One question, why sonar, radar and DC on the CL? It increases the price a lot, are subs such a danger for the strike force? Can't you put in 1 or 2 anti-sub CL in the strike force and scrap the sonar, radar and DC on the rest?
Some odd problems I had were my carriers getting sunk in a sea zone I didn't even have them assigned. I guess the Philippine task forces were returning to an American port since I thought they would just repair in the Philippines. I was actually doing rather well until then. There were also some task forces that were just holding in a sea zone for some reason.
Looking over your guide again I see I made mistakes, such as my patrols having too many CLs, which explains why I never seemed to have enough.
Radar was good, mines were banned, air cover was decent, admirals were chosen for skills and traits, and I wasn't paying too close attention to fleet coordination but they were small.
Hopefully next time I'll have a clue lol. This was my first try at it.
Best advice I can give you is, next time you fight your friend, fill the remaining slots on your BBs with AA, and cover the naval area where your fleet is operating with heavy fighters, with a radar if possible.
I use my CVs as XP farmers. They just use too much fuel for anything else. When I have a lot of fuel, I "convert" the fuel into XP. When I am low on fuel, I stop training.
You mention you play Japan. Just out of curiosity, what do you do with the starting carriers? Just not use them at all? Or use them as floating airbases with starter-DD screening until they're killed off (which, in this overall concept, is no big deal)? Load them with CAS-only to support naval invasions?
The question isn't "Is it better to research or not ?". It's obviously better to research everything than nothing.
The question is how to reach a balanced, effective navy, knowing that you also have to research industry, infantry, tanks, planes, doctrines. And for that, you don't need to upgrade your submarines. Minelaying submarines don't go obsolete. And the biggest counter to raiding submarines is escort missions. At this point, send CLs to sink the DDs.
With 1.6.2 around the corner (releasing at the end of the week according to rumors), I am just going to wait for it to update the guide.
