Using a staff, you will do elemental damage unless you gem physical damage into it. Then there is a significant amount of non-elemental damage present.
The same is true about wand main hands.
Quite important to remember that it's not worth adding physical damage gems, since it won't increase the damage output properly due to not being affected by Focus for Arc Beam.
Not even physical DoT gems that are normally affected by focus would work well, because Arc Beam for some reason doesn't apply weapon effects besides armor shredding.
That said, since it doesn't convey weapon effects other than armor shredding, I don't know what I would use for a main hand if I was ever so desperate to use Arc Beam.
Likely just dual wielding wands, because why not at that point!
Only way to deal pure elemental damage with Arc Beam is to use a weapon that deals pure elemental damage by default, enchanted and gemmed for elemental damage.
Depends on. I would say if you want an easy time - and Prismatic Embermage is all about ease of use -, level Thunder Locus, Hail Storm and Frozen Fate as fast as you can, these skills will carry you through all the things you don't want to directly confront.
