Introduction
Short introduction into the Devkit Editor and purpose of this ShortGuide.

1) why do I write this ShortGuide?

In creating maps for the private use in unturned I came over a lot of problems and questions in using nice things discovered in other maps.
Some were brilliant ideas (my honest and deep respect to all the genius creators out there) for the standard maps and editor. But for some I knew I had at some point to dive into the more complex Devkit Editor to achieve it.
While trying to get some answers I read a lot in the community. Some great guides and input came along the way, but I became aware that some questions I have are the same for a lot of people and remain unanswered in the threads. So I think I can help some other creators with some posts about solutions I found out along the way.

2) Short Introduction into the Devkit Editor

The Devkit Editor is in some ways much more complicated as the normal editor, but I want to encourage every map creator to just try it out and share their findings also in this community to improve the knowledge about map creating.

First of all the movement with the devkit editor:

In the beginning I was just frustrated because I could not even move around...
[See my other post about it Problem not moving in Devkit Editor ]

Get to know the menues and the necessary windows to work:

mandatory:

Viewport Window (to see the map and work in it)
Inspector Window (to adjust values)
Hierarchy Window (to select the active volume you want to work on)
Landscape Tool (to change the Landscape)
Selection Tool (to select the objects like in the editor with Q,W,E,R (or your respective keyboard keys of choice)
Content Browser (for the core items of the game)
Type Browser (for selection of e.g. EffectVolumes, HoleVolumes, WaterVolumes etc)
Transaction Window (to Redo/Undo)
Asset Browser

Nice to have:

Terminal Window
Layout Window

Make yourself comfortable with the tools and try as much as possible on a Testmap (as a creator you should definitely have one! - I personally have a special map with all the objects possible to have a good look for the usefull things I want to include in a new map).

EffectVolumes
To spice up your map you can use some effects which makes maps more lively. Like in Hawaii there are some toxic areas with nice green toxic smoke. Or in Germany the site in Koeln where the Starship has crashed the fire makes it more lively.

You can add an EffectVolume like a WaterVolume or a HoleVolume to your map by selecting the Type Browser, select the EffectVolume and press "E" to insert it into the map. Then click in the hierarchy window the new Effect_Volume bar. Now you can use Q, W, E, or R to resize and move around.

Now turn your attention to the Inspector Window:
Here under "ID" you can choose the desired effect and adjust the intensity with "Emission"

There are two different effects:

1) Effects to show up once (like when you chop a tree or crush a TV - ID 71 to 149)
2) Effects which are permanent (like the fire or the green toxic smoke)

The second one are the ones of interest for map creating:

ID Effect
120 Red Vertical Smoke
139 Fire
140 Waterfall Fog small
141 Waterfall Fog big
142 Snow Cristal Dust
2000 Green Toxic Clouds

Adjust your effect with the emission value in the Inspector Window.

Enjoy your map!

Help. I don't know if I'm the only one to who this happened but the Devkit became a fucking joke. Not only are the controls different, but the LandScapeHole Volume doesn't work. I can only use the landscape volume which only allows me to raise the ground and not bring it down. When I click on the landscape hole volume nothing fucking happens.

How do you change the time in the editor?
BlueSkies  [author] 24 Nov, 2018 @ 1:09pm
Hi, good question. I had the same problem at first. You can adjust the speed with your mouse wheel. If you cannot move just use the mouse wheel to scroll up and then you can move. Hope that helps
