Fix the problem with the guns not firing
Whilst fixing the Spitfire I was given a timed fix to patch bullet holes, refuel, rearm and 'fix the problem with the guns not firing.

During the timed work I failed to fix the problem with the guns. The next mission I still had the gun issue and I tried everything including a full strip down and rebuild of the weapons system, cleaning the barrels of the guns and still the problem didn't go away. I figured a full strip down of the entire aircraft was needed to see what I was missing.

How to fix the problem.

To fix the problem with the guns not firing (and this is easier than you think) simply remove the top engine cowling and look at the rear right of the engine block. You will need to click on the starboard cylinder block (assembly) and then remove the air compressor. Then either fix or repair the compressor and reinstall. Once the compressor has been screwed back into place you'll get the completed task message for the problem.

Having to fix the air compressor isn't so far fetched. The Spitfire (and a lot of British aircraft) used pneumatic systems and actuators for various things, one of them being the trigger mechanism for both the 20mm cannons and the .303 machine guns. Though realistically, if the air compressor went bad, the machine guns aren't the only things affected. The pneumatic system also operated the supercharger gear shift, flaps, gun camera, and wheel brakes.

Tried that. Removed the air compressor and tried to clean it and even replace it but nothing worked. I even did a full strip down and rebuild and could fix the problem. Might be a bug in this instance.

I'm no plane mechanic IRL, but... Wow. Love the game.

I love old airplanes, so I thought it was awesome that they put that in there. But...I already knew that they're air actuated...they don't do a good job helping people that don't already have a decent mechanical knowledge of an old plane. There needs to be a basic run-through on each type of plane.

Really sweet that the programmers put in a systems guide so you know WHERE to look for the fix, I mean, EVERYONE knows that guns work with AIR! Correct? I had done pretty well until this sneaky task showed up.
Thanks for saving the hair I have left over after YANKING out most of it.
