Introduction
Versus Saxton Hale is becoming more and more popular by the time you read this guide.
You should completly forget what you learnt as a pub Medic when being the Medic in vsh

      • Overheals are not that useful but your Ubercharges are precious
      • You depend on your team more than in any other mode !
      • Dodging and Aiming properly will make you one of the most annoying Manns
      • You get one shot most of the time without having a chance to react

Understand the Medic in vsh

Syringe Gun

      • Your Syringe Gun grants 5% Ubercharge on hit (100% uber if you hit Hale with 20 Needles, 70% (+30% after your Uber) with 14 needles)
      • It also improves your movement speed based on Ubercharge (up to 10%) when you equip it

Crusader's Crossbow

      • Does Critical Hits, 20% extra damage, and grants 10% ubercharge for each successful shot (7 shots = 70% Ubercharge)

Medigun

      • Your Medigun charges 25% faster (1 Uber = 22(44)s to build (starting with 30%))
      • Your ubercharge grants both invulnerability and critical hits and lasts 50% longer
        (18s max)
      • You heal at the Quick-Fix's rate (on some servers)
      • The Medigun has a 25% faster weapon switch (or 50%)
      • You can grant up to +50% health (on some servers)

Abilities

      • You spawn with 40% Ubercharge, after each Ubercharge, you gain 30% Ubercharge automatically
      • Healing a Scout will make you go faster than him
      • If the Soldier that you are healing rocket jumps, you jump with him
      • A Demoman Sticky Jumping grants you a free jump too
      • A Pyro which uses the Flare Gun's explosive jump grants you a free jump too
      • If your Demoman has a charging targe, you can heal him as he charges, you will have a speed boost for the time of that charge
Good Medic Settings
      • Play in 3rd person instead of 1st person (type !tp (to switch to 3rd person) and !fp (to switch to 1st person) in the game chat
(it doesn't work on some servers)

• Make your weapons reload automatically in Advanced Options

• Tick the "Medigun continues healing without holding down fire button" box in Advanced Options
3 Rules for the Medic in vsh

      • Don't be the target and most of all Don't Die !

• Make your best to protect your allies without jeopardising your life

• Try to make the best of every situation as a Support

The best way to play the vsh Medic is to get Ubercharges as fast as possible and use them to counter Rage Kills, protect some important vulnerable targets or make a bunch of damage with a Heavy for instance

An ubercharge (starting from 30%) takes from 22,4s to 44,8s to get ready, the Ubercharge meter fills faster if you heal Buddies under the maximum overheal and injured Buddies, it fills slower if you heal somebody that is already being healed by an other Medic or a Dispenser

On some servers, your overheal will go up to 100% of your Buddy's health meaning that providing a buff will take time allowing you to fill your Ubercharge at full speed most of the time

Keep your distances and try not to be the target, if you are the target try to get away in style and don't hesitate to fight back instead of running away sometimes, be smart and jump on things, block his jump with a Crossbow bolt and wait for him at a corner to deliver a +25% Ubercharge granting painful Ubersaw hit. You may get focused by Hale badly but don't desesperate, this means that you will act like a bait which is not that bad. Bait him into going to Sentry Nests, Sticky Traps and clear the focus for Spies, you will be really useful for your team but it's always better not to die unless there are only Spies, Snipers and Scouts left on your team. Try using your Medigun and your Syringe Gun most of the time and get some Ninja Ubersaw hits instead of going head to head like a Demoknight !

Your Ubercharges build really fast but you switch weapons faster in vsh so don't hesitate to use your Syringe Gun at moments when you feel that Hale is going in a straight line (don't use it all the time though), also use it to get a quick Ubercharge to save a fleeing Buddy or to hope to get an Uber and pop it before Hale kills you as he runs towards you

Hale runs faster than you so try to keep Scouts aive in order to latch on them if Hale gets too personnal. Scouts are like trains, take them to get away from Hale or pursue him in order to save an ally from the deadly punch.
Hale runs faster as he gets hit and he can jump to you in seconds. The best way to counter this is by going in one direction and going the other as he jumps towards you, if you have a Crossbow, try to stay at a Rage Taunt's ditance since you will do a bunch of damage before he notices you

Finally, be a low profile player. The advantage of playing vsh is that you won't need to refill that much player's health (except for some Demomen, Soldiers and Pyros that you will need to heal back to their normal life after they jump). This means : try to show up as little as possible and only when you have your Ubercharge but don't get too far away from your team since Hale mostly kills the lone wolves.
It is nice to overheal players but Ubercharges are your most deadly weapon in vsh, try not to die because you got in too close to provide an overheal
Be Alert !
Know where Hale is by knowing where the choke is and listen to the sound of firing weapons , also look at your Buddies since they will be staring at Hale as soon as they see him. If nobody knows where Hale is, get behind a Pyro, latch on a Scout, get near a Sentry or position so that you see him coming (don't stay in a corner though), you need to have 2 exits surrounding you may want to have 2 escape exits

Try to foresee what can happen when a Buddy dies : is Hale going to go for you ?

