By Comrade Bear
This is How I Skin, Which is a tutorial for those of you who did not know! Im pretty bored so this is something i just suddenly just became interested in.

If your wanting to know how to skin the CSS Gloves? Look no further! I'll be showing you how I make my things, In a tutorial themed thingy, This is about how I use GIMP, And how I make my Skins, But for you! Ill be covering main things to look for and what they can be used for. Such as Free Select and Layers. I wont teach you everything about gimp but mostly the main tools I use for skinning!

I hope this helps you become a skinner too! as I suck at making tutorials and teaching people ♥♥♥♥.

(Warning!!! This is my little crappy tutorial! If this doesnt teach you anything? or just little things you wanted to know, but there was more things? please talk with me on steam as I can teach you just 1 or 2 things or multiply ♥♥♥♥ that you wanted to know but wasent in this tutorial.)

Well! Time to do some teach'in! Moving on! Some may know me as the creator of Spec ops CSS gloves, Old Attire, And newly released Custom Black Tactical Finglerless gloves(Trust me I wanted it shorter!) You also know me as xXCreepyGuyXx And you guys are here becuase you want to know how "I" make my stuff! My wonderful wonderful stuff!

Just to let you guys know is that this isnt the best way to make skins, although like I shall quote,
How "I" make my stuff!
So lets start off with me saying that, This is not the greatest way to create quility skins, infact this could be one of the mildly worst, the worst is probably MSPaint. but anyways... I use GIMP, If you use Photoshop or another program, Dont know what to say. So I will show you how (ofcourse) I make my stuff.
Getting to know your GIMP!
So! GIMP 2.8! GLOROUS!!! But really it is a wonderful program, Another up side, ITS FREE! So its like a free Photoshop.

So before anything, If you are new to GIMP. You need to know what you can use with GIMP, Its Limits, Up sides, and down sides.
The more you know the better, I'd suggest exploring what GIMP can do and what it offers to you as a noobie skinner.(that is if you are a noobie skinner?)

Here are some cool things that gimp offers

Fractal Explorer

Free Select Tool

This is a hugely recommended tool to use when drawing isnt precise enough to use!
This was the tool that I used for the first time to make my Custom Black Tactical Fingerless Gloves (I know long as hell!)

Patterns

Patterns are useful if your working on drawing in the textures from google images or something.

Not all cool things are listed becuz im lazy to put them, but there are also Distorts and Enhancing filters, also video effects which makes the picture looks like an 80's piece of ♥♥♥♥.
A simple idea!
Oh lovely! Ideas! So, This is the easiest step in making your own skin. For some not so much, probably becuase they ask them selve? What the ♥♥♥♥ am I gunna make? Well, Google has your side, Just google(Or bing if you side with Xbox One) any kind of glove. Tactical gloves most commonly. They will come up with gloves. Now? How do we get these gloves... into skin? Use patterns and textures from google or helpful websites that have good textures and what not. I cant link any becuz most of all that ive gotten was from google images. Sooo... Anyways. Now that you got your Idea and your tool! Your missing one wittle ding! Yup, The actaully glove map thing.

But personally, most of all my skins are actaully based on made up gloves, gloves I've never actaully seen. But I usaully try to follow the same design as the Default CSS gloves(I actaully only do that for the top part of the gloves. I dont add knuckles becuz i aint going to be tripping down on gmod anytime soon.)
Making of the gloves
So first of all, Your going to need this little bad boy. This is needed! Save image as and done![i.imgur.com]

For those who dont know how to get the map, click the link above, then you save the image as, End of story!!! Its litterly that easy!

After you have this little goodness. You'll need to open it up in your GIMP Like so!

Lets review some things we need to know before we can continue. Some things that are important before begining!

Layers

This is the layers bin or box, which ever you see it. This is a very helpful feature and I'd advise you to use it very wisely and well! An example of some layers is. Camos, Coloring, And Textures, but I mainly use layers for camos and the texture or skin im making, So i dont ruin the original map. So i may delete the desired textures or camos i have in the layer. Tip: If you plan on making camo on your skin, Use the layers so you may set the layer to Overlay. This will cover over the skin but not the textures. Just like my camo gloves below!

