Introduction
Ever wondered how to upload your TF2 item to the Gmod workshop? Or have you never thought about it before? Well, this is for you, and it's quite easy to do.
Why you should
You may be asking "Why should I upload my hard work to Garry's Mod?". For starters it gets your item out there to the masses. People will see the item, maybe use the item in some video or image. Maybe even use it in PAC3. Point is, the more people that are exposed to your item, the more likely you'll have more people to vote and even favorite your item. Your workshop page may show off the item, but it's not the same as actually seeing it in person. By doing this you are sure to bring in more views.

"But what if someone steals my item?"
They may try, but as long as you upload your TF2 item in the TF2 workshop first you will always have proof that it was yours. Besides, as the creator of the item, you have the source files, the original files, something they don't and won't have.
Required programs
Uploading to Gmod only requires two programs:
  • Garry's Mod
  • Workshopper v1.0
You are on your own for buying Garry's Mod, however you can get Workshopper here: https://www.dropbox.com/s/bhxanrwm253vioj/workshopper_v1_0.exe?dl=0

You may see guides talking about a newer program. Yes, GMod comes bundled with a newer version, however this newer version of the program was split into two different programs as well as requiring a download of additional files to even use it. Even when you get it running it is far from user friendly and not as easy as the old method.
Getting your files ready
Before you upload, there is a few things you need to do.
Firstly, you need to have the gold star zip on hand. It's the zip file TF2 creates when you upload a Gold Star Verified upload on the Workshop. They can be found in "Team Fortress 2\tf\workshop\import_source"

Now, head on over to the addons folder for Garry's Mod, "GarrysMod\garrysmod\addons" and create a folder named after your set, or if it's a single item after said item

After you have done that, open the gold star zip containing the item you want to upload. You will see two folders. The folder we are after is the "game" folder.

Once you click on that folder you will see a "materials" folder and a "models" folder. Remember that folder I made you create in GMod's addon's directory? Drag both folders into it. Repeat this as many times as needed if you're uploading a set.

You're not done just yet! As we both know TF2 requires a backpack image, however Garry's Mod has no use for these. Delete the "backpack" folder in the "materials" folder. When you're a workshopper every kb counts, so do not waste any of it.

Before you move onto the next section be sure to test your addon ingame. Make sure it works 100%! As a note, Garry's Mod treats non .gma files as Legacy Addons, and you may or may not need an addon to see these.

Uploading your new addon
Remember that tool I linked you to? It's time to put it to use. You can save the tool anywhere, however I prefer to have it in my addons folder.

Once you start it up, hit that "Create Addon" button.

It's going to ask you to put in a name and a description. You can always change the description later.

Now you're going to put in a thumbnail, most likely the same one you used in the TF2 Workshop

Here's where it asks you what folder the addon is in. Remember that addon folder you made? Select it.

Select the tags fitting for your addon. Being TF2, the recommended tags are Model, Fun, and Cartoon. Even if you're uploading a TF2 weapon, do not check the weapon box. By weapons it means scripted weapons that players can actually use.

The uploader will ask if your addon depends on any games. Check the Team Fortress 2 box.

After that hit "Finish" and you're good to go. If it was successful, a browser window will pop up linking directly to your newly uploaded addon. You know what to do from there.
The final touchups
You have your item uploaded, all the pictures, and links to the original TF2 items. Congrats on making it this far, however there's one more thing you need to do; set Required Items. You can do so by clicking the "Add/Remove Required Items" button on the addon's page.

With Required Items, if a person subrscribes to your addon and isn't subscribed to any of these a popup will tell them so. Take a look at my most recent upload as an example.

Here are the items you should set as Required Items.

Always set Easy Bonemerge Tool. To attach the cosmetics to the TF2 class models, this is a must.

Only set Easy Bodygroup Tool if it is required. For example if you need to hide a Pyro's head for the gasmask you uploaded, or Sniper's hat.

This one should be self explanitory, but only set it if the item you're uploading is paintable.

And that's all, good luck on your future endeavors!
