The little secrets of the Kogake(possibly outdated).
By Fancyneer
I've seen a lot of people saying that the Kogake is near useless and statements in which it is described as a fooling around weapon. Hopefully after reading this guide, you too can enjoy the Kogake as much as I do and that those statements are silenced(Since Damage 2.0 arrived, this guide is most likely outdated).

To set things straight.
I am in no way implying that the Kogake is 'the ultimate melee weapon', as its effectiveness is only more apparent against Grineer. What I'm saying is that it can be used in very devastating ways if you know how to. Let's get to those tips then, shall we?
'Easy moding' tough opponents.
The Kogake, much like the Kestrel, has the ability to ragdollise their target on a charge attack. Though this feature might not seem like much if you don't know how to use it properly. You see, the further you are from your target, the greater the force they will be launched in during the initial impact. So if you're close to the enemy and execute a charge attack on them, they will just topple down, but if you're a short-ish distance away, they will soar through the sky like the very glorified bald eagle of 'Murica. It is a bit tricky to find the exact length of which this little 'feature' will take effect, but I believe it is somewhere near half of an in-game meter.

To give a better example here are some pictures I whipped up:

The range can be increased with Reach mods, resulting in even greater distance.

To utilise this feature into something useful, the ragdoll has to enter a "deadzone" of the map. These deadzones are the bottomless pits and very tight areas in the map aesthetics. Any enemy that can be ragdollised, can be put into these deadzones. This includes several bosses(The Jackal, Hyena Lech Kril and the new Cpt. Vor can't be ragdollised. I am not sure about the Stalker). And coincidentally, every boss area is bound to have at least one deadzone you can use to kick them into. But don't worry, the loot that the boss drops is placed on where they were last stading before being kicked.

Alternatively, if there are no deadzones present, you can make one yourself by just standing over the ragdolled body. This severly confuses the enemy, causing them to have a heart attack(this kills the mook).
Drop a train on them!
There's no indication whether or not this 'feature' is going to get patched, but use it while it's still there. That is, if you manage to pull it off. When you ragdollise an enemy, immidietly execute a jump attack in their vicinity. This for some reason deals ridiculous amounts of damage, often killing them instantly. The enemy has to be in a ragdolled state and you have to be very close to them since the range of the jump attack is minimal.
Superman's fist.
The wall attack also does huge amounts of damage to the enemy if it hits. We're looking at something around a 1000 points.

You also look like Superman when doing it.
Fists of Fury.
With the right mods, the Kogake can give you the ability to become Ken from the anime movie Fist of the North Star. And these bad boys even ignore armor and stagger Grineer with every normal hit. So fan that hammer, cowboy and you'll be clobbering basically everything in your way. And there's nothing they can do to stop you.

Especially if you're playing as Rhino.

The mods which give you this kind of level of fisting capabilities are Fury, Organ Shatter and the possible Pressure Point and True Steel.
Have fun!
I hope this guide has made you see the Kogake differently. As you can see, it isn't just a pair of fancy brass knucles. Maybe you might use this weapon, maybe you wont. But now you know what it is capable of.
The Obex.
Kogake now has a cousin, Obex. They're more blocky in shape and work as a makeshift flashlight.

(Just look at them.)

They function in a similar manner as the Kogake, but what really sets them apart is their ground slam. While the Kogake has a relatively small slam radius with a knockback capability, Obex creates a wave of electricity with a range of 6 in-game meters. You can probably guess that it's quite effective against Corpus mooks. This slam also stuns non-shielded mooks(sometimes even the Grineer, but don't rely on it happening that often due to their shock resistance).

Likewise:

These knuckle extenders can be used to easy mode tough opponents similar to the Kogake, and they even have a pretty effect when doing so.

Now go punch some bad guys in the groin(or hug them, both work)!

I'm going to add a section about the Obex after I've had some first-hand experience with it myself.

Obex does less damage on normal attacks but I think the charge damage is much higher. I've been having fun with Kogake, I don't think it's useless at all. Just fits a different play style.

Dunno if any mentioned this, but max crit chance, crit dmg, pressure point, and invisibility = red crits for 500+ dmg. On regular melee attacks... Truely you become the Hokuto no Shin Ken
