How to skip the opening 2-3 hours
By Diency
The first 2-3 hours of Starbound are notoriously boring and uneventful. I've seen many players quit starbound before even passing this point simply because of how ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ boring the opening hours are. Luckily, now you can just skip all of it using a little commands.

Setting up a character
First of all, customize your character to however you'd like. It's all just cosmetic, anyways, so it doesn't really matter.

Next, make sure you check the box titled "skip intro sequence" at the bottom. Without it, you'll be stuck in a 5-10 minute unskippable cutscene. Boring!

Also, if you're the type of person who hates waiting, try setting your character to casual. Losing all your stuff sucks and having to hike back only to die on the way there over and over for potentially hours is a huge waste of time. You don't have to, though.
Fixing your ship
Fixing your ship takes absolutley forever, and requires multiple quests, dungeons, and a lot of time. I just want to explore, dammit!
Well that's what this guide is here for.

Open up your chat by pressing the enter key on your keyboard. You will be doing this a lot.

First, type in "/admin" exactly as shown in the quotation marks. This will give you the ability to skip quests!
Next, type "/completequest gaterepair" (this skips the first quest where you have to go to the planet.)

Then, type "/warp instanceworld:outpost" and press e on your teleporter (teleports you to the outpost, the hubworld for the game. Make sure you go to the teleport shop and save the teleporter so you can come back.) Don't teleport back to your ship.

Head to Esther (she's all the way to the right of the outpost) and accept her quest. Then head back to the left and talk to penguin pete (the ship guy next to the penguins, inbetween the teleshop and big dark area) it should pop up "mission obtained." Type "/completequest human_mission1" (skips the erchius mining facility)

Walk back to Esther, and interact with her twice to get the next quest. Type "/completequest outpostclue"

Finally, talk to Esther one more time to accept the first exploration quest.

And, done! You've completed all the quests to get started. And it only took, what, 5 minutes? It would've taken you over twenty times that long if you'd have done it the normal way!
Gearing up
In order to get to the point where you can explore, you're supposed to have crafted a bunch of items and armor to survive. You did not do that if you followed the instructions earlier. Let's get all that loot, the fast way!

First, make sure you're still in admin mode so you can spawn in items.

Then, hit "c" and open your crafting menu.

Craft an inventor's table (right at the top and place it on your ship.

Interact with the inventor's table. DO NOT CLICK UPGRADE!

type "/spawnitem logblock 100" and make sure your mouse is right next to your character. If your mouse is near the edge of the screen, it'll spawn it there.

Craft every crafting station available to you in the non-upgraded inventor's table. This includes: Anvil, Foraging Table, Primitive Furnace, Spinning Wheel, and Wooden Workbench. Once you've done all that place them down inside your ship. You will have to build a "shelf" (like this[vignette.wikia.nocookie.net]) to put down the extra crafting stations.

Head over to the Anvil. Scroll down (or just search) for the: Scouter's Visor, Scouter's Chestguard, and Scouter's Greaves.
Then head on over to the "sword" section of the avil and craft an: Iron Assault Rifle, and Iron Broadsword.

Congrats! You've now got all the gear you'll need to explore the basic planets of Starbound.
Getting fuel and heading out (Optional)
DISCLAIMER: This step is entirley optional. If you would like to experience Starbound normally you can easily just do it the way it was intended. But if you really want to GTFO, here's how.

Normally in Starbound, to escape your starting galaxy you must head to a nearby planet in the galaxy you're currently in (it takes no fuel) and harvest tungsten, before crafting an EPP so you can go to a moon. You then harvest the fuel from the moon and you're off!

But you're impatient, aren't you! Here's how to just get both of those the quick way.

Go to your Anvil, still in Admin mode.

Go to the 'backpack' section and craft a "Breathing EPP."
Slap it on your back and now you can go to moons in the future if you ever need to.

Type "/spawnitem solidfuel 200"
Throw it in your fuel hatch (right next to the captain's chair.)

You can now explore other galaxies! Hooray!
Be aware that fire/ice/radiation planets will still kill you, and you'll need to craft your own protection for those.

Getting the Augments (Optional)
Augments are bits of tech that help you navagite planets much quicker and easier. But getting them is a long and boring process. Here's how to skip it!

Go to the outpost

Head to the scientist, above the plants shop. He'll have a quest.
Accept it, then type "/completequest techscientist1"

Accept his next quest, then type "/completequest techscientist2"

Accept his next quest, then type "/completequest techscientist3"

Accept his next quest, then type "/completequest techscientist4"

Accept his next quest, then type "/completequest techscientist5"

Accept his next quest, then type "/completequest techscientist6"

And you're done! You can now explore planets much faster and more efficiently.
Getting crewmates (Not reccomended until later)
Disclaimer: Not only is this section is totally optional, but it's a little cheat-ey too. If you're going to do this, I'd reccomend spawning in one crewmate per non-hostile village you find, and of the race of that village (Ex: You find a friendly floran village. Spawn in a floran crewmate)
Normally you have to farm quests in villages to get crewmembers which is totally doable, but if you're impatient here's a little bonus for you!

Farming for crewmembers to upgrade your ship sucks, so as a bonus section here's how to do that as well!

Type /spawnnpc [race] [type] [level]

Races:
"human"
"avian"
"floran"
"apex"
"hylotl"
"glitch"
"novakid"

Types of crewmembers:
Soldier: "crewmember"
Outlaw: "crewmemberoutlaw"
Medic: "crewmembermedic"
Engineer: "crewmemberengineer"
Mechanic:"crewmembermechanic"
Chemist: "crewmemberchemistyellow" OR "crewmemberchemistorange" OR "crewmemberchemistblue" OR "crewmemberchemistgreen"
Different colors give different effects! Yellow = glowing, Orange = damage boost, Blue = jump boost, Green = speed.
Janitor: "crewmemberjanitor"
Tailor: "crewmembertailor"

Levels: levels can be a number from 1 to 6. This stat honestly doesn't matter because crewmates scale to your level. Just set it to 1.
Dont forget to turn off /Admin!
If you've been following this guide properly you will have been in Admin mode. In this mode you take no damage, have infinite energy, never get hungry if you're playing on normal and are basically unstopabble.

This section is just to remind you to turn it off! Just type "/admin" again and you'll be back to normal
Obligatory outro
Hey! Thanks for reading my guide!

I really hope this helps some of you out, I absolutley HATE the opening hours of this game after playing through them so many times.

If you're new to Starbound you should know that it is, by nature, a slow paced game and while following these steps skips some of the initial tediousness, it still might get to you.
But ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ if there isn't something special about exploring an entire planet stealing all the loot for yourself.

If you're getting bored of Starbound, consider installing the fantastic Frackin universe mod by Sayter, it basically doubles the in game content. All the methods used in this guide work there too, but be warned getting into frackin' is really overwhelming for first timers.

Other than that I hope this guide helped, happy exploring!

For those of you that can't see the quickstart button in FU (like me q.q), the command /fuquickstart also works!

@Rtma Eros Paragon
FU actually has a built in skip. Just go /admin, go into your SAIL's misc tab, and press the new button that should be up the top.

Idk the quest IDs but you can skip the crafting sections of the quests by just going into admin mode and spawning them in. You will still have to explore the starting planet until you find the slug guy and the cave needed for the quest, though.
It should also be noted that selecting 'build your own ship' will force you into a longer tutorial that takes way longer (it forces you to do the mining facility + craft more stuff) so if your goal is to start exploring fast as possible choose the default ship.

How to spawn in the items (YOU NEED TO TALK TO THE SLUG GUY FIRST!!!)
Machining table: hit c while in admin mode and click craft on the machining table
Wire: type '/spawnitem wire' while in admin mode
Electromagnet: type '/spawnitem electromagnet' while in admin mode
Note: you need to spawn them in order or it will break the game!

Once you get the items, you have to go into the cave and go through the dungeon. After that, frackin will automatically repair your ship for you. Cool!

What about Frackin Universe and it's Quests?
Truck-kun 21 Apr, 2019 @ 9:59am
Good :) Glad I can easily skip the intro now and still get all the achievements otherwise legit
Diency  [author] 21 Apr, 2019 @ 8:52am
Admin mode does not block achievements!
Truck-kun 21 Apr, 2019 @ 12:11am
Thanks, I hate the intro parts too :c +rate and favorited! But does admin mode block achievements? I've always enjoyed getting them
