Avoid this Campaign story job (Dynabeard Arc)
By Captain Frames
A guide on the probably worst arc in this game. I'm walking you through this entire arc so you don't miss out on anything when rejecting this eyesore of a job :)

WARNING
THIS GUIDE WAS MADE BEFORE THE NEW CAMPAIGN WAS INTRODUCED. THE GUIDE MIGHT BE OUTDATED
Before We Start
Before we start, this entire guide is a SPOILER so if you want to surprise yourself with the following Arc, stop reading now.
The Beginning
In the campaign when you're somewhere around Level 12-14 you will recieve a Build job by the following mail adress: "IT@dynabeard.org"
They talk about them being a startup company and that trhey need a computer for a presentation so therefore they request a build with the following Objectives:
Sounds like a Normal job right? WRONG! Because this job pays you nothing more than just 300$
For comparasion: The Cheapest 980 alone costs 340$.

I tried to build the cheapest PC possible that meets the expectations. (I picked EVGA's 450W B3 PSU because I don't know if 350 will do the trick, also this much power is needed later on)
You will spend at least 830 dollars (850 when taking next day delivery)
Take away the 300$ reward and we still lose at least 530$ on this job!

I accepted this mission hoping big money will come later, like in the one arc where you apparently get scammed but actually receive lots of cash in the end. But this arc is nothing like that, it is the purest form of evil you can expect in something as a PC building Simulator!
The Second Job
After recieving the following mail:
which contains unnecessary random stuff and tells you that you've been signed up to Dynabeard's newsletter against your will (which is illegal) Dynabeard sends you another build request, where they say they actually need two PCs.

The objective is the exact same and so is the payment, but this time you only have 4 days to complete the build.
This means that a 3-5 delivery has a chance of failing and we therefore need at least next day delivery. By building the exact same PC again, we would lose another 850$ from the job.

Once that is done you will recieve another mail, this time they talk about a free Dynabeard trial. The mail also contains some unfunny sarcasm.
The Nightmare (Third Job)
Time passes and you will recieve a third mail, this time you get told one PC should have been better than the other.
so they send one of your builds (I guess it's the second one) back for you to make the following changes to it:
THIS IS AN ABSOLUTE SCAM. You WILL lose 770$ from this job, with the cheapest parts you can pick:
(I only picked an 8gb stick as the pc that comes shipped already has the same 8gb stick, this makes the RAM upgrade cheaper)

Once the third job is completed you will recieve another email. Where you actually unsubscribe from the newsletter and Dynabeard is sad about it, so sad actually they try to deny reality by assuming their newsletter is so good that your unsub was by accident and therefore they pop you right back in.
(I must admit this one made me chuckle)
The Last Job
The fourth and last job comes in. This time the IT Manager who has been sending you these mails. She is now requesting a repair of her home computer.
Surprise, Surprise: it's the upgraded 1080 rig that you've built for the company!

There is no deadline and unlike the other jobs, this one will actually make you profit. The only broken part is the 120mm Mortoni Fan that was included with the case. and you will be paid 250$ which is still nothing to the ~2000$ loss this arc has caused earlier (2455$ if you bought the exact same parts that I did)
Also if you don't have a fan laying around you need to pay at least 20$ (10$ for the fan + 10$ shipping when taking the 3-5 days option) the overall profit therefore is 230$ at most.
Overall this Arc caused a loss of at least 2225$!
Epilogue
Once this hell is done. you will recieve three more mails:
  • The first one comes from Dynabeard's CFO who says that the company has made unauthorized transactions by purchasing and upgrading computers from and at your shop. So all this jobs were not only a huge loss of money, but also fraudulent.

  • The second one that comes from the former IT Supervisor, that gave you all these jobs, telling you that she left Dynabeard, expecting the company will die soon and she now wants to forward you her CV.

  • The very last mail you recieve comes from the newsletter, telling you that you still have a free trial and asking if you ever think of them.

That's it. You've lost almost (if not over) 2k on this Arc that is supposed to be funny but isn't really.
I decided to make this guide because I still am extremely salty and I don't think it's worth the experience. this is why i also included all those mails so you can watch without suffering.

So if you ever see something with Dynabeard in your mails, reject the job and feel happy because you just saved yourself from losing 2 grands :)
Last Words
Thank you for reading this guide, I hope I could help you with it.

Seriously though, this Arc is just beyond me. Who gave it a right of existence.
This was literally my reaction when I finished it

(I'm the guy in the right and the bloke on the left can either be the Dynabeard CEO, The Person that came up with the idea of this stupid Arc and everyone else that likes it in any way.)

I also want to apologize for the following
  • My bad English. - English is not my native language, sorry!
  • Any spelling or typing mistake I made - again, I am sorry!
  • For the bad guide (if it was a bad one) - this was my very first guide and I had no experience whatsover until now, sorry!

Anyways. I'm just going to repeat myself and end this guide, K? Thanks! Okay here we go:

Thank you for reading this guide, I hope I could help you with it.
Cheers,

Is it affected the achievement ? I think yes.

:::...5 GAME DAYS LATER...:::
Finally got around to finishing the experiment. Yeah, the Market doesn't make much of a difference aside fewer final bids (~2 bids) for slightly higher value (~$10).No real bang for buck optimizing it like that (Though, I did make a good chunk of cash from it. Final Score: 1,760 + 1,753 = $3,513. Optimized build won, but not by much that matters.). No less, making 2 used PCs daily is a nice side-profit/discipline to develop.

