Arma Commander Mission Setup Tutorial
By FlaK
NOTE: Arma Commander has been updated and some parts of this tutorial may not work or make sense anymore. I do not have plans to update this as I am not nearly as familiar with the mod as I used to be.
I am NOT the creator of this mod, I merely made this to make creating your own missions with the mod easier.

Tutorial on how to create your own Arma Commander missions using the eden editor. Arma Commander is a mod for Arma 3 on the steam workshop for those who're unaware. This was ported over from my tutorial on the discord server: https://discord.gg/GfhSAbj6wn

Initial Setup
1. Start up the arma 3 Eden editor in the main menu with whatever map you wish to use
2. Once in the editor click scenario and save the mission as whatever you want.
3. Then click scenario again, click open scenario mission folder and put in the description.ext file that is linked above into the folder
4. Save again and now your going to click on the systems tab in the upper right in the editor
5. At the top should be a section called arma commander. Click that and then select the module “Arma Commander Game Mode” and place it anywhere on the map
6. Then double click the module on the map and it should bring up another window for you to choose your own settings for the game.
7. Now, go back to systems and the AC section and click the module “Battalion” and place 2 of them anywhere on the map.
8. Double click one and set the setting for one of the two sides
9. Repeat step 8 for the other module, but for the other side
10. Then, find what unit you want as the commander, so the unit you will play as.
11. Place the unit anywhere on the map
12. Double click the unit and make sure “Player” is selected.
13. You can place down other units of the same side and set them to “Playable” in their settings so you can do Coop. The player unit will have a red circle round the icon and the playable units will have a pinkish circle around their icon
14. Repeat steps 11-13, but use the opposing side’s units, they will be the enemy commander(s)
Custom Battalions
1. If you’re creating custom battalions, make sure you choose the right settings in the “Battalion” module
2. Now, go back to systems, AC section and place down 2 “Create Custom Battalion” modules
3. Double click one and input the settings for one of your sides
4. Repeat step 3 for the other module, but for the other side
5. Let’s start with the blufor side. Pick any unit and any amount and place them near the blufor “Create Custom Battalion” module.
6. Select all of those units, right click on them, and at the top you will select the sync to option and then blue lines should appear from your cursor and the units
7. You will then click on the respective “Create Custom Battalion” module and thin blue lines should be connecting the units to their module
8. Repeat steps 3-7 but do the other module and use the other sides units obviously.
Note: All these units you sync will end up being the units that end up in their respective bases.
Bases
1. Next, you will go back to systems, AC section, and select the “Base” module. Place the module down wherever you want your starting base to be, or whatever Base the commanders will be at
2. Double click the “Base” module and choose the settings you desire (I will go over custom defense positions in another tutorial)
3. Move the commanders for that side over to that base, that’s where you’ll spawn in game
4. Now repeat steps 1-3, but do it for the opposite side and move that side’s commander(s) over to the Base
5. Now, you can place “Base” modules anywhere around the map and select the settings for them. These will end up being the bases you fight for in game. Unless you want just one base for each side...
Custom Groups
1. The next big step is creating groups to call in. Let’s start with the blufor side
2. Go to systems, AC section, and select the “Register Battalion Group” module and place it down anywhere on the map
3. Now, place down any blufor units near the module
4. Group all those units together and then, right click the group leader and sync him to the “Register Battalion Group” module.
5. Double click that module and put in the setting you want. Remember, the name of each group can’t be the same as any other group you have!
6. Now, repeat steps 2-5, but this time do the opposing side’s units and settings in another “Register Battalion Group” module
7. You can now repeat steps 2-6 to add more groups for that battalion to call in such as a special forces team, AT team or recon team for example.
Custom Vehicle Groups
1. You will now learn how to create a vehicle group that you can call in like any other custom group
2. Place down a “Registered Battalion Group” module
3. Now, place down an empty vehicle. You can do a helicopter, but you will have to manually use it when you spawn it in-game.
4. Now place down however many crewman you want for that vehicle and make sure they are grouped together
5. Right click the group leader and sync him with the “Register Battalion Group” module.
6. Now, put the group inside of the vehicle.
7. Double click the module and put in the desired settings. Make sure you select motorized in the module settings as well
8. To have motorized infantry, just repeat steps 2-3 and 5-7, but with the appropriate units you want. So put the squad leader in the driver seat, leave the others outside and you have motorized infantry.
Custom Defense Positions
When you have finished setting up the "Base" modules and want to set troops in custom positions at any base this is how you'll do it.
1. First, you can only set the positions for half of the garrison. Here's what I mean. If the garrison for that base is set to 10, you can only have 5 custom positions. Or say the garrison is set to 20 you can only have 10 custom positions. This is because the other half is supposed to act as a reaction force or somthin Frank said...
2. Now, this will apply for any base, but lets assume the base you're setting up has a garrison of 30. If you want to place as many custom positions as possible that's fine or maybe you only want to do a few. Let's assume you want to do all of them so place down 15 units since 15 is half of 30. The unit side or type has no effect so use whatever units you wish.
3. Group those units together into a squad by selecting all of them and holding CTRL and dragging your cursor over to whoever you want the group lead to be.
4. Right click on the group leader and at the top your going to select the sync option and then click on the "Base" module
5. There should be a thin blue line between the "Base" module and the group leader
6. Now all you have to do is move the units in the group anywhere inside or outside the base and that's where defender(s) will be when the base is occupied
Custom Battalion/Group Icons and Flags
Custom Battalion Icons and Flags