You don't have to get in sticky situations as a Medic, just keep healing and use your weapons when you are sure you can get free Ubercharge meter easily Watch the Sky and Watch our Back ! This is even more true in vsh than in another game since Hale nearly has the Scout's speed and can one shot you. You should never stay at the ground floor or near a corner, you need a few seconds to react and pop your Uber

[th][th][th][th][th] [th] [th][th][th][th] [th][th][th][th][th][th][th][th][th][th][th][th][th][th][th][th][th][th][th][th][th][th][th][th][th][th][th][th][th][th][th][th] [th][th][th][th][th][th][th][th][th][th] [th][th][th][th][th][th][th][/th][th][/th][th][/th][th][/th][th][/th]
Spread the love
[previewimg=401245;sizeOriginal,floatLeft;Medic.png][/previewimg]

[th]

[th]

Try to overheal everyone you see as getting an overheal on someone fills your Ubercharge faster than when you only heal one player, in vsh you always have a LOT of players in your team, buffing teammates is really worth it ! What's more an overheal can save a life ! Try to heal (and overheal) players that need a lot of hps : Demoknights, Soldiers, Heavies, Spies (65 damages from Hale if hit while invisible

Play with your team ! Save people with your ubercharges and deal a maximum amount of damage, always keep an ubercharge at hand if Hale tries to kill you

Here are two techniques that can help you survive. If you pop an uber, switch to your melee fast and switch back to your Medigun, Hale will try to hit you and will propel you far away ! Saxton Hale punch throws you as far away as 3 stickies would ! When you heal a Scout, jump, quickly switch to your Syringe Gun and get some shots at Hale then switch back to your Medigun to gain the speed boost. You don't lose speed while you jump, use this !

Don't heal Snipers or heal them when they need it, try to support the fight away from them in order to save them from the deadly punch, don't heal them, it would reveal their position

Save and Overheal

You should learn to prioritize some classes other others when playing the Medic since players will die but you can save some for a hole round in order for them to do massive damage to Hale It's important to know how a team works in vsh. There is generally 1 or 2 groups and players scattered all other the map. Sometimes the Engineer will make the group, sometimes the Medic will, meaning that you can gather people so choose where you stay most of the time wisely

I like to stay with the other Medic since I can gather people, this lets them know they will be saved if Hale approches and they will be able to do a bunch of damage allowing them to get in the top 3

These are the classes you should keep alive at all costs (graduation >)

[th]
Keep alive
[/th]

Medics
(Stay with the other Medic (2 Medics in a vsh team) as long as his ubercharge is not ready and save him when you can)

Heavies
(Excellent Buddies for Kritz charges but it's hard for them to survive without you)

Spies
(2 Spies can deal an enormous amount of damage)

Engineers staying with the main group
(They make the group stronger and bring players together)

And these the classes you should keep overhealed at all times (graduation >)

[th]
Overheal
[/th]

Demoknights
(This can save from 1 Hale punch without the Shield on)

Heavies
(Your best Buddies may survive up to 2 hits !)

Soldiers
(They need health and ammo for their Rocket Jumps)

Pyros
(It can save them from 1 non-critical hit !)

Choosing your Pocket

A Pocket is a player that you will stay with most of the time, trying to keep him alive. Good Pockets will ensure your safety but Bad Pockets will make you only rely on yourself when fighting Hale

[th]
Good Pockets
[/th]

Scouts (you can rely on the speed boost)

Pyros (stay really really close to him and make sure that he knows where Hale is)

Medics with a full charge

Demoman (stay right on his Sticky trap, beware if the Demoman doesn't watch his back)
(don't rely that much on Demoknigts)

Engineers with their Sentries
(Healing an Engineer makes his Sentry Gun deal mini-crits)

Depending on your position and if they like to rocket jump : Soldiers

Warning!!!
You should stick with these Buddies as long as you get your ubercharge ready. When you are fully charged, stick to other Buddies like Heavies if you want to deal massive damage or with Medics, Engineers, Snipers and Spies if you want to give them a second chance if Hale tries to kill them
All others are not good enough to slow down Hale or to get the focus. A Heavy can die really fast to Hale and his knockback isn't good enough to push Hale away from him. Snipers or Spies are the worst choices of Pockets since they really can't protect you at close range and will rather flee instead of fighting back

Make good use of your Ubercharges

Try to get your Ubercharge ready before showing up in the battlefield !

