem, to be awarded to the one victorious player in a free-for-all PvP fight inside the Dragon Gate. The Draconic Gem confers a physical size boost and a significant HP and damage boost to the victorious player. Each wish may only be granted once per week.

Conclusion

New players should take the time to learn the locations and layouts of fortifications, including the locations of Flags, donation chests, GCs, pedestals of resident relics and pedestals of captured relics. New players should also learn the locations of NPC noble Generals and Gems for all Realms. Good luck in War and have fun !
