I would like to point out that the rebels have scientific minds, one of which tamed a headcrab, I think they could capture and remove the control of a combine soldier.

you literally get to fight combine soldiers after the citadel got destroyed i don't think that happened

After citadel got destroyed their commanding chips in heads got dammaged so they get their free will back, or simly rebels stealed combine uniforms

we dont care if its accurate for hl2 lore or not
HL3 will have friendly combines
