Japanese Scope Guide
By flowermouth
The Japanese scope may look complicated and hard to use at first, but with this guide you will grow familiar with it and learn to love it!

Introduction
For some, the Japanese scope can be quite hard to get your head around. In Red Orchestra 2 - Heroes of Stalingrad, the scope could be zeroed to a distance using the scroll wheel, with a simple point reticle, but the Japanese scope is different, using markings on the reticle instead of zeroing. With this guide, you should grow familiar with the Japanese reticle or at least learn the basics of gameplay with it.

For any of you that have played Battlefield or ArmA II, the reticles used are very similar to those used on the PSO-1 Scope, Mounted on the SVD Dragunov rifle, but it still has its differences.
The Default Scope
The first scope you will get to use is the Type 97 2.5X Telescopic Scope, this will be the scope of use until you reach level 25 and unlock the Type 99 4x Telescopic Scope.

When you first look at the scope, you will notice a series of lines along the verticle line (this is called elevation) of the rifle scope, every other line has a number written next to it. These lines represent one hundred metres each.

The numbers written on the scope along the verticle line should be multiplied by a hundred to get the distance which the bullet will land at. 1 meaning 100 metres, 6 meaning 600 metres, 12 meaning 1,200 metres and so on and so forth.

The mistake that is common to be made is aiming using the crosshair in the middle of the scope. Do not do this! The middle crosshair represents 300 metres, which will not be common in combat, as most combat is around 50-250 metres.

The first line is equal to 0 metres, and the second is equal to 100 metres, so primarily, you want to be aiming with the second line down.

The space between the lines can be used for targets which are in-between the distances, for example your target is 150 metres away, and you want to get a headshot. Line the scope up so the head is between the 100 metre line and the 200 metre line, you should get a direct headshot.
The Rank 25 and Rank 50 Scope
The second scope you unlock at rank 25, or have by default under purchase of the Deluxe Edition is the Type 99 4x Telescopic Scope, and the third scope is an adjustable 4x Telescopic Scope. (Please note, I have not used the Rank 50 scope so I'm not sure on how it functions, watch this space.)

Not only is it nearly double the magnification, but it has a better, more simplistic reticle than the Type 97 scope.

There are a few differences from the first scope:

Instead of a line representing 0 metres, the top of the verticle line (elevation) represents 0 metres, and the first line represents 100 metres, so once again you will be primarily using the first notch on the scope.

Instead of the markings being either side of the verticle line, they cross over forming easier to use crosshairs.

The first 500 metres aren't marked on the scope. This means that your vision is not obscured by numbers so instead you can focus on your targets.
Windage Markings - Coming Soon!
I've been using the windage markings a lot recently for leading my shots. I'm going to do some in game testing to see if my theories are right before continuing with this section, watch this space!

personally I would like to thank you for your advice. What at first appears so technical, you have broken down in to plain language. I will read your post again until I have it firmly lodged in my struggling brain.
Thanks a lot.
