Introduction
This is a very dated guide, in fact it's pretty much obsolete. I'll keep it up as an archive of old information on the multiplayer aspect of the game.

About Sniper: Ghost Warrior
This is a single player or multiplayer first person shooter based on Snipers!

The most realistic sniping experience in a video game ever, right down to managing your breathing for increased accuracy of sniper shots. The backstory of the game takes you to a remote area where you take on a hostile force as a solo sniper in single player mode.

"When the democratic government of Isla Trueno is overthrown, an aggressive and hostile military command rises to power. A highly trained special ops unit is sent in to help the rebels accomplish objectives that only a sniper can handle."

The multiplayer side of the game allows you to test your sniping skills in vast areas against other players in a free-for-all or team-versus-team format. This game concept is highly enjoyable in LAN party scenarios or on private servers against your friends.
Multiplayer Achievements
When I purchased Sniper:Ghost Warrior, I went right into multiplayer mode. In fact, I haven't played it in single player to date. So I really don't have anything in this guide that will help you complete achievements specific to single player mode.

The multiplayer achievements are for the most part "kill counters" that stop once you get to a certain amount of kills, or kills with a specific weapon. The only exception is Laurel Wreath, which merely requires you to win fifty games. Unfortunately, no multiplayer achievements exist for knife kills in this game. The multiplayer achievements are detailed in the screenshot below, and are fairly straightforward on what is needed to acquire them.

I managed to unlock Supplier of Death, the 5th and final multiplayer achievement I needed for Sniper:Ghost Warrior with only 64 hours logged on December 1st, 2010.

* Since they took down the multiplayer servers, these achievements are no longer obtainable. *

UPDATE: A few years later, I actually got around to completing the achievements for the solo player campaign on November 26th, 2023. I won't be doing a solo guide on this game, mostly because the game is now dated and very few play it. There are other solo guides on Steam if you need them.
Ghosting with a Knife
The combat knife initially had been a one hit kill weapon. This made running up to an oppoenent and stabbing them in the back (or even in their face) a very easy way to get your kills in. Eventually this was changed. Now the knife deals a specific amount of (and significantly less) damage than it used to do. This makes the knife more of a last resort weapon, or in the case that you got a couple shots off on an oppenent, the knife can deal the final amount of damage if you can get in close enough. Don't be the guy that sneaks in behind someone to try to get about 5 strikes with a knife in before they realize you are there and turn around to shoot you in the face.
Hard Core Mode
When I first came to Sniper:Ghost Warrior, there was no hard core mode. After about a year and a lot of requests and complaints on the forums, the developers finally set up hard core servers. The key difference between these new hardcore servers and the normal ones are the absence of red dots on your compass in the upper right hand corner of the screen.

Anyone that's played a few hours can tell you that you more or less know exactly where a person is hiding with those red dots on the screen. This feature honestly made no logical sense for the multiplayer aspect of the game. I certainly commend the developers for actually listening to their player base and accommodating them with another option.

If your into hard core camping out with the rifle of your choice, this is the mode for you. If your more into killing as many people as you can in a hurry, stick to the regular servers.

Getting Ranked
If your working towards high player rankings in this game, I advise you not to bother. Get your enjoyment from playing it without setting a goal to get ranked. Here's why...

Shortly after I acquired all of the multiplayer achievements, I decided to check my rank... and I ranked high! I don't remember at this point where I ranked but I was working deligently towards the #1 ranked player in the game until one fateful day I ran into an obvious hacker that could shoot me from accross the map as soon as I spawned.

I quickly realized (and you should too) that I would never achieve getting to the top of the rankings due to those players that cheat. This actually killed the online gameplay for me. I come back into it occassionally just to see if any updates have been made. This game is really best played in LAN party environments.

The Map Pack
You may have noticed the Map Pack on the Sniper:Ghost Warrior official store page. Is it worth it? Included in the map pack is a map named Towers, that is basicly a few mystic looking towers with spiraling staircases standing in ruins like a stone circle. Yes, I think it's worth it.

These screenshots were both taken in the Towers map about a minute apart. I've displayed them both here to show you not only the awesome detail in the structures and terrain, but also to show you how vast the map is. Take notice of the difference in detail when I'm in and out of scope on the tower in front of me.

Any other screenshots I've taken for this game and others can be found on my profile.

"Sniper: Ghost Warrior Map Pack further expands multiplayer experience with 5 new maps. Battle to control ruined oil-rigs or lie in wait to capture one of mystic stone towers. This Map Pack brings new sniping spots and chance to eliminate enemies from even longer distance. Sniper: Ghost Warrior Map Pack includes new maps for deathmatch, team deathmatch and VIP modes featuring a variety of new locations!"
Update: Multiplayer Servers are Dead!
I went to log in to Sniper:Ghost Warrior tonight for the first time in maybe a year, and found that I had to create a new login because I didn't have the option to log in to my old one. I figured ok, no big deal. I already achieved all the multiplayer achievements in this game, so at this point it was just to revisit the game and show off the graphics and gameplay to my wife.

After I loaded in, I did a quick match option and loaded in to a server... to find myself alone. I then did a search for active servers, and although most said they had 1 other person in game, they too were dormant of players. I didn't find a single actual player on any server.

This game is really this dead?

Did the sequals utterly kill this game?

Did the hackers finally put this game out of it's misery?

If you have a small crew of close friends to drag in with you to shoot each other and kill some beer cans at the same time, that's an option! Otherwise, regardless of what happened here, this game seems to be a wasted download. Unless, of coarse, you like loading into your own world and shooting at random objects.

Update: Dedicated Servers
So the multiplayer servers have been dead for at least three years for this game and I stumbled onto something in SteamWorks. This game has a Dedicated Server SDK!

Well, I'm kinda excited, but not too excited because even if I were to go through the trouble of setting something like this up, I likely don't have too many people in my social circle that would want to jump in and get shot at or knifed. Oh, and I already have all the multiplayer achievements for the game...

...but I'm here to update you! This might just be a way to unlock some multiplayer achievements. It is a total long shot (get it?), because the achievements were likely tracked on the official servers, but what if!?!

The Steamworks SDK should be your ticket to finding the Dedicated Server SDK on Steam. If you manage to get a multiplayer sever going with this, let me know!

Not likely. :USstar: The multiplayer achievements were on the live servers. I mentioned LAN because that is the only way we can play this multiplayer now.

Correct - Multiplayer is most likely permanently down. The game is listed as only a single-player game n the Store.

Just a heads up, I think they stopped maintaining the multiplayer servers on this game and focused on the servers for their sequel games ... please contact the developer for support.
