ladder gives rewards, the events give rewards, the daily login gives rewards, the battle pass gives rewards, dailies give rewards, practice gives rewards, main story gives rewards, there's tons of stuff for players to do to get free packs.
also beginning the game is so easy that i used to make smurf accounts to test out meta decks because simply creating an account gives you 50+ free packs that you can liquify to make any meta rotation deck you want.
2) I agree with you here. Having to win matches to grab daily quest rewards is a chore but you can always choose to replace the really tedious ones and focus on doing the quests you enjoy. No one said you have to do all the quests every day.
3) Pack luck varies from person to person. Sometimes they get 8 rainbows in 10 packs and sometimes they get no rainbows in 30 packs. It's all variance.
4) I don't know what kind of communities you're hanging out in but most likely reddit and the r/shadowverse discord which has a lower collective IQ than the number of fingers on my hand. Try looking for an actual community where the populace has more than a few braincells and you might get the conversations you're looking for.
5) Those "paying players" were buying crystals illegally from a 3rd party source who was committing credit card fraud.
Riot Games, no pay to win. :)
Really wish they'd join Steam and then they'd just obliterate everything else.
Not Magic The Gathering, that's for sure.
Though MTGO has a lot more casual formats, like commander you can join in the lobby.
But still costs money to have a half decent deck.
Half of the deck is your cards, the other half is on how you use them.