1. When you are in the eden editor click the tools button at the top and then click config view
2. Double click the config file if not already opened
3. Scroll down to “cfgfactionclasses” or something like that and double click it
4. Then just scroll through the list and find the faction your looking for and click on it
5. There will be a flag = and icon = thing. You will click it and copy it
6. Go to that factions module and paste it into the correct field. Do the same thing for either the icon or flag.
7. Use that same process for the other faction
NOTE: For mods, there may just be an icon and no flag. That’s ok, just put the icon into the flag field as well and it will show up fine.

Custom Group Icons

1. When in the editor go through steps 1-2 above
2. Now scroll down to “cfggroupicons” or something with group icons.
3. Double click it and find the one you want
4. Click on the one you want and then click on the icon = or something like that (I’ll clarify later) and copy it
5. Go to the group module you want to place it in and paste it in the correct field

IMPORTANT FOR BOTH SECTIONS ABOVE: When you paste the text into the field, it will have crap like
icon = “/stuffstuffstuffetc/.paa;” You need to delete the quotations and icon = crap at the beginning and end so it looks more like /stuffstuffstuffetc/.paa
Artillery Module
1. Once in the eden editor go to systems, AC tab, and select the artillery module
2. Place the module anywhere on the map and double click the module
3. Input the correct settings. Note: when you scroll over the setting it may give you a short description of what it means
4. The setting named “Ammunition Fired” is where you’ll need something specific which I’ll explain
5. At the top of eden editor select tools
6. Then, click on config view
7. Double click the config file if it’s not already open
8. Scroll down to where you’ll find something called CfgAmmo
9. Double click the section and a bunch of different ammo should have appear like UNS_mortar_82mm etc. (there’s hundreds)
10. Find the ammo type you want, for example if your doing a regular mortar find ammo that’s 82mm shells.
11. Click it once and copy it via CTRL+C
12. Now close all that and go back to the artillery module and double click the module
13. Paste the text into the “Ammunition fired” parameter.
14. That’s it, and hover your mouse over the section names to get a short description as well.

Is there anyway to switch from map view to camera view and control units while in camera view? Like Zeus or RTS like company of heroes?

I personally dont know of a way to delay units, someone else may

Is there way to delay a custom battalion? Like if I wanted a powerful unit to have a 20 min delay before it can be used?

i aint ever heard of a base position module. Wherever you place the "base" module is where the bases position will be.

I don't get what the "base position" module does. i've read the tutorials, watched the few tutorial vids available. I don't see it mentioned. I'm assuming I'm missing something. A description of its use would be nice

i did not create the mod and i am not sure if that will be a thing either, the development of this mod has switched from the main dev a long time ago and slowed down quite a bit.
