Welcome to Regional Settlements & Colonization for Attila!

Have you ever wondered why the city of Carthage looked like a small fishing village with longships, thatched roof huts and statues of Odin after being occupied by the Vandals for a few years? Or how the Ostrogoths managed to do the same when occupying Mediolanum? Or how the Sassanids were able to demolish every Roman-style building in Antioch and Alexandria within a year and replace it with mudbrick houses? Did that break your immersion during your last playthrough? Then this mod is for you!

This mod makes it so that the layout of a settlement is only determined by its position on the campaign map and not by the culture of the occupying faction. That way Barbarians occupying former Roman land will have Roman settlements and Roman-occupied Sassanid towns will look Eastern. The only exception to this rule are Barbarian settlements which can still be converted by Romans and Eastern cultures (see: "Colonization" further below).

A full map of which settlements have which layout can be found in the screenshots above.

And the best thing about this mod is that it is fully save game compatible and works with many of the major overhauls including Radious (see full list below)!

Colonization

In this version of the mod Roman and Eastern factions can once again colonize Barbarian settlements by converting and upgrading the culture specific main settlement building (as in Vanilla). A lot of players had requested that I re-enable this feature to allow them to bring Roman culture to Barbarian lands by romanizing them.

If you prefer that all Barbarian towns stay Barbarian regardless of their owner, please use this version of the mod instead.

Compatibility:

This mods works by changing the "tile_upgrades.xml" file in the "terrain/tiles/battle/" folder. I have checked the database files of the following mods for compatibility:

Now that I've looked into it, I don't see a problem with how the mod handles barbarian cities so Eblana must just be bizarrely set to a Roman region in the code, which means even though Eblana is inhabited by Celtics, the game "thinks" it should look like a Roman city thanks to the mod.

I'm also having issues where several Barbarian cities like Eblana are also western Roman for some reason. Shame, this would have been a nice mod.

Thanks for the mod. For some reason, Dimmidi belongs to the Western Roman type of cities (Sahara region).

Does it need an update?

Compat with Roman Rebirth?

Thanks! This is a really great mod! However I'm seeing that level 3 major barbarian settlements in Roman territory show minor walled cities in battle, with the shorter walls, instead of high walls like that of Rome. Is this working as indended or am I missing something?

@anisvara it is simple, "Armenia" mod the startpos and every mod changing something in the startpos is not compatible. Unless you'll do on your own...

@TheOneWhoKnocks Radious just updated its Radious Total War Mod. Is this mod compatible with it still? Thank you in advance!
