DROD: Getting help for difficult rooms
By Jagdblume
This is a guide for getting hints and solutions for DROD rooms using the Caravel Forum. This simple guide will show you how to get help for a room, import demos, locate secret rooms and post help topics. All photos and GIFs in this guide were all taken by me. This is also my very first guide so please give constructive feedback after reading!

Introduction
Is there a particular room in DROD that makes you want to pull your hair out? Don't you wish that there was a website to receive hints and solutions for said room? Well you're in luck. The Caravel Forum has the answer to that dreaded room that you hate so much.

In this guide I'll be covering:
- How to use the Caravel Forum to find hints and solutions for a certain room
- How to use the room selector to find secret rooms
- How post a help topic on the hints and solutions board
- How to download and import demos
- The guide in amateur photos and GIFs (see what I did there?)
Things to do before looking for hints
Before searching for hints, there are a few things you should try before going on the forum.
Have you considered:

A particular monster to be the problem than the room itself?
Sometimes it's a particular monster monster that is too frustrating to deal with. Perhaps they're too "annoying" and you just want to complete the room to advance. Instead of looking up what to do, maybe try learning how the certain monster behaves.
For example:
- All snakes (serpents, rattlesnakes, adders) will be forced to move in a straight mine if you position yourself directly behind their head
- Lone wraithwings will NEVER kill you, they will always stay 5 tiles away from you at any time

Figure 1: The trick is to get behind the serpent's head

Figure 2: A lone wraithwing always keeps a distance of 5 tiles from the player

Of course these are just two examples of the many monsters DROD has to offer. The point is that some puzzles are much easier to solve when you know how a certain monster behaves. Knowing these behaviours could be the key to solving the puzzle.

Entering the room from a different position?
There are rooms where every step counts. This may be because of a bomb timer or maybe you need to kill the roach queen before it spawns any eggs. Whatever the case, its always helpful to try the room facing different directions.

Figure 3a and 3b: Your sword's position at the entrance of the room can make the difference between an unsolveable room and an easy kill.
Getting help for a room
The Caravel Forum is a very useful site for all DROD related things. However the forum's most common use is its access to hints and solutions for particular rooms.

Your first step is to type "caravel forum" on a search engine you prefer. Click on "Hints and Solutions"

Alternatively, you can click on "Caravel Forum" and under "DROD Boards" of the home page, click on "Hints and Solutions"

Then, you'll want to click on the "Get help with a room" button on the top of the discussion board
What you want to do now is choose the hold and level that the room is in. On the minimap provided, click on the room that you're stuck on. If help topics appear beside "results" you're in luck. All you need to do is to click on the available help topic(s) and get the hints and solutions you've been searching for.

For example, I chose King Dugan's Dungeon, Level 4, 2 South 1 East. Luckily, there were 4 help topics to choose from. However each room will usually only have one or two help topics.

Getting help for a room when there is no help
Sometimes, a selected room will say that there are no help topics available. If that's the case, you're going to need to make a quick account to post a new help topic. A simple email address and password is all you need.Your post should include the room's location and things you've tried and why those attempts didn't work.

Example help post:
Getting help for a secret room
Sometimes in DROD you'll encounter secret rooms. If you have, you know that they're pretty challenging. If you're a completionist like me, you're forced to find and solve all secret rooms in the hold in order to master it. However if you try looking for a secret room in the hints and solutions board, you'll notice that it's not visible in the room selector. You need to use the "Go North/South/East/West" buttons to access those secret rooms.

For example, in King Dugan's Dungeon there is a secret room at Level 3, 1 North 2 West. You need to click on room 1 North 1 West and click "Go West" once to properly choose the secret room. Then proceed through the help topics normally.
Importing Demos
When you press F6 in-game, you're brought to a screen where demos are stored. Demos are basically replays of rooms that you've previously completed. Whether it's a simple pass through a hallway or a room swarming with roaches, a demo will record. What's great about demos is that you can import them from other players to get a step-by-step replay on how to solve the room.

Like earlier, you want to go to the forum and search for the room you're stuck on. On the help topic(s) sometimes a post will contain an attached demo file. You can click on it to download the demo. (Make sure the poster of the file says that it's a demo of the solution! Some people post demo "attempts" instead of the actual solution.)
Next go to DROD and go to the room the demo corresponds to. Press F6 to open the demo screen and click on "import." The demo file by default is stored in your downloads folder, it should be there unless you saved it somewhere else.
Conclusion
Now you know how to to use the Caravel Forum to get hints and solutions. Isn't it handy? It's helped me dozens of times and still does today. Thanks for reading this guide. I hope you found it helpful or at least somewhat interesting to read. If you did read the whole thing please tell me if there's anything I could've changed, added, or removed from the guide.

I'm planning on making a second guide covering tips and tricks to understanding the different DROD monsters and enemies, so feedback is highly appreciated.

Thanks bub!

If you're incredibly stumped by a certain room and the online help topics aren't helpful, you can email me. I'll be more than happy to send you a demo. I've mastered all of King Dugan's Dungeon,
Journey to Rooted Hold, The City Beneath and Gunthro and the Epic Blunder so demos of any of the rooms in those holds are just an email away.

It's worth adding that you can access the help for a specific room directly from in the game by hitting enter, then clicking the Get Help button.
