Creating a New Custom Car

It's easy to make new custom cars in Bloody Rally Show. Just go to Editors -> Car Editor, and after clicking New Car, choose a model you want to base your car on.

Afterwards click on New Car button.

Then you will have to select a car you want to base your new car on.

Give it a nice name

And you have your new car ready to be tuned!

Adjusting Car Parameters

Adjusting car parameters is pretty straightforward. Just drag the sliders and hit Test Drive button to try your car on track.

One important thing to be aware of, after changing car parameters you must determine max speed and then set it for your car. To do this, go straight flat out until your car doesn't go any faster. Notice the speed in bottom-left corner of the screen (in kilometers per hour). You don't have to be on road for this, in Car Editor going off track won't slow you down.

Important, be sure you have reached the highest gear on your gearbox. In some cases car may not go above 4th gear, i.e. if it's too heavy and engine is too weak.

Then hit End Test Drive, go to Parameters and update Max Speed (KMH) slider to the value you had. In our case it's 240 KM/h.

Don't forget to save the car afterwards, there will be an asterisk (*) next to Save Car button text if there are any unsaved changes.

Working with Car Sprites
When you create your custom car, it will be based on an existing car you have chosen. After clicking Edit Sprites, a folder with car layers should get opened.

You will need an image editing program that supports PNG files with transparency. If you don't have Photoshop, here is an open source, free alternative: GIMP[www.gimp.org]

Here are some tips how to get the best results when editing your custom car sprites:

  • Do not delete any of the generated sprites. They are all required for mod item to work. Deleting a sprite will end up in broken unloadable mod. If you won't use any of the sprites, just make them fully transparent instead of deleting.
  • Do not edit the item.car manually, unless you want to set values beyond ranges that Car Editor allows. If so, rename the file to have a zip extension, extract it, then zip it back after modifying.
  • Keep PaintMask and WindowMask sprites pure white.
  • Keep Body white, paint jobs are not part of the car itself.
  • In Preview.png car should be white and include interior without the driver. Do not add any text or background images, because Preview.png is also used to generate car shadow, so it has to have the exact car shape.
  • You have to optionally add windows and reflections to Preview.png for it to look good in previews
  • Paint Mask should cover all car parts that will be covered by paint job.
  • Paint job, blood, dirt and car damage will automatically appear instead of white parts of Paint Mask.
  • White parts of Window Mask should not overlap with white parts of Paint Mask.
  • Window Mask should cover all glass parts.
  • Window reflections will be generated automatically instead of white parts of WindowMask sprite.
  • To get best looking car windows, keep them drawn in Interior sprites, do not put them in Base sprite as transparent parts, otherwise they will look dense.
  • The order of sprite layers in game is as follows (top to bottom):
    • Lines
    • Window Mask (Window reflections)
    • Paint Mask (Paint job)
    • Base
    • Interior
    • Wheels

Warning for GIMP users. Please use "File" > "Export As..." to export PNG files for the final result. Using "File" > "Save As..." Includes an embedded thumbnail preview image that looks stretched on Steam Workshop.
Adjusting Part Positions
It's pretty trivial to use Part Positions menu. Drag the sliders to move parts horizontally or vertically.

It is important to set Collider width and height correctly, to cover the car body, otherwise collision detection will not work properly.

Sharing Your Car on Steam Workshop

IMPORTANT: Please don't share the car if you haven't modified sprites in any significant way. Cars that are very similar to built-in ones will be removed from workshop without prior notice. Sorry for inconvenience.

After you have finished working on your new masterpiece, sharing it is as easy as clicking Upload button in Car Editor.

Couple of important things to not miss:
  • Set the correct Max Speed (KMH) in Parameters section.
  • If you have edited sprites, don't forget to update the Preview sprite.

After uploading, please wait at least 15 minutes for car to show up on Steam. Sometimes it takes even longer.
Additional Resources
In addition to sprites provided by clicking "Edit Sprites", here are some sprites you could use to build car interiors:

Bridges are not there, at least yet. There is this video where I build a track, it could be useful to watch: https://youtu.be/crwcMv4eF1A

is there any chance to get a guide to the track editor as well ?
I wonder , if it can do like bridges ?

greetz from Germany, keep save ;-)

Thanks! Yes, looks like you figured it out! Car editor applies random paint jobs so you can preview them. Players and AI will want to customize their cars, so your car design should ideally support those decal layers.

Ok, i think i got it now.

A paintjob is a sprite ( *.png file).

There can be 2 Layers of those i( i would call it decals) at once,
over the paint mask, which gives the car the color.

The terms were a bit confusing for me.

The other thing was, the car editor placing randomly decals on the vehicle.

Very nice game though. (very similar to Supercars on the Amiga those days :-) )

thx for ur response :-)

Hey Le Chuck. Could you upload and link an example, so I can open up the sprites and figure this out? Also what too are you using to create the sprites? Could it be GIMP by chance?

First of all, thank you for this guide.

There is still one thing i can´t find out:
There are some overlays over the paint, i can´t get rid of.
They don´t show up in the sprite folder.

Ty in advance :-)

Hm, I see how this can be the problem. Though in the game when you click "Edit Sprites" through Car Editor, it will open an explorer window with sprite files for you, so you can just then open those sprites by right clicking or dragging them to your editing software. Not super convenient maybe, but should work.

Another way - to enable display of protected files and folders in Explorer settings.

Hey man good guide. I figured I would mention a problem I had while trying to make myself some car skins.

The folder that steam saved these editable files on in my pc was Users/myname/AppData/LocalLow/Kodo Linija/Bloody Rally Show/Data/Cars

and everything from the root /AppData onwards was hidden to my image editing software.

I had to go into the file tree in windows explorer and go into properties and click off hidden to be able to even find the files to edit.

I am sure problems like this only happen to me, but if they don't I hope you read this :winter2019joyfultearsgingerbread:
