Description
Era - 1990s / 2000s - Boxing - Heavyweight

The only seven foot champion in the history of boxing, and the heaviest champion as well, the Russian Giant, Nikolai Valuev brought unparalleled size into the ring during his reign. Although far from a knockout artist or a skilled technician, and criticized for his plodding approach, Valuev's presence and toughness carried him through enough times to become a multiple time champ.

Valuev mangaed to win his Heavyweight belt against John Ruiz in 2005, defending his title several times until facing Ruslan Chagaev two years later, and losing a majority decision. He would regain the belt a year later in a rematch, before taking on a 46 year old version of Evander Holyfield. Despite his relatively advanced age, Holyfield was seen by most as having won the fight, but the judges did not agree, giving Valuev a controvercial decision victory. Valuev would then meet his match against former Cruiserweight, David Haye, who used his superior speed to gain a victory.
