Introduction
I know why you are here, Tripwire made a game you though was awesome right? Until you played the singleplayer that is. Even with the hundreds of hours dumped into multiplayer and the successful completion of the German campaign you still get dizzy from the grueling multiple attempts at this level and cannot get past this ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ level.

Spartanovka is a cavalcade of all the worst that Tripwire can offer; it is a level in which every bad decision, every faulty bot behvaiour, every malfunction, crash, and every instance of gameplay is combined into a katamari of sadness; Tripwire really outdid themselves by creating a singleplayer campaign that gives new meaning to the term "tacked on". They further compounded this abortion of level design by adding achivements players can earn!

Then they reset them, and then they duplicated the achivements, finally placing the achivements on another ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ install, while leaving them on the multiplayer part of the game. It is enough to break a lesser player. No doubt you are reading this because you are frustrated, sad, hungry, and desperate.

Fear not fellow traveller, with this guide the words Spartanovka will never again bring shame to your visage. No! You will conquer this wretched summit on this mountain of pixels, spite, and bots not doing what the ♥♥♥♥ they're supposed to be doing.

Layout, objectives, and Spawning.
Map Name: Spartnovka, Soviet Campaign Mission #1

Objective: Hold out for 3 Minutes against attacking german forces

Personel: You have 11 additional squad members: a mix of elite riflemen, assualt, a machinegunner, and standard riflemen with mosin-nagats.

You will spawn as a Elite Rifleman weilding a STV-40 Semi Automatic Rifle.

The Map: There are 4 Sections to the map, if you have played the German campaign you will have played this already as the attacker, and as the defender. The layout is similar to the first German mission after training, except you will be playing the defenders.

If you are unable to hold a section, (as in the german's capture it by having more men in the area than you) you will be teleported and respawned at the next defensive positon and the counter will start again.

The 4 Sections:

(A)-Church
(B)-Housing Block A (The First Housing Block)
(C)-Housing Block B (the second)
(D)-The Town Hall

Strategy:

The Church will offer you the best defensive position, the second best would be the town hall. At the elite difficulty level the enemy bots will have near perfect aim while running, so it is imperative to not stay out in the open and to not attack the enemy when they have an entrenched position. As they can be facing away from you and still head shot you, while running, while weilding binoculars.

However, the Enemy AI ESP will not kick in all the time; no you will be treated to the finest examples how not to code bots. To illustrate with one example; you will see a rifleman run at you, run around you and not fire while you are able to riddle him with bullets. Other times you will see a machinegunner in the distance sprinting and firing, taking out all your squadmates with headshots and then finish you off with his ♥♥♥♥, from 200 meters away (your death too was a headshot).

Your allies, the other bots on your team, are beyond useless. When they are failing to kill the enemy, they are also failing to capture points truly an AI a man can count on. They do not reinforce if you are defending and they have a tendency of not straying away from critical capture points, not following orders you give them. Some of their hobbies include running out into the open and into machinegun fire.

SO you will need to defend the church, the first area in the map, for three minutes, while the enemy AI is full of running and gunning 100% accuracy Uber Nazis; while you have the AI of a tiger toy helping you and the enemy.

What you need to do for 3 minutes:

1. Stay Alive
2. Minimize casualties
3. Kill Nazis
4. Keep the nazi's from taking the church

I did and so can you!
The Church
Why the Church, Why not the Town Hall?

The Church is magic, I'll tell you why later. The town hall, while having a larger space and more sightlines is flawed in several ways.

1. Multiple Enterences: The Nazi troops will enter through any possible entry and have multiple paths towards the building.

In the town hall you will not able to cover every single entry, and path to the building, the bot AI for somereason decides to step up their game and diversify their entry options. Even if you are on the second floor, and get a lucky machinegun spawn, you will most likely get pistol whipped by a german the by passed your tiny force and ran upstairs unopposed.

2. Unable to aim your ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ gun downwards: If you haven't been attacked upstairs, but notice enemies milling around the base of the building you will quickly realize that you cannot shoot downwards at all. The germans will continue milling around the base of the building, generally around the destroyed tank and truck. You will not able able to kill them without exposing yourself to enemy LMG and sniper fire (Pro Tip! now is a good time to recall what I said earlier about running and gunning MG bots with perfect aim).

3. Generous Cap Zone: The Town Hall can be capped by the enemy without anyone setting foot within its chic soviet art deco interiors.

Give up on trying to defend the town hall, the dream is dead.

The Church should be your focus, remeber what comrade Stalin said "No more retreating","Not a step back", "Stay black homie" and so on.

The Church: Why its Awesome

1. Jesus Saves: Unlike the other sections, the artillery that regularly pounds every sector, falls on friend and foe alike. If you are able to position yourself correctly and get all your allies to follow you, they will not stand right in the stirke zone and right off the bat you save yourself from an early defeat.

2. The Power of Christ Compels You: The Nazi's line up all nice for you ping with your SVT-40 right off the bat, if you know where the spawn is you can take out 15 of them easily within the first 10 seconds of the mission (This is not strictly neccessary but it is a nice bonus).

3. Oh lawd: Its not the Town Hall, it is dimetrically opposite a small building with a capzone the one is able to defend and two paths with the Nazis come at you like lemmings. Also if a machine gun spawns here (sometimes it can happen) you will be able to gun down the enemy as they spawn.

4. It has the wall: More on this bellow

The guide part of the guide- The Church outer NE corner wall.
Heres the relevant part of the guide (Finally!) you need to get into a corner and kill nazis.

You will spawn on what I call the south side of the church, the north side is the enemy spawn. Immediatelly go towards the door of the church. You can go around or go through the church to pick up ammo, it doesn't matter.

So do these things:

1. Spawn and run to the church door

2. On the North Side from the door, 5 meters infront of you is a corner wall get behind it. Enemies will come into the cap zone from the south (in front of the church door) and to the West (along the broken wall which you are technically hiding behind).

3. The arty will fall south of you on the church and near the front door, don't worry.

4. Your squad will auto follow you and will stand behind the wall and to the side, all of you will still be in the cap zone and away from the arty (some squad members will be in the church).

5. Look south occasionally, but primairly focus on the west and gun down germans with your SVT-40, ppsh-41 or MP-40 are prefered because you will fighting in close range.

6. You should be able to have a strong defensive positon, something like 12-15 nazis will come at you every 30 seconds. Due to the fact that they are still in manouver behaviour (most not all) they will not attack you right away.

7. If you die respawn at a checkpoint or restart the mission and repeat; there is no point in waiting to respawn as a squad member. You might as well start the attempt with full troops and an SVT-40; better an SVT-40 then the russian roulette (HA! see what I did there) of random squad members.

This may take a few tries, this start is not guaranteed to win you the mission, but after several attempts at this I've found that this is the one that works the best for this map.

Thank you for reading this rough draft, tell me how the mission goes. Best of Luck.

It's true this game is hard, but the hardest part for me is the Russian "defend the grain elevator" mission. Even on Recruit.