Patterns

Pretty much, textures and what that you can paint or fill, you actaully use the clone tool to paint the pattern and stuff.

Clone Tool

Using the Clone tool for patterns? Just click on Clone, then in the tool's options select pattern instead of image. Then you can choose the pattern you want to use! including size of the brush not the pattern, The pattern size can be changed by changing the actaul images file width and height. so there is not setting to change the size of the pattern, Make sure it is seamless patterns or it will have borders. and it will make it look horride.
Drawing? Or Free selecting?
Do whatever you feel fit! Here is an example of what I've created by Drawing the patterns using The Clone tool.

This is my Spec Ops Gloves. You can see that its very messy, but it got the job done. As for the Free selecting is for much more precise and clean but it can be rough. or blocky, if you round it out by taking the time and follow the points it wont look to blocky. here is an example of free select.

This is my... Nvm, the name is too damn long to type. xD

This part is most important. If you want a good reskin, take your time, find some good quility textures. The black cloth texture is the BF3 Spec ops black. Really good texture for making sleeves or winter gloves or something.

Use whatever you feel is the best for you. I know this Tutorial kinda sucks but this is my First guide!

I recommend using both! they make a great team!
Giving your skin a Camo!!!
Now, I wanted to add this so people can add there own camo to a skin they want or? there skin they've made!

So lets begin with a simple camo? uhh? lets go with this! This is German camo![i.imgur.com] (Thank you again SomerenV for the awesome camo!)

So we want this pimpin German camo? But we dont want this to happen to our skin?

Now we need to make it overlayed, but first we need to scale it or if you want you can just leave it like so, which ever works, but im going to show you how to scale it to the gloves map size. like so, just select the layer you want to resize, select the Scale Tool and click on the camo.

Alittle grid thing will appear on the camo, with arrows and a box that shows you the size of its height and width. So use the arrows to scale it bigger or smaller! you can move the camo around by clicking and holding the circle butten in the middle of the grid. When you are done scaling it click scale.

After scaling it to meet the size it should look like this! If it doesnt you did a horriable job!

Now its time to apply the overlay! At the top of the layers is a little arrow thing next to it says Normal, This is the layers mode. There are many modes but only one that we want. Overlay, Click on Normal and look down for Overlay. then click on overlay.

Once you click on overlay you should get this!

Now before you start freaking out about, "MY DUDES ARM AND FINGERS ARE CAMO'D!!!"
This is very easy to fix! All you need to do is use your free select tool and select the camo covered areas that you dont want covered in camo. Then press Delete. Once all fingers and arm is fixed the end result is this!

Completing your Production!
Now just save your project before you exit it, and save another copy as you may need it to revise any mistakes or well anything, Than just import into your VTF, Save file as v_hands.vtf, once this is done put the .vtf file in materials/models/weapons/v_models/hands, If there is already a skin in that folder make sure to have it merge with it. And your done!

Congrats!, You've just made it threw my Guide, I hope that this has given you the tools and knowalge of creating your very own skins for Gmod or even Counter Strike: Source! I know there may be some things I didnt cover, This was because this isnt a GIMP or VTF Tutorial, But I plan to hopefully improve this guide with new or better knowalge of GIMP and Skinning with GIMP. I really hope that this teaches you what you wanted to know about making your own glove skin or maybe putting a nice camo on a gun/glove skin. Like I have said already, I hope that this has help you on your path to making your own skin, Seriously take your time on this, Speeding threw making a skin is my job to do. Same with making sloppy work! Dont take that from me!!! Anyways, I hope you well with making skins to who ever the hell you are! Please leave a comment on how well this little guide was for you, also if you do release a skin on Workshop please link it to me so i may have a look at what a masterpiece you've made!

Thank you!
Sincerly xXCreepyGuyXx

Make sure to import your image into VTFEdit, then you can save it as a VTF.

Make sure your texture is in .VTF format. then you just need to put it in your hands folder. which should be located in materials/models/weapons/v_models/hands If these folders do not exsist create them..
