Global Map Overview

Maps are the core of the great game Unturned.

Provided by the great stuff and the map editor tools Nelson put into the game, fans create each day a lot of great maps out there. Good map creators discover 2 main challenges:

  • 1) Although it is not possible to make a 1:1 copy of a whole country or all cities in it it is very well possible to provide some known landmarks and the feel of each country with just the range of standard objects the game normally provides, to keep the risk of crashing a game at a min.
  • 2) A good map creator has to balance between using just standard items to keep it easy to play a map without any additional subscriptions (thus sometimes problems) and mods which are fabulous and make the topping on a very creative map.

This guide should give you a starting point if you want to explore the world in Unturned. I tried to include at least one link to each geographic location as a playable, survival-mode map in the workshop. It should also inspire great map creators (existing or to be) to go make some more awesome maps or use great empty maps as a core to build something amazing for all to explore.

My Intention
Because a lot of people are eager to play in their own or in a favourized country
I decided to make a random and non-complete list as a starting point.

My intention is to make players eager to explore and search for more themselves.
And for any (possible) map creators to see some gaps and go create a great new experience ;)
What to Expect
I include just maps I myself tried out. Furthermore with a focus on the status "playable" (survival), not "experimental", WIP or RP (like in the description and from playing). I preferred maps with a lot of likes and/or subscriptions. I also tried to find just one example for each country, but also for a major city or state, if possible.

What NOT to expect
This list is just a random pick by me. It is NOT ment to be complete or an over-all overview.
I do not include non-geographically maps (which there are a lot of highly creative
maps from great map makers by the way, check it out!). Also I focused on the game mode
"survival", not on any other mode. You can search the other modes to your maps or ask the author directly.
I also excluded variations like Fallout, different climate (like inverted colors...)etc.

Use it as a starting point. You can also write me some
links to your map or a favourite of yours in the respective discussions if you want it to be included here.
I will test and consider it and eventually list it here.

As an example for great creativity: This is an empty map with tons of real good ideas. Ideal to start building an adventure. But remember the rules: always ask the owner for permission and name the original author if used.

There are few maps of Asian countries, some with very inspiring and creative buildings. But so far just RP or empty maps. But hey, these empty maps inherit the core for great, fully loaded adventures ;)
Remember: Always ask first for permission and if used name the author of the original map, too!

Here is a list of my own maps, so far just one imaginary island. But two more are to come, one of them is an updated Europe I map on basis of above mentioned "The Europe". If you like to make it happen go visit this map and accept the challenge ;)

Thanks for your comments, guys. I appreciate your input. I will look into it and update if possible. Unfortunately I have momentarily just limited time, also to update my own maps. I also have the Europe I map reworked, but unfortunately due to the upgrade of unturned to the latest technology some cool workshop items do not work and a lot of nice buildings are not available any more, so a lot of work ahead ;)
I'll keep you posted. If you have any ideas, shoot ;)

also good to see some recognition for The Europe. I believe that map was one of the first to take full advantage of the Item Resize tool. A classic for sure.

Theres an Insane sized Japan map i used to love, and theres also a map called The Driftless that is set in the general wisconsin-Michigan-Minnesota area. Not sure if either of them still work, seeing as how Insane sized maps have always been finicky.
