Invincibility For The Challenged
By mariadb_bin
I have seen some people asking how to cheat in this game due to difficulty or a lack of ammo. This guide shows how to achieve invulnerability in Cry Of Fear

Making Simon Invincible
While Simon may be pretty tough after a dose of morphine, some of the less avid gamers out there have difficulty in completing the game. So, after 10 minutes of work, I have found the gate to immortality in the Steam release of CoF.

GETTING STARTED
As many of you have noticed, the cheats normally accessible to goldsource games have been removed. That is why we will not be using the command console. This means that you will have to exit the game if you want to disable invulnerability. First off, you will need to go to your CoF directory. For most users, this will be "C:\Program Files\Steam\SteamApps\common\CryofFear". For 64 bit users this will be "C:\Program Files(x86)\Steam\SteamApps\common\CryofFear". After you access the CoF directory, you will enter the "C:\Program Files\Steam\SteamApps\common\CryofFear\cryoffear" folder. In there, you will find skill.cfg. Open skill.cfg with notepad.

EDITING
First, be sure to backup your skill.cfg. Not only incase you mess up, but because it makes it easier to disable invulnerability by switching out the original skill.cfg with the new one.

After opening skill.cfg, you will find many lines of text. We are looking for specific ones for damage dealt by enemies. Examples are:

sk_krypande_dmg_one_slash1 "0"
sk_krypande_dmg_one_slash2 "0"
sk_krypande_dmg_one_slash3 "0"
sk_krypande_dmg_one_slash4 "0"

While you search for this in your skill.cfg, you will notice that there will be different values for these lines. This is because you need to change the values you have to zero. If you look carefully, you will notice you can also change the max health of those specific enemies if you would like to do so. Be sure you ONLY change the values for the monsters. Individual monsters are clearly marked in sections. After you have nullified the damage output of monsters, save the file, and close it. IMPORTANT: after closing the file, right click the file and hit properties. Then, check off read-only and hit apply. If this is not done, the game may overwrite the file when you start it up.
Finally
If you did this right, you will be able to complete Cry of Fear with only fall damage as your enemy. So, without further ado, have fun, and enjoy the game.

Is the file marked as read only? open the file again and see if your changes saved. I just came upon this guide by chance but that might work out?

weird, I booted up the game and I'm still taking damage. I haven't switched anything out yet, I just wanted to mess around again. Is it because I changed the damage of the glock to 100?

Yeah just replace it with a backup of the original or delete it and verify the game cache.