So, basically my best daily approach with PCBS with PCBay to prepare for this BS is:
Prepare for next work day, workday, purchase PCBay items, make 2 Used PCs (and if no case is available, just buy 1 or 2, and cram them with the spare parts. No major difference. Of course, fill in any blanks for completion.). Have fun.

Just got the Market App, and it's just as I thought. I just crafted a machine optimized for maximum market gain (Used my most expensive used parts that have an upward incline on the Market graphs to within a 5-day estimate (aiming for items closest to the ceiling/crest of the parabola by 5th-day), with some hints from (old) email for additional guidance). I don't know if the whole PC's value increases if it's built out of parts that'll sell much better in 5 days or not (overall bids increase up to +10% expected). Being sold alongside it is a PC made with nothing but the most expensive items in my inventory, regardless market opinion (after building the market-optimized PC, first). Experiment: Will the Market-optimized out-sell the Control PC, a Non-market-optimized top-rate of similar rank? To aid the experiment, and my wallet, both PCs have the same market-opted-GPU. See you in 5-game days.

I haven't gotten the Market app, yet; but I bet we can get much better value from our used PC builds, instead of just focusing on our most expensive/compatible parts. If we really exploit/follow the market, and and build PCs with the brands/types listed as best value (Timing the sales for maximum value, being the trick) we can get a bit more than usual, I think. I need to actually understand the app and the market mechanics better before I find something that works. But I think I can squeeze a little bit more income if it works how I think it does; though it seems kinda tedious to do for an extra buck. We'll see.
[DFC] Itnetlolor 31 Jan, 2022 @ 6:21pm
I think I would generally allow forgiveness on a new CPU/GPU being the finisher, if missing either component (CPU or GPU is the only new part used), since I think the 3DMark score is also an influence to resale prices. And since I noticed benchmarking, and then 3DMarking also improves Rigg's prices in the IT-Expansion, I think it somewhat applies to PCBay, too. I've yet to see how much CPU/GPU overclocking further influences value, first-hand.

A good tip to keep PCBay useful: Only build low-end PCs if you're junking excess old crap in your used inventory (Do you really need all those Celerons?). At least earn a more decent buck from them. That aside, always build with the best/top-of-the-(used)-line in your inventory, only using new parts where it makes sense (cheap completion on a modest 3DMark score). And sell at least 1 PC a day, since you collect the maximum bids on the 5th day. Always buy PCs. Pre-mades are basically loot-boxes of used parts, or a free office PC upgrade.
[DFC] Itnetlolor 31 Jan, 2022 @ 5:57pm
What I generally do is I buy everything under the sun from PCBay, and basically chop everything up that comes from there (broken and functional PCs alike), and add to my 'used items' stockpile, while shelving the empty cases in the cupboard, and then sell the broken stuff, and keep buying the new stuff for the clients in most cases.

My process for the daily grind goes: (Begin/Finish) Workday, Prepare for the next workday, buying all relevant parts for the jobs. PC-Builds can be done same-day, if needed. With leftover funds, buy all PCBuild items on sale. And of course, craft 2 PCs using mostly used parts and sell them (2 sold daily w/ 5-day delay). New parts can be used to finish a build if low on used parts.

Haven't really considered removing client parts, though.

How do you exactly use PCBay? Do you just buy parts there and buy rest from the store, or do you use the trick with removing clients parts?
[DFC] Itnetlolor 25 Jan, 2022 @ 8:45pm
My next challenge is getting to $1,000,000 at top speed, via PCBay mainly. Since I have a level or 2 to go before this, I might be more than prepared in short order. Good way to go about that is making 2 PCs/Day for PCBay (Working with the 5-day delay to make a daily income. Rigg's (IT Expansion) works differently from PCBay.). Get enough of a profit to custom-build 2x S-class (to current-level limits) computers on a daily basis, and make a fortune in no time. I'm currently selling at $2500 each, Selling 2x/day = +$5000/day, 1000000/5000 = 200 days. I'm only getting started. I start to (inevitably) sell for higher, this method can shorten the time to as low as 70 days to reach a million (from $0); possibly less. Unless it's possible to sell for $10000+/each, then maybe 50-day range to make a million. Still tedious, but it's so much better than 200 days of this crap
[DFC] Itnetlolor 25 Jan, 2022 @ 8:45pm
Well, it can't be a proper simulator without a sufficiently crap day or two to put the player through; e.g. flight simulators and sudden fuel loss. In this story arc: you get scammed a fair sum. I think it was designed to be as unpleasant/obnoxious as possible to also simulate such an unpleasant encounter. Kinda reminds me of an old saying: "Be prepared."

In this case: Be more financially prepared before taking on this task. In a way, I think this is to encourage making PCs for PCBay to get better prepared ahead of time. I mean, I'm just a few levels shy of when you did this arc; and my bank is going to look nice by the time I meet this nightmare. That is, despite having had a $3000 overdraft (by mainly getting the cupboard (PC Case overload), and missions expenses + PCBay purchases. ...And also because I wanted to get the achievements for going broke along the way, too; and getting out of that debt, as well (successfully). I mean, why not?).

The job was fixed. Now you get an adequate payment, even if it gets a bit tight sometimes it never goes into the red. All new parts, of course. :vcdsign:
