I've rendered something grainy! How can I fix this?
Okay, chances are, if you're inexperienced you've had this issue before. On the right is a render I made of an Engineer, and as you can see, it has grainy shadows on him. But we an easily fix this!
How do I fix this?
In SFM, right click on the viewport of the camera, and select Render Settings. When the menu pops up, make sure Depth of Field is selected, and with the drop down select choose 1024 (override). This will result in no grain, but at a cost of longer rendering times (choosing 512 is recommended if you want the rendering time to be a bit quicker).
Bingo! It worked!
Hopefully if you've done it correctly, the grainy shadows will be removed and be replaced with smoother and better looking shadows. Like the Engineer below. If it hasn't fixed, leave a comment and I'll see what I can do!

Troubleshooting
- Make sure you're looking at the scene through an active scene camera, not the work camera.
- Make sure you've turned off Motion Edit mode (press tab).

This old software isn't getting any further updates, but it seems Valve has future-proofed the software to a degree by allowing for custom values, such as in exporting video. However, it's a shame it doesn't go further than 1024 in DoF; not getting any Dreamworks quality animation anytime soon. Still, it's enough for web content.

This does work, but in my experience it looks almost the same if you use 128, and it loads much faster (it would still be a good idea to switch it to 1024 when exporting, for the best quality)

@Luigifan i believe the best option for videos is to render out an image sequence, then combine those in an editing program (Da Vinci Resolve is free) to make the video. SFM will let you render the audio along side it, and you can combine all of those for the full video.
