Introduction and Warning

Welcome! If you're looking to play the old legacy build of ZPS v2.4, then you're in the right guide.

First, I'd like to inform and advise you a few things before we head it over:

This is a very old and unstable build running on Source SDK 2007 code.
This build is no longer supported by the developers.
Errors and broken content may still pop up in-game.
Play at your own risk.

PS: There is a Steam group dedicated to those who wish to play 2.4 together. You can join the group here.

Installation and Setup

To download the original legacy Zombie Panic! Source build, follow these steps bellow:

1. Right click on "Zombie Panic Source".
2. Select the "Properties" option.
3. Select the "Betas" tab.
4. Choose the "legacy2.4" build and click OK.

Steam will automatically download the legacy build normally. Be sure to restart your Steam client after a full installation.

Getting your ZPS v2.4 running

Before clicking to play the legacy, you need to manually edit one .txt file to manage it working. Head over to your Steam folder and search for your Zombie Panic Source dir at:
Steam\steamapps\common\Zombie Panic Source\zps

Search for a file called gameinfo.txt, open and edit it by copying this following quotes above:

"GameInfo" { game "Zombie Panic! Source" "developer" "Zombie Panic! Team" "developer_url" "https://zombiepanicsource.com/" "icon" "zps" "manual" "http://www.zombiepanic.org/ZPSmanual.pdf" type multiplayer_only nomodels 0 nohimodel 1 nocrosshair 1 hidden_maps { "test_speakers" 1 "test_hardware" 1 } nodegraph 0 FileSystem { SteamAppId 17500 // GCF for Source SDK Base ToolsAppId 211 // Tools will load this (ie: source SDK caches) to get things like materials\debug, materials\editor, etc. SearchPaths { Game |gameinfo_path|. Game zpscustom Game zps Game |all_source_engine_paths|hl2 } } }

After replacing with this new gameinfo, click to save it. If you're having difficulties, download the gameinfo.txt directly at: https://www.dropbox.com/s/83hgyp39bfqfmry/gameinfo.zip

Conclusion

If you've followed all those steps above, you're free to play old ZPS v2.4! You can always go back to the public build any time by heading over to "Betas" tabs and select "NONE". Steam will automatically rollback to the current public build.

OBS: This build may be removed from Steam servers eventually. We'll make it available again on ModDB's website as archived.

I'm not sure why is not working on your end. Perhaps the gameinfo.txt is wrong and needs an update. We'll try look into it but no promises for a solution since it's an unsupported build.

I couldn't get it to work. Even after replacing the gameinfo.txt, I tried moving the file to the hl2 folder instead of the zps folder, and that helped it start up without crashing, but it crashed after the logo and gave me an error "Unable to load script/surfaceproperties_manifest.txt". Is there any way around this error?
