I played Bard Tale 1 on the Atari ST at college in 1988-89. A mate then had Bard's Tale 2 on the PC. He managed to get to a room that posed a question of "is it better to burn out or fade away?" Having watched Highlander we both said "Burn out!" and were jumped by a Flaming creature called a burner!
Then I found that certain room in Harkyn's castle, where the statue of the Mad God is, and is guarded by 396 Beserkers. I told him and he didn't believe me until I showed him. The only way I could beat them was with a Wind Dragon heading the party and pray it breathed before the berserkers killed him!... the 59000+XP for beating them was very pleasing though!

When i played it back in the 90s, I was a big fan of the Dragonlance books and the Krynn setting for D&D, so all my characters had names from DL, which i have repeated with my new version. Instead of deciding which class to go without, i just resigned myself to having 9 and then rotate them, making them sit the bench 2 or 3 at a time.

Gilthanis - Monk - Human
Riverwind - Hunter - Half-Orc
Tika - Bard - Half-Elf
