Advanced Duplicator
By Twelve-Oh-One Alarm
This guide is going to teach you the basics of Advanced Duplicator because a lot of servers will hate you for using the normal duplicator.

Introduction to Advanced Duplicator
Adv Dupe, or Advanced Duplicator, is a tool that allows you to save and store your contraptions onto your harddrive for later use. It also allows you to duplicate stuff you already have and paste them almost immediately without lagging the server (which the normal duplicator does).

Advanced Duplicator has been released by WireTeam (the creators) on workshop!
Click me to go to the Workshop Subscription page!

Acquiring Advanced Duplicator
Firstly, you should check this out[www.wiremod.com], but you can skip it if you want to.

Now, you may not know what SVN is because it's not used as much with the introduction of the Steam Workshop. But it works flawlessly still and it's sad that it's not used as much as it should be.
SVN allows you to update addons without having to redownload the entire addon (unlike the Steam Workshop). Very useful for larger addons such as Wiremod, but that's a completely different story.

You can acquire Tortoise SVN here.[tortoisesvn.net]
Install it as any other software and continue here once you're done.

You installed it? Good! Now, navigate to this:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\SteamApps\common\GarrysMod\garrysmod\addons
Create a new folder called "AdvDupe1" (since there is also a 2, but that's a different guide) and right click that folder. You should now be seeing this: (click to enlarge)

Now you click "SVN Checkout" (highlighted in the picture above) and this should appear:

Make sure the highlighted link is correct! (https://github.com/wiremod/AdvDuplicator/trunk)
Click "OK". You will get this:

Click "OK" again, and you're done! You have succesfully installed Adv Dupe.
Using Advanced Duplicator
Now that you've succesfully installed it, you will be seeing this new tool in your tool menu:

As you can see, I already have quite a bunch of dupes laying around, not to mention trash.txt.

Now, using it is very simple. Refer to the image above everytime an image is mentioned or you don't know where I'm talking about.

Create your contraption, remember to constraint everything together as Adv Dupe only selects constrianted props/entities of the master-prop (the prop you duped). No-colliding 2 objects will also count as a constraint, just a tip. Right click your contraption with the Adv Dupe tool, and it will begin to 'ghost' the creation. This is so you can see it before you paste it. If you left click, it will paste the contraption. Depending on it's size (prop/entity count), this can take up to 1 minute. My tower (sky22) is 502 props and takes 30-40 seconds to paste.

Now for saving your contraption. There is a public folder, ignore that for now.
You want to look at the first button, the Save to server button. This saves your contraption on the server's harddrive (assuming you're on a server and not singleplayer) in your very own special little corner of it so no one can just take it (unless they have access to the server files of cource). Your file should now show up in the menu as whatever you named it as.

Now for downloading your contraption from the server's harddrive to your harddrive.
Very simply click the "Open upload/download menu" The top menu is the files on the server, the lower menu is the files you have on your harddrive. Click on your named contraption on the server and choose Download Seleted File To upload, simply do the same except choose from your harddrive and select Upload file to server

Now for the public folder mentioned earlier.
If you save your contraption in this folder, everyone on the server you uploaded it in will be able to paste it and download it for themselves to use. Be aware you should never upload anything you don't want to share with everyone in the public folder. Dupe thieves exist. You can always delete it again, or ask an admin to delete it. However, deleting it will not delete it from whoever may have downloaded it's harddrive. Again, be aware of this. There are also a few guidelines you should follow when uploading in the public folder:
  • Don't name it asdf or lulz.
  • If you upload multiple files, organize them in folders.
  • Try not to upload the same file several times in different versions.

All that said, there are a few options when pasting your contraption such as pasting it at the original location(map-specific) or just the original angles. Very useful for when you wish to continue building on an already saved contraption as it will allign correct instead of being 2 degrees off.

Now go out there and duplicate some contraptions like a real gmodder!

Put it in your data/advdupe folder. I'm not sure specifically what the folder is called but it's something similar to that, I havn't used this in ages.

This is a friend of mine's building and I was wondering if there was a way to save it to my folder so that I can spawn it whenever I play DarkRP. http://pastebin.com/VSAQUsFH
