Description
Era - 1990s / 2000s - Boxing - Heavyweight

Sometimes it just takes one chance to capture a piece of greatness. Hasim Rahman may never have been close to all-time great status, but yet, he was able to defeat one of the best heavies to ever lace up a pair of gloves when the chance presented itself.

Rahman did not have much of an amateur career, having ascended from a rough Baltimore life before going into boxing. Once he did begin boxing professionally, his raw power and killer instinct allowed the Rock to pick up a streak of impressive victories, defeating the likes of Ross Puritty and Trevor Berbick before falling to the knockout expert, David Tua. He also took a loss to Oleg Masakev and earned a win over Corrie Sanders before the biggest fight of his career.

In 2001, Rahman was named as a contender for Lennox Lewis's undisputed Heavyweight championship, a fight in which he was a twenty to one underdog. However, this was not enough to deter Rahman, and against a seemingly-lacksidasical Lewis, was able to pull him into a slugfest, and dropped the champion in the fifth round to knock him out.

Lewis would invoke a rematch clause and easily defeated Rahman later in the same year, and would also fight an impressive list of opponents including Evander Holyfield, James Toney, John Ruiz and Wladimir Klitchko.
