MAS-38

An SMG designed during a rearmament program that took place from 1918 to 1924, intended to give new, updated weapons for the French Army. Due to budgetary constraints arising from the cost of building the Maginot Line, most of the weapons designed during this program were not finished and accepted until the 1930s.
The odd appearance of this weapon was due to it's unique receiver layout, whereas the entire receiver was offset by a few degrees, so as to fit the recoil spring in the stock. While this meant removing the stock was impossible and required the bolt head to be offset by a few degrees itself, it made the overall gun very compact, which together with it's light weight, simple but high-quality design and ease of maintenance made the MAS-38 a spectacular weapon.
Sadly, the French Army did not realize the importance of SMGs until the Battle of France and few weapons were produced as a result, most of the production being made for the German Army post-occupation, which used the gun under the designation MP722 (f).
Low production volumes paired with being chambered in an underpowered cartridge produced only in France prevented the MAS-38 from fully showing it's potential, and in the 1950s, all units were replaced with the newer MAT-49 SMGs.

Mauser MG81

A machinegun developed from the MG34, intended as a cheaper model for aircraft mounts to replace the old MG15 guns. It was used as a flexible gun in Luftwaffe aircraft until the end of the war. Towards the end of the war, as 7.92 machineguns were being phased out of airplanes altogether, several examples of the gun were fitted with stocks and bipods to be used in ground combat.
