Why exactly Akumu mode is disappointing.
If you manage to beat Akumu you get the basic New Game+ rewards: The Magnum, The Brass Knuckles and 80.000 Green Gel (On nightmare 60.000). So the point is you get nothing for beating the hardest difficulty no secret cutscenes, no achievement NOTHING.
On top of that Akumu in TEW2 is the same as other difficulties except you are 1 hit. Let me explain.

In TEW Akumu changed a lot of aspects in the game. Some enemies spawned earlier, they added a lot of bear trap where they didn't belong, a lot of enemies had iron/ceramic face plates so you can't oneshot them, bombs were very hard to defuse, common enemies spawned in other places too and they were increased in number etc.....

In TEW2 no changes were made about the enemy spawns or numbers it's the same as nightmare's. What they changed from nightmare? Slightly more supplies and ammo and those skills which help you survive lethal damage does not work.

In TEW Akumu whas a unique difficulty it changed how you played the game. In this case, it's just another difficulty.

Also the mode is pretty much rage inducing, i don't think that TEW2 was meant to have Akumu mode.

The Spawns (the 2 headed dog like creatures) are very hard to kill and if you don't stun them they just jump at you even from a relatively far distance. The Lament is pretty annoying too because it needs 2 stealth kills and after 1 she will spawn in enemies and will drain your stamina and shoot acid at you which kills you instantly, i advice stealth killing her once then shooting her with a sniper or explosive/normal agony bolts to prevent her from spitting acid. The Harbringers are super duper hard to kill, unless you have the stealth killing smoke bolts, you won't kill them. They have a sh*tton of health and they turn around randomly so good luck stealth killing them, don't bother with that just use the smoke bolts. And The Disciples (the fire enemies). OHH boy if you kill them while they are on fire they will explode and spit fire in a close proximity and it will kill you, also if you kill them and their bodies are on fire, the falling corpse will kill you so attack them from a distance or stealth kill them.

The boss fights are not that hard i think Myra is the hardest. Stefano is pretty challenging too but if you are able to dodge his attack he is pretty easy. Theodore is the easiest, and well O'neil is just a harbringer so he is a c*nt.
Now onto some gameplay advices.
Most important skills and why you need them:

1. Ambush:
The most useful skill in the game you can pretty much facestab everything if you use it correctly which is easy, totally needed.

2. Bottle Break:
It pretty much saves you from death, because if they grab you...you die (because you are 1 hit kill) but this skill actually works so as long as you have bottles you are safe as cookie from grabs.

3. Reflexes:
Well if you are lucky you won't die, because this skill lets you dodge attacks with a 20% and then 30% chance. It does not sound much but you can afford these anyway and i can prove it, it is useful as f*ck.

4. Any stamina/stamina recovery/crouch speed/quiter footsteps skill:
Pretty self explanatory

5. Predator:
The thing that you can run up to enemies and stealth kill them sounds good but it is not that useful. You'll use the Ambush skill or you'll just simply walk behind them, they don't turn around a lot.

6. Bullet Cascade:
It is surprisingly effective, very useful at the fire wall section and you can pretty much oneshot enemies worth the 20.000 brain goop.

7. Shooting Gallery:
I don't think that you can actually get 75.000 green gel and upgrade up all the necessary skills but if you manage get it.
Gameplay and chapter or situational tips.
Explore everything, you'll need all the supplies you can find in order to survive. Kill all the enemies upto Ch.11, after that you can pretty much save time because Ch.12 sucks ass and has no supply value, Ch.14 has a f*ckton of enemies which you dont have to kill, also you have already collected enough supplies/ammo to fight Theodor Wallace and Myra.

Ch.3:
Explore the town and LEAVE ANIMA FOR THE LAST. If you don't interact with The Woman's Journal Anima won't spawn so you can visit those places, where Anima spawns, without risk.

In the Marrow while going to City Hall:
Kill all the lying Lost (they will wake up) before going to the huge metal door. It will reduce the number of Lost in the fight.

Ch.5:
Kill The Guardian, the area she is in contains a lot of supplies from pistol ammo to sniper bullets and gears and gunpowder etc... After you got all the supplies in front, go to the left side of the building so you can shoot the red barrels which will explode and make a passage. You can find even more supplies there.

Ch.6/7:
Help Sykes survive and do the side missions for him. He will open the closed Mobius crates, which contains ammo, gears and other stuff and even weapons. Also get the key from the fallen Mobius member and open the warehouse.

Ch.11:
After killing O'Neil, get the stealth killing smoke bolt upgrade so you can kill the Harbringers without wasting ammo and dying. You need to kill them because you need the flamethrower. Help Sykes again so he can exit stem and you get The Double Barrel Shotgun and some ammo and a project slide. Also the Mobius crates which you looted earlier, are fully stocked again so you can open them again.

Ch.14:
Before going to the Sanctuary Hotel, get the Bullet Cascade skill. You will be able to oneshot enemies with greater success. Before the boss fight with Theodore, he is trying to stop you with hordes of enemies. Just go to the lever in the first section and ignore the Harbringer and only kill enemies if necessary. In the second section just kill the Harbringer and the Lost and then use the level and rush through the place. In the boss fight, stun Laura with the flamethrower and turn the 2 valves. Then lure her to the huge pipes in the middle and stun her twice and burn her twice with the flames.

In the Myra boss fight:
Use the flamethrower to kill the small spiders, but be aware while they are burning don't touch them because the fire will kill you, so keep your distance. When Myra shoots out two big balls which contains spiders, shoot them before they can hatch, so you don't have to worry about the spiders again.
My stats.
Gameplay time: 12 hours.
Deaths: 88+.

Skill issue. It's not that hard, like fr. But yes I totally agree with you regarding TWE 1 Akumu difficultly. It's much better than TWE 2's.

Such things are bound to happen when you change the people who worked on the game. Truly a misfortune.

Glad I read this before I tried it. Only beat Nightmare last night, but in 1st person. Don't think I'll try Akumu if it's just a One Hit Kill mode with high level enemies and more pickups. If it gave us something like the RPG from EW1 or, as you said, a secret cut scene like where Sykes is if you help him, I would have accepted it. Shame too, cause these reward the most skilled players of the game, especially people who heavily use stealth, like myself. Good guide, mate, just don't play it on 1st person with the letterbox... The challenge isn't worth it.

Besides the weapon wielding haunted (smg shotgun), it was pretty hard but manageable. Not everybody can beat Akumu and it was way better in EW.

"I don't think EW2 was meant for Akumu"

It wasn't exactly well balanced in EW1 either, Akumu mode is garbage.