During the setup time, you can raise your Ubercharge from 40% to 60% by overhealing everyone instead of only healing one person

If you ubercharge somebody, try not to flash other teammates, everytime you flash a teammate, you lose 0,5s of your uber. If you stay on the same target all the time, your Ubercharge lasts up to 13 seconds ! Try to find a class with a good loadout and find good "Buddies" (Soldier, Demoman, Heavy)

If Hale tries to get away, either shoot needles at him or retreat since he will be coming back for you. You can save groups of allies by doing so since Hale will attack somewhere else.

[th]
In vsh, there are 2 kinds of Ubercharges
[/th]

Offensive Ubercharges

Defensive Ubercharges

[th]

[th]

[th]

An Offensive Ubercharge is as simple as trying to get the maximum out of your Kritz Charge to kill Hale. Heavies, Demomen, Soldiers and Spies are your best choices since they will deal a lot of damage and they will knock Hale back to the wall ! Spies are great Ubercharge targets in vsh since they can do lucky stabs or skillful matador stabs (strafe stabs). Try to uber 2 spies at a time if possible (1 backstab = -10% of Hale's hp)

A Defensive Ubercharge needs to be popped when Hale rages, to prevent him from killing a teammate (flash him right before he gets hit) or to help allies as they are in their weakest position (Engineer with no Sentry, Sniper focused by Hale, Spy who just stabed Hale (2s before attacking again), Soldier with low hp that can't rocket jump, Pyro without ammo, Medic being focused on by Hale without an Ubercharge at hand...) It is best used with a Sentry nest and allies all around, but try not to stand near Hale if he wants to rage. You are the only player that can prevent multiple teammates from dying from Hale. Try not to lose key classes like a Heavy or an Engineer. Demoknights themselves are really good at taking the aggro (focus) Important !!! Keep Combat classes and Medics alive at all costs (Heavy, Soldier, Demoman, Pyro)

Make sure you use your mike since most of your teammates will be waiting for you to spend all your Ubercharge on them. I Ubercharged a Pyro once because he didn't have enough ammo to continue airblasting Hale, I should have used the mike, but I didn't. The Pyro attacked Hale with his shotgun and when the Uber finished, we both died

When your Uber is at 10%, try to flash a lot of teammates since this won't cost you a lot of your remaining uber. A good thing to know : if you stop healing a teammate, he will keep the Invulnerability effect for 1 second but the Kritz effect will end as soon as you stop healing him

Make good use of an Ubercharge's knockback to save teammates from Hale but don't let these push Hale towards your other teammates

Syringe Gun vs Crossbow

Whatever weapon you choose, remember one thing It is really important that you always have full ammo loaded on both of these weapons. Always have 1 Arrow at hand or 40 Needles loaded !

[previewimg=407191;sizeOriginal,floatLeft;Syringe shot.png][/previewimg]

[th]
The Syringe Gun
[/th]

You don't get additional damage output with the Syringe Gun in vsh but can easily get an ubercharge ready if Hale is running towards you Use it for self-defense only since building an ubercharge with your Medigun is faster than shooting weak needles at Hale (19 seconds)

You can deal up to 175 damages in 2 seconds if you aim properly which isn't that good You will need 2,5 seconds to shoot 14 needles and get your ubercharge and 1 second to switch back to your Medigun and pop, this means that you will need 3,5s to react to a Hale rush if you aim each Needle properly

When you are Ubercharged, try to switch quickly to your Syringe Gun when you can in order to get free Ubercharge meter, then switch back to your Medigun. You can do this quite a lot of time, contrary to the Crossbow that can only shoot one arrow at a time. Remember, only 20 needles shot properly can get your Uber back to 100% !

A last thing to remember is that the Syringe Gun has an Overdose like effect, you can't run faster than Hale's fists but it helps. The Crossbow doesn't grant this effect

Use the Syringe Gun in maps with lots of corners and the Crossbow in maps with open areas

[previewimg=407192;sizeOriginal,floatLeft;Crossbow shot.png][/previewimg]

[th]The Crusader's Crossbow[/th]

Shooting 7 arrows needs 10 seconds so you need 10 seconds to resist to Hale in order to get your Ubercharge... Good luck with that ! The Crossbow is not much of a self-defense tool and it is normally used with the 1hp regen buff, the one that will be useless during vsh matches. Use it more like a weapon that deals crits and that allows to snipe Hale from a long range. One more thing : with the Crossbow you will have enough ammo for a hole vsh game but with the Syringe Gun, you will need to refill constantly which is not considered a good thing when there are Pyros and Soldiers in your team (Rocket Jumps and Airblasts require a lot of ammo)

What I mean is that you need to exploit you weapon's crits knockback. ALWAYS stay on top of something that requires Hale to jump in order to reach you (beware of his melee range when doing so) this will save you many times, make Hale jump as much as possible to get you. Stay as FAR as possible from Hale and don't get the focus (you're quite obvious with your crits arrows), don't push Hale towards allies.

A Sniper Rifle with a full charged crit shot deals up to 496 damage as your Crossbow deals 136 - 202 - 270 damage according to the distance between you and Hale two of your arrows can do as much as a Sniper shot in a lesser time and you have better chances to save yourself (thanks to the Ubercharge) than a Sniper

Be sure to use the Ubersaw when having the Crossbow since the Crossbow and Ubersaw combo works better than the Crossbow only. When you are Ubercharged, you can quickly switch to the Crossbow, shoot and switch back since this gets you 10% of your ubercharge quickly

When you are fully charged, you can sniper Hale from far away, nearly do as much damage as a Sniper would and have a better chance of survival than a Sniper. Learn to airshot Hale to use this weapon at all its extent !

Know when Hale is about to Rage

Your job as a Medic is to heal and overheal teammates, this is really fast in vsh and switching targets doesn't interrupt your charge filling

Hale is about to rage when he suddenly stops moving, got stabbed, is getting pinned down or encounters a Sentry Gun

It is quite useless to ubercharge an Engineer that is tanking his Sentry, try to uber the Engineer if he is far away from his Sentry and he has a good Sentry that is going to be destroyed

Again, don't be the target and don't get too close unless you have an ubercharge, that's my best piece of advice

Tips and Tricks

[th]

[th]

(Pyro) The Third Degree will add 10% ÜberCharge to any Medics healing the player. The 10% is split among multiple Medics

Shooting needles while you are ubercharged will never allow your charge to raise up to 150% again but to 100% instead

Holding your Syringe Gun with 100% Ubercharge will make you slightly slower than Hale if you run straight forwards, use this to run away from him

You can't jump with an Engineer that performs a Sentry jump or with a Sniper that climbs walls with a Buschwaka

A compression Blast will give Hale rage, try not to depend on a Pyro too much

Hale begins the round with the movement rate of a Medic (107%) which increases to that of a Scout (133%) when severely injured

A teammate being healed after an uber can be killed in 2 shots by Hale (just after the uber fades away)

When using your uber, you can switch to an other weapon and come back, it will be as if your uber ended, then, you can switch back to your Medigun in order to get the invulnerability. Hale will hit you as soon as you do this, try this to make him focus you again during an ubercharge

If you pop an uber, switch to your primary or your melee weapon and then get rage taunted by Hale, you can switch to your Medigun, you will be invulnerable since the Ubercharge can't be stopped when Hale taunts

Hide your "I am Fully Charged" voice response by using an other voice response like MEDIC as your charge reaches 100%, try to do it when you switch to your primary too

Your Ubercharge won't fade away slower if you don't heal anybody while you are using it

A player that you keep healing as Hale is about to hit him will have more chances of not dying in one hit

If you are not at full health and ubercharge somebody, you will regenerate very fast (same effects as the quick-fix)

If you ubercharge somebody that is at full health ad you are at full health yourself, you will be granted an overheal

It takes 0,6 seconds to switch to your Medigun and 0,8 seconds for Hale to hit you once so you can actually hit Hale and switch back to your Medigun while invulnerable in order to get a few uber hits at him

Spies are good Ubercharge Buddies but are really bad pockets. If you happen to play with a good Spy, he can backstab Hale as he jumps on you, propelling him far away but Spies are really bad pockets since they can't protect you against Hale as a Pyro or a Soldier would since they need to run away and vanish, this will make them lose their focus and you get all the aggro. Just get your uber ready by pocketing a Pyro or a Scout and Ubercharge Spies as they backstab Hale during your uber.
